I killed a monk!
This fine morning, while I was auctioning my wares in East Commons (as a Troll, I am less-then-welcome in Faymart), and there was a Monk of the 38th circle, who was most boastful of his battle prowess, daring all to a duel. I quietly buffed myself and conjured a pet, which I parked by 2nd torch. I then sat quietly and innocently at the tunnel entrance, where this monk regaled all with stories of his excellence. He eyed me warily, and then challenged me to a duel! I humby accepted, and WHACKITEDY-WHACK! went the axe, with a lovely 160/130pt double. I whipped out the 'ol reaver, and went to work. He had a cane of the tranquil, or some such staff that was proccing a 93pt DD. I merely grinned at him, and sucked some of my life back out of him... slowly backing up the whole time. Before he knew it, the cackle of my pet as it leapt into action, which was buffed, and was actually hitting him for 15 or so. When he turned around to foolishly deal with the pet, it gave me the opening I needed... I let loose with the darkness of my heart, and he fled in terror and fear from me as if he had beheld Innoruuk himself. I ceased my attack, to better use my magical skills to cast my hatred upon him, weakening him and strengthening my own attacks. Finally, his fear broke, and he charged back at me. However, the break from combat allowed me to switch back to my axe, and prepare for it. WHACKEDTY-WHACK! went my axe, for a 99/130. At this point, he knew he was bested, and groveled for me to spare his life. I though of killing the Ooman, but reasoned it was better to spare him. Not out of mercy, mind you: what does a shadowknight know of that emotion? But so that it would be living example of all who would trifle with Innoruuk. The Ooman was broken, and would serve my purposes better dead then alive. Let the once proud one live with his defeat.
That proc of 93dd is from a Wu's Trance Stick -- the item Kap really wants from the City of Mist. He musta been pretty twinked. You'd be interested in this thread on the monk boards basically saying that SK's are the best duelers out there. Re: I killed a monk!
I did duel Saibok once... I SO 0wnz0red him. Bi4tCh.
Only because I got in the first shot, followed up immediately by (2) successful fears. My opinion is is that if I get in the first shot, and he does not resist my spells, I would (and did) easily defeat Bok.
I am also of the opinion that if he got in the first shot, and resisted my spells, he would easily defeat me. I have a lot more HP, he has a lot more mana to play with. It depends on who gets in that first lucky shot, so far as Bok and I go, I think.
So far, the only ones who have thus far been able to withstand me are the druids of Tunare and Karana. I honestly cannot come up with tactics to defeat them. Their spell range is further then mine. The one of Karana can actually snare me, and then DD me while remaining both out of sword and lifetap range. My colleague, Xabkorle, I was only able to defeat the lizardman because of the difference in levels between us: were we the same level, I think he would probably win, by the stats, Iksar make the best SKs. That was a very enjoyable battle.
As for myself, if I got some pumice I might duel. I'd be fucked if any snare landed. I could probably take a HT ok from a pre-50 SK (without discipline). As for the pet, I dont know how well I can just feign him off but I hear that is a tactic. And there is something to be said for not allowing people to cast a pet then med back up after buffing up. You want a pet, cast it mid battle : ), It's only fair right?
Seems like right clicky items make the difference for helpless straight melees.
Sounds like we're gearing up for the Arena duel event.

Re: I killed a monk!
I think you are going to get your wish about the pet at least: no pets in the arena which kinda sucks for the person who I think would be the real winner, if he kept low and was careful:
Xoriz.
You would *not believe* how much damage he can deal out.
*super fear
*AE weaken
*Acid blast for 220DD
*150hp lifetaps
*root
*504hp dot, over 30 seconds
*300hp darkness: dot+snare
*spell that makes him invunerable from 245hp of melee damage
it goes on. Necros are pretty goddamn tough. He could kill me with a root, snare, boil blood, and then finish me off with an acid blast or two... and still have lotsa mana left over, he's got a pretty deep mana pool, and can lich and lifetap it back.

Shaman is Defiently not a rumble class. If I didnt get to have my pet to harry and harass Even bigger troubles. But hey Im down for a rumble anytime and anywhere.

Re: Luck!
I just wanna repeat, in case Bok thought I was saying I'd make him my bitch: If I got in the first shot, and a successful fear, I would.
But, if you got in the first shot, and it was a sucessful root, you'd win, EASILY.
Here's a tip, for all you duelers: Trolls have a racial weakness for fire. My unbuffed fire resistance is 5. I've got it up to 10 now, but if I get hit with any kind of fire spell, it will hit me for full damage, every single time, and I almost completely cannot resist them. This includes the heat blood line of spells.
Re: Duels
You know, I was doing some board moderation today, and I saw this last post by darion (the one right above).
Maybe he should not have been so boastful.
