June 1st - June 19th
It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.
Influenza [3.1.09]{ISO: Sean}
Why the bloody hell had they invented something like the flu? It drove a person crazy, it really did! In fact, Tamara Shild was in the midst of going crazy right at this moment. She had holed herself up in the library with a box of Kleenex – courtesy of David – and a nice stack of books. The sniffles, the coughs, it was almost too much for her all at once!
She really didn’t know who gave her the flu, but all she knew about it was that whoever or whatever it was, was going to get their butt whooped personally. If there was one thing she really hated in the world, other than Slytherins and pranksters, it would have been people getting the flu. Seriously, her mindset was that they should be quarantined somewhere where no one else was going to catch the disease. After all, it spread almost like a plague. Where had she gotten it? The weather outside last month could have done it, of course, since Tammi seemed to be spending more and more time outside seeming colder and colder. However, there wasn’t a way that she could go outside and kick Mother Nature’s behind. Maybe in a game of Exploding Snap?
With a deep sigh, Tammi reached over to her huge box of Kleenex and pulled one out, reaching over to blow her nose. Without a doubt, the most annoying part of having the flu was a stuffed nose. If only she could sneeze it all out and be done with the whole dastardly business of going through half a box in one day! Lord, she would give up almost anything to get rid of her stuffed nose, and to get rid of it now.
Not to mention she was too stubborn to go to the Hospital Wing.
Shaking her head slightly, she threw the used Kleenex in a small trashbin next to the chair she was seated in, and looked to the pile of books. She had picked out the only books in the whole damn library that she hadn’t read before, and now was stuck with about a dozen books. No big deal. The ones she didn’t read while in the library, she’d check out. After all, her and the librarian were friends by now. Sliding the top book off the pile, Tammi glanced at the name in almost a passing fashion.
“All you need to know about Divination. No wonder why I didn’t pick this book up before.”
With another sigh, her fingers found the edge of the hardcover book and flipped it open to the first page, where her eyes found the first word and continued reading. Time to be a sponge.
Curse the size of Hogwarts Sean thought as he padded down the hallway. All Sean wanted to do was find Tammi but because of the size of the school that was proving difficult. Sean passed several students but none had seen the girl. Tammi was one of Sean's good friends and he hadn't hung out with her for a while. Through the fast paced Hogwarts grapevine Sean had heard that Tammi was sick and had set off to find her.
He felt somewhat guilty that Tammi being sick was what made him decided to go and find her today. It was a shame that he had not been able to hang out with Tammi that much. Tammi was such a fun person to hang out with but Sean had been occupied by his current girlfriend, Lynn. But a girlfriend should never gotten in the way of Sean and his friends, it never had before.
As Sean walked the castle in search of his friend he loosened his school tie. He was too lazy to change out of his uniform, for the most part. He still wore the slacks and had on the long sleeved shirt, although it was slightly unbuttoned and he had let it hang loose instead of being tucked in. The sleeves of the shirt were rolled up carefully to his elbows, they had been annoying him all day.
There were many places that Tammi could be. Sean doubted she would be laying in the common room or dormitory, that would most likely drive the girl insane. And he doubted even more that she was in the hospital wing, she wasnt' one to take her illness there.
The only place Sean could think of was the library, which was like a haven to his friend. Sean was often seen in the library hiself, usually for studying purposes. But there were times where he just liked to venture into the darkened room to read.
He entered the library, deciding on a place to start looking when he heard a sniffle and someone blowing there nose. "Bingo", he muttered. Following the sound of sickness Sean reached the spot where Tammi was seated. Leaning against a self, his arms crossed he watched Tammi open a book and start reading it.
Shaking his head Sean made his apperance known. "Are you trying to start a world record with most tissues used?" He asked her joking as he came and pulled a seat next to his friend. Looking at the pile of books surrounding Tammi he couldn't help but grin and add, "Only you would be dying and still muster up the energy to read in the library."

