Ok ... I can see this will be the most difficult question
A historical grave?
Asparuch's Tomb The final resting place of the Bulgar Khan who invaded the region in the 7th Century. 681 AD: the Bulgars under Kubrat's son Asparuch cross the Danube and the Romans accept their existence as an independent state
A Roman shine?
Trajan's Retreat Before going to war against the Dacians, Trajan built a shine and made sacrifices to the Gods. 98AD: Emperor Trajan then visited the crucial Danube provinces of Pannonia and Moesia, where the Dacian king Decebalus had caused much difficulty for the Romans and had inflicted a heavy defeat upon a Roman army about a decade before. Domitian had established a 'modus vivendi' with Decebalus, essentially buying his good behavior, but the latter had then continued his activities hostile to Rome. Trajan clearly thought that this corner of empire would require his personal attention and a lasting and satisfactory solution.
A natural rock formation?
Stone of Halkata Halkata – the arc-shaped stone garland, possessing, according to the legends, magic force. The Halkata is found in the The Sinite Kamani Nature Park fairly close to the proposed site of the covenant.Picture - third row down
A 'sleeping' Bulgarian Dragon?
Hall of Zmey Legend has it that a zmey, sleeps deep beneath the mountain lake that surrounds the covenant. The elder magi are scornful of the locals' fears that one day it might awaken. The zmey, or dragon is a complex being, combining elements from Thracian, Slavic and Proto Bulgarian mythologies. It is sometimes portrayed as a bad character, but often it is seen as benign and has an important place in Bulgarian myth and folklore.Source
Just some ideas ... it's usually nice to have the name reference something about the history or mythology of the place.

Re: Ideas for a Covenant name
Come on guys ... it's easier to write stuff if I don't have to refer to the covenant as "Covenant: To be named"
Skarke Bir Skarke comes from the Thracian word for a silver coin (according to this site). 'Bir' is the Bulgarian for 'lake' (according to this site)
Karaim Ereg Bending some Bulgaian words from this site again might give us "Divination of the Karaims"
Karaimism, "black superstition" is a kind non-orthodox Üdaism, acquired during the Persian Khan Darius by a part of the Near-Eastern Bulgars and later brought by them to the Khazarian horde; also the Bulgars who are professing Karaimism.
Aul Urgan A bit more bending gets "Village of the Soothsayer".
Karbatau Utlan "Throne of the Mountain Lord of Snows"
... feel free to pitch in with ideas any time guys
Re: Ideas for a Covenant name
I quite like the sound of Skarke Bir.
One that I had thought of was "Orphe Mer Udrenas" Orphe Greek for Dark/Darkness and Mer Udrenas the Thracian for great lake (body of water). Ophe is also a derivative of Orpheus, and could indicate a connection between the area and the ancient Thracian bard/sorcerer.
I'll try and rustle up some suggestions by the weekend.
Strangely enough none of the Bulgarian or ancient Thracian ones roll off the tongue .Edited by: SimpleSimon101 at: 19/10/05 21:27
Re: Ideas for a Covenant name
Mike's suggestion is too D&D for me. I like most of the Bulgarian ones - the translations are quite atmospheric - but they're all too difficult to pronounce. I still favour Asparuch's Tomb - it's easy to say unless you have a vegetable fetish.
Re: Ideas for a Covenant name
Further variations on themes ...
Covenant of the Seven Tribes. From this source ... Khan Asparukh formed alliance with seven Slav tribes combining the fast, well-organised Bulgarian Cavalry with a large, if undisciplined Slav infantry. This involves a double meaning of the word 'covenant'.
Pax Septum Tribus. An alternative Latin translation of above ... (Peace of the Seven Tribes)
edit: Anyone better at figuring out Latin Grammar? Not sure I've quite worked that one out.
Gravidus' Tribute. Before warring against the Dacians, Trajan visited the site (then a Roman outpost) and commissioned a shine to Gravidus ("The Marcher" - The title sometimes given to the god Mars).
Re: Ideas for a Covenant name
As there have been no objections to it, 'Drake's Lake' it is then, right?
Side-splitting humour aside, I'm not a big fan of 'The Halkata Archway'. So how about
Vida's Tear Vida, a powerful samodiva (a female nymph) of the Pirin mountains, accidentally shot and killed the beautiful male singer, Ivë. When she saw what she had done, she cried a single tear, which formed an enchanted lake.
Kolyada's Retreat or Kolyada's Lair By ancient pact, Kolyada (also spelt Koleda), the Slavic God of Winter, would retreat to the high mountains each year so that Summer could come and the crops grow.Edited by: KillAllTremere at: 27/10/05 12:13
I suggest that we see if one turns up soon that everyone agrees on (yeah right), failing that I suggest you exercise executive fiat and just pick one.
Oh you swine, you edited your post and made this one look pointless
