I just can't play an evil character
I want to try out the assassin class, which requires evil alignment; but when a woman runs up to you and says kobolds have my baby in there, please help. What are you going to do, say I've got other stuff to do?
Seriously, if I choose evil, I want to roleplay it; but it seems that you miss out on a lot of experience points and possible items.
I have the same problem. I want to be evil but when it comes down to the choices I end up giving in for the love of loot.

Re: ahh, SoU
Hehe, I have the same problem. Being unlawful is no problem (pick pocketing, shoplifting, breaking and entering, etc) but being downright evil is tough.
Of course, it's tough to be evil when the conversation choices are like:
1. I would gladly rescue your baby my lady! To the rescue!
2. I'll rescue your baby. I'm assuming there will be a reward...
3. I WILL DEVOUR YOUR BABY AND SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!!!!!
So that's a little ridiculous, but it seems the evil option is always just too ridiculous for me to even consider. There is rarely a 'calculated' or 'sophisticated' evil choice, usually only a big '@#$% off' or 'Not only will I not help you, I will kill you too!' option.

Yeah, I don't even bother playing evil in the single player game. There's no median between I'll help you for my own greedy purpose and I'll kill you and everyone in the village for asking that question. I usually play chaotic nuetral characters so I still have the option to be a little nasty without being a homicidal manic.

Re: ahh, SoU
The problem I have is that you either are goody-two-shoes, neutral-ho-hum save the trees, or a maniacle, heartless, genocidal freak. I don't think that one should even try to roleplay in NWN because the choices are so limited.
Re: ahh, SoU
Exactly, although I imagine a well DMed module would be a ton of fun. I've yet to try one unfortunately, although I was thinking about trying to sign up for one at nwnconnections.com. It would be nice to play with some real people and get rid of the henchmen for a while.
Re: ahh, SoU
The problem is the game is just too fast paced for DMing. You can close 100 feet in 3 seconds or less. It's so hard for a DM to react. Maybe playing with headsets like a Roger Wilco setup would help, but that's not an option.
Re: ahh, SoU
I've read that a lot of DMed games outlaw haste items and make everyone walk except when it's appropriate (running away from monsters, etc).
I don't know, I imagine it would be rather difficult for all but the best prepared DMs to handle situations as they arise.
Re: ahh, SoU
Yeah, in the high level module I was designing I got rid of permanent haste items and replaced them with 1/day haste casts or added a -4 AC penalty to offset both the speed and AC bonus. It's much better and simulates the actual PnP items which cause exhaustion after use. A permanent haste item should do something like age the character prematurely.