The sound of a voice that she recognized shocked Tammi into raising her head. Truly, this was a dream? Those were the first words that Sean had even said to her since him and Lynn had started dating - and even that she had heard from someone passing in the hallway. Sure, of course she had felt betrayed and left out, but she could understand it. He wasn't the only one of her friends that had done it - why not join the crowd?
"Nah, just trying to break it. I believe the top one was at 2,000 or something like that. Two full boxes. Almost there myself. Care to be my witness?"
If there was one thing that she enjoyed about being around Sean, it was that she could be herself. There wasn't any pretending, no trying to fit herself into a penguin suit that she just couldn't squeeze into, nothing like that. Tammi enjoyed being her ridiculous self, and that type of person only came out around a handful of people - thank God those people were the ones she called her friends. Whenever her friends were around their significant others, she felt strived to fit into those shoes - and it just didn't work. It was one of the reasons she stayed away from Sean when Lynn was around, and that was mainly the reason why her and Lynn were never friends - Sean would always be between them.
"Only you would be dying and still muster up the energy to read in the library."
Tammi chuckled, placing a tissue in the book as a bookmark - an unused one, of course - and glaned over at Sean. She was glad that he was her friend, mainly because he made her laugh like no one else did. Okay, like only a few other people did.
"But that's not true! I'm not dying yet! And plus, do you really think that I'd go to the Hospital Wing just for a little flu?"
She grinned innocently at him, pushing her book away from her by a couple inches so she could focus on her friend. There were so many snotty remarks that she could make about him and Lynn, but she was going to let it be. She was sure that he was already feeling guilty about it, and forcing a sorry out of him wasn't going to lighten her conversation with him. Tammi shifted a bit in her seat, pulling the zipper of her robe down a bit to reveal her white blouse. God, how she hated the school uniform. The only reason she wore it was because she could get in trouble - and she was very much someone that wanted to follow every rule.
"So, how's things been?"
It was the only thing that Tammi could think of to stir conversation, and she hoped to God that it would work to pull them away from the awkwardness that was created by the situation they were in. Letting out a small cough, she grinned up at Sean innocently.
Re: Influenza [3.1.09]{ISO: Sean}
Sean could relate to how Tammi was feeling. He hated getting the flu. Whenever he got it he would lock himself up in the dormitory and sleep all day. If it got worse than most likely Sean would find himself dragging his sore body up to the hospital wing; it required so much effort though.
He just didn't understand how Tammi was sitting in front of him, in the library as though she were the healthiest person alive. It was mental, really, completely mental. But Tammi wasn't one for the hospital wing and he knew it was no use to argue with her on the matter, she would win.
"Nah, just trying to break it. I believe the top one was at 2,000 or something like that. Two full boxes. Almost there myself. Care to be my witne[/i]
"Wouldn't miss such an exciting achievement as this, now would I?" Sean joked around. The seventh year liked the way that he and Tammi joked around with each other. He also liked how they could still joke around even when they had not hung out with each other for quite some time.
That was his doing mainly. Sean was so caught up in his relationship with Lynn that he hadn't realized that he hadn't spent any time with one of his best friends. He never wanted to be one of those shallow guys that gave up all his friends for a girl. But Lynn was important to Sean and he supposed he had just got caught up in everything. But then again, that was no excuse.
"But that's not true! I'm not dying yet! And plus, do you really think that I'd go to the Hospital Wing just for a little flu?"
Sean couldn't help but agree. "I suppose you're right. Hospital wings are all that fun and they probably just make people more irratable when they are locked up there."
It felt so good to be with his friend once more. Tammi was such an amazing girl; so fun to be around and easy to talk to. Any guy would be lucky to be with Tammi, Sean was in fact surprised that she was taken, at least not that he knew of.
"So, how's things been?"
Sean tried to stay away from gabbing on about him and Lynn. This time was about Tammi, a catching up time for the pair. "It's been going great. I've been studying, of course. The NEWTS are going to come eventually, can't avoid them, as much as I want to." Sean paused for a moment, trying to think. "Just been doing prefect duties, been with Lynn."
Sean tried not to cringe when he mentioned Lynn, he felt horrible for the way he had ditched Tammi. Of course he thought about her but then would always be off somewhere with Lynn before he could even begin to look for his friend.
