Hunters
This clan needs more hunters! I started one but, dont play much, anyway, if anyone wants to put an alt in the clan, a hunter would be a good choice. ;)

Re: Hunters
My brother is a hunter but ha yet to join the clan. He has been thinking of retiring though as he wishes to re-train fully in bow so when that happens I will have him invited into the clan.

Re: Hunters
I've a distant cousin (she's one of those lanky norsewomen) who well knows the way of the bow. Though she is not a part of this clan, she has assured me that her arrows will always be available in the service of my clan. Plus, methinks she fancies Ozzie.

So, if yer ever in the need of some flyin' sticks, give me a yell...and if I am passed out from all the ale, look for Heline. She's always happy to shoot someone/thing. Though I must warn you, she's a bit...well, she was raised by the wolves.

Re: Hunters
Oh Ozzie, don't tell her that! You know how the Norse are with their egos. it'll go straight to her head. But please promise me this, take the poor girl out to dinner, she's too skinny, looks like she's never had a bite to eat. And those scrawny arms...don't know how she manages to hold the bow!

On a side note, I've also got me other cousins, who'd be happy to come to the service of me guild: Mijanne is a follower of Eir, and though her healing powers are a bit young still, she's growing quite nicely, the there is Kristianja, one of Odin's chosen. She's mighty fierce with her bolts and always happy to give anyone a fend. So, please look any of them up. If you tell them that Finley sent you, they'll gladly give you what ale they've got in their packs. I like to keep me family happy so they are always in good supply of me dwarven special brew.

Re: Hunters
I'm getting increasingly more frustrated with my hunter. No matter what I try to hunt, she dies. Yellows, she's dead on sight. Blues, a few arrows and swings of the spear and she's dead. She can successfully hunt greens, blech! Anyone wanna let me in on the secret of life for hunters? She's under 10 still.

My brother says it always help to get a friend, aka beastcraft. He is in his 7th season now and says the black mauler juveniles are good. He can hunt some yellow eyes that way, but not many. He usually have to stick to blue eyes.

Re: Hunters
Hilgi,

My cousin has great success as a hunter, and she'd be happy to chat with you about it anytime. Look for Heline anytime if I am not around.

As far as her specs, she only has her BC up to 9 so that she got speed of prey (which she seems to use a LOT). Her bow is at level and +10 with bonuses...She can't say enough about keeping the bow at your level!!! If you don't have it that high, raise it as soon as possible, that will allow you to get the possible over 100% damage hits. The rest is all spear and stealth.

Also, she is a big proponent of spending the necessary coin to go for the fancy arrows. I know the footed flight broadheads are expensive, but it is SOOOOOOOOOOO worth every single copper for it! So, if you can afford it, go for the best arrows. Also, the bodkins are most effective against chain, scale and plate..so in RvR and against the wolves, they work the best.

That's all I can remember of what she told me...but again, dont hesitate to give her a yell if you see her around. SHe's a bit gruff, but she'll be happy to help you out...especially since you have kept her alive so many times!

Hmmm
Hunters..
I had this thought the other night, and it's still sticking in my head.
Everyone knows Hunters got nerfed with the See Hidden ability (plus other nerfs, but not trying to start a big discussion. That's for vnboards.)
Also, beserkers got nerfed with Left Axe stuff. Atleast, they're all crying about it on vnboards.
Well, beserkers do mad damage, and only wear studded (1 below the highest armor for Midgard realm - which makes them light tanks.)
What about a hard-core spear specced hunter? Forget stealth and bow, but go Beserk-style (light tank with studded), and carry a sharp spear. Spear seems to do massive amounts of damage, and it might be a good use for a hunter.
Does anyone know of any hunters who play as a light tank instead of as an archer?

Re: Hmmm
I know someone who is specced almost entirely in spear and beastcraft. He's great in a group (as long as he is not the puller) but he has issues doing solo. His spear is at level and BC is at 3/4 with stealth and bow closely behind.

Hope that helps.

Re: Hmmm
Finley,
Bow is 1 short of lvl, BC 2 short, spear only at 2, and stealth at 4. Bow was at lvl with BC farther behind, but that combo was proving disastrous as well. So skipped a bow to catch BC up. Doesnt seem to have helped any. :(

She uses mostly the long distance, heavy hitting, bodkin arrows. All equip is yellow. I'm at a loss here on how to help her.