"What about you? Besides being sick how have things been? You haven't been snagged by some lucky guy with out my knowing now have you?" Sean knew he sounded like such a girl when he talked with Tammi but that wasn't too bad. These were things he wanted to know and if it sounded like girl talk than so be it.
ooc: not too exciting...ran out of ideas for the night.
Re: Influenza [3.1.09]{ISO: Sean} "Wouldn't miss such an exciting achievement as this, now would I?"
Tammi rolled her eyes slowly, with the smallest of smiles on her face. Dear Lord, she loved to mess with Sean so much! He was such an easy target at times, and it was fun to pick on him – to an extent. She didn’t like picking on him just enough so that it could be classified between fun and being a bully, and if there was one thing Tammi didn’t like to be, it was a bully. So, naturally, it was easy for her to be nicer to her friends than to other people, say, Slytherins?
”Well, duh, why would I invite you if I thought you wanted to miss it?” Tammi said jokingly, pulling out another tissue and blowing her nose noisily.
Throwing the tissue away, Tammi reached up and rubbed her eyes slightly. It seemed that the combination of sneezing, coughing, and yawning did her in – she was starting to get sleepy as well as having watery eyes. God, why did she have to suddenly hit her sleep wall when she was having an important conversation that really might never carry on? Unless… she made it carry on? There were so many things that she could do, so many little things she could do to surprise him – or she could do it the easy way. A small smile spread across her face, and she looked up at Sean with a grin.
"I suppose you're right. Hospital wings are all that fun and they probably just make people more irratable when they are locked up there."
Tammi’s grin faded to a smile as she attempted to conceal her plan. She didn’t want him to know that she was planning something, not anything at all. Since when did she plan something? However, just to make sure, she shifted her mind track from her plan (like I’m gonna say it yet) to the conversation at hand. Getting shut up in the Hospital Wing alone all night? It would likely drive her mad if she wasn’t already. And plus, irritable wasn’t something that she needed on a lovely day like this. What she needed was some little charm to get her healthy and on her way. Sadly, with all her book reading, she didn’t find one – of course, her charming book was somewhere at the bottom of the pile.
”Bingo. If I was going to go to the Hospital Wing, you’d be going with me. Why? Just to amuse me so I don’t bore myself to death.”
"It's been going great. I've been studying, of course. The NEWTS are going to come eventually, can't avoid them, as much as I want to. Just been doing prefect duties, been with Lynn. What about you? Besides being sick how have things been? You haven't been snagged by some lucky guy with out my knowing now have you?"
Mentally, Tammi groaned. NEWTs and Lynn all in the same breath – was there any way to get the day any worse? The looming threat of NEWTs did hang on her shoulders, as it should for any decently academic student in their sixth year at Hogwarts. After all, she herself had been preparing for this moment for almost her entire six years here. After reading the whole library, it would look like she knew everything backwards and forwards. Also, Lynn – good Lord, she’d been trying to avoid the subject of Lynn. The best thing that she could do was just to think of it as just a passing comment and move on to his next comment.
A guy? With Tammi? Yeah, right!
Sean apparently didn’t know Tammi as well as he thought he did. She wasn’t the first person who would go off and find a boyfriend in a friends absence, just because she felt alone in the fact that he had a girlfriend himself. In fact, there was no way that she was getting a boyfriend this year, unless things looked up. Looked up immensely, on the other hand.
”I’ve been fine, I suppose – schoolwork and sickness, the two s’s I either hate or mildly dislike to a point.” Tammi shrugged, then grinned, ”Do you really see me on a guy’s arm? I haven’t had a boyfriend yet, and I’m proud of being the only girl in the history of Hogwarts sixth year that hasn’t had a boyfriend at all. Not that I don’t want one, of course.”
Good. Lord. She couldn’t hold it in any longer. Tammi let out a tremendous yawn, and glanced up at Sean with water-filled eyes. Why in heavens name did she have to be yawning NOW? With a sigh, she smiled weakly.
”Do you reckon you’ll be awake after curfew tonight?”