Re: Hmmm
Well, I am not crazy about the light tank hunter idea. I think that they should be useing bow stealth and swords, give the powerful spear to the all tank classes. Since ythey are the only archers we have I think they should probly stay that way for RvR. Thats jus my idea. If you want to play A hunter play a hunter, If you want to play a tank do that. I really think that pure tanks should have spear, but ohhh, wait I forgot, only alb and hib have advantages, silly me. But since tanks DONT have spear I see where your going, its just not for me ;)

Re: Hmmm
What I've seen of Hunters is that they do not usually solo. I know you are still under 10 seasons (or were), but I am particularly fond of a Kobold Hunter who has proved her worth to me time and time again. Should it be the two of us and I fall in battle, she is more than usually dead. I know ants around Mularn make decent pets, but again, personally, I would goto Frt Atla and look for a Partner for Tomte, Imps, or other random "stuff"

From what I have seen, Hunter is AMAZING to have in a group. As long as they are not drawing agro (with me around, they need have no fear :) )

Just a thought, hadn't seen it posted

Re: Hmmm
I agree with Ovo from Heline's experience. Heline was created to be a force for RvR. Not specifically for PvE. Because of this, her BC is much lower than those who hunt solo often. She is rarely hunting alone (luckily, she has Ozzie around to keep her safe), but when she does, she can easily solo yellows, and even has fits of insanity where she will go for oranges.

Now, admittedly, she couldn't easily solo until she was into her late 20s..until that point, it was just blues that she could handle on her own. As you gain in seasons, it becomes easier to solo the monsters. I think that one of the main reasons is the bows that you are using. For example, Heline got a fancy new bow at 36 (was red to her, but she couldn't wait to try it out). Her first day to use it, she three-shot killed an orange.

Heline's armor is kept at orange con always. And she currently has nothing without bonuses. I can't remember if there are any items that add bonuses to bow as you are growing in seasons, but I will look to see. If you can get your hands on some of those...they will well be worth your while. Also, are you using a standard bow or a great composite bow? The great composite, while a bit slower, has a much greater range enabling you to get in at least 2 maybe 3 extra shots.

My best advice for hunters who are still quite young is to decide if you want the character to be for RvR specifically or geared more toward PvE. If you do want to focus on PvE, keep your spear and BC very high as well as your bow. If you want the character for RvR, only go up to the bare minimum for BC, as that is not as helpful in RvR as your bow and stealth (yes, even with the new assassin realm abilities stealth is still important). But, I still stress that your bow needs to be at your level. If it is not, you won't even have the possibility to get over 100% damage shots.

My closest hunter friend has problems hunting solo because he pumped his stealth up too high and neglected his spear. He's great in RvR as a sniper, but if someone tries to melee with him, it's all over. So when they introduce the respeccing, he is planning to adjust the stealth down in favor of the spear.

I agree with Ovo. While you are still growing, find a great group...the learning will come faster that way, anyhow. Hunters are great in a group! And, once you get the hang of how your character works out best, I think you will enjoy playing one.

My final hunter thought for this morning is this...don't believe the folks who say that hunters are not good in the dungeons. They are great!!! If Heline is going to solo, she does it in the dungeons. Lately she's been hitting the front rooms of Spind or the lower levels of Varulv. The monsters rarely make it up to touch her. The dungeons give archers an interesting advantage with the angles and inclines making a range attack very deadly.

Hope all that made sense.

If not, or if you have any other questions, give me a holler!

Re: Hmmm
Yeah, that made a lot of sense and was something I never thought about before. I have one thing to add to it, I think a good way to judge what type you want to be (RvR or PvE) is how much you play the hunter. I prolly wont play mine much past lvl 10 where he will end up being deleted for another class :p If I do start playing him some more, I'll make him tword PvE because I wont be in RvR with him much anyway. If I do play him in RvR I can use the spear skill to meele in a large group or send some arrows flying when in the group. This is because I have a one track mind that wont let me work too hard on my hunter until Jorola is 50 :p

But some people, most people, dont mind haveing a main character that is so close in lvl to thier alt that they could group, here I would most likely do RvR because at higher lvls thats what I like to do. I wouldn't be focusing on lvls here like on the other point of view because there I want to see what the class is like here I can take my sweet time lvling and have fun in RvR when I get higher.

Just a thought, good idea Finley! :)

Glad t'be of service to ya Jarola! Me cousin is a good huntress, I think. She's not the highest in levels, nor is she the highest in realm points. But, she does what she was bred to do, and she does it effectively. She'd be glad t'help you anytime you've a question. Pick her brain, friend. She needs the mental exercise!