Re: Influenza [3.1.09]{ISO: Sean} ”Well, duh, why would I invite you if I thought you wanted to miss it?”
Sean put his hands up in a joking, defensive way. "Just making sure." He said quickly. Merlin's beard, how he missed Tammi. He must of been the biggest jerk in all of Hogwarts to delay a visit with the girl. Sure Lynn was important to him but Tammi was as well. Definantly Sean would have to make up for his lack of curtiousy he had shown towards his friend.
As Tammi blew her nose Sean felt bad for her. He hated being sick and knew that Tammi most certainly wanted anything but the flu. It was a good thing he decided to check up on the girl in her "time of need". If it was one thing that Sean knew it was compassion. And someone like Tammi definantly deserved his compassion.
”Bingo. If I was going to go to the Hospital Wing, you’d be going with me. Why? Just to amuse me so I don’t bore myself to death.”
Sean sat up straight suddenly and brought his hand up in a salute. "Miss Shields, I would give my life for you if I had to!" The seventh year spoke in that of a solider, trying his best to keep his voice down but still get the full effect.
Trying not to laugh Sean saluted Tammi before switching back to his normal self, as though nothing had changed in her persona.
”I’ve been fine, I suppose – schoolwork and sickness, the two s’s I either hate or mildly dislike to a point.” Sean inclined his head at those....understandable. He was growing sick of school and being sick just wasn't his cup of tea.
Tammi shrugged, then grinned, ”Do you really see me on a guy’s arm? I haven’t had a boyfriend yet, and I’m proud of being the only girl in the history of Hogwarts sixth year that hasn’t had a boyfriend at all. Not that I don’t want one, of course.”
Sean shrugged his shouldars. "Well naturally, you should be proud of that." He told her, grinning. He should of known better, Tammi wasn't one for the guys of the school. He sometimes got a vague sensation that Tammi had a crush that she wasn't telling him but it wasn't his business so he didn't pursue the matter.
Being so impresses with Tammi's tenacity at being able to handle illness he barely noticed the yawn that Tammi let escape her. It appeared that she was tiring now from the flu. Sean always hated that part, he hated feeling so tired and achey. Feeling helpless was a horrible feeling and having the flu was always a reminder of that feeling for Sean.
”Do you reckon you’ll be awake after curfew tonight?”
That question caught Sean off guard. He raised an eyebrow, a quarky little smile appearing on his face. "After curfew eh?" He asked her. So Tammi was getting an idea, and Tammi's ideas were always enjoyable.
Leaning back in his chair Sean spoke casually, "Sure, I'll be awake. I don't have "prefect duty" tonight, so I'll be able to actually do something I want tonight. You getting any ideas?" He asked her, amusement in his voice.
Re: Influenza [3.1.09]{ISO: Sean}"Just making sure."
Tammi gave a sharp nod, glancing slightly over at her pile of books. They were, after all, calling her name. So close to finishing her goal, and yet she found the want to have conversation more interesting. Goodness, was she witnessing a change in her personality? Most people would call her too centered on her books and schoolwork, more would call her a person that never has fun. Heck, she would say that she never had fun, because that’s what it really was.
Maybe it was time for a small change?
If she were to ditch some of her schoolwork to talk to friends more often, would they push her away? Her father said last summer, after all, that it was possible to do schoolwork and have time for friends as well – maybe she needed to make a little bit more time for friends rather than letting her fascination with books get to her head? Her friends would probably appreciate it, and hell – maybe she’d make some more friends? It wasn’t like she didn’t need someone to push some sense into her, after all.
"Miss Shields, I would give my life for you if I had to!"
Tammi snorted, covering her mouth to keep in the laughter. Someone who would give up her life for her, eh? He was most likely kidding – or so she hoped. She was only 16, she didn’t need that kind of responsibility yet.
’There you go again, Shortie, thinking too much of things again. You need to learn how to take a joke.’
With a large smile on her face, she raised a hand to her forehead, copying his salute. This day was going to be the start of a small change in her personality if she was going to kill herself to do it. She’d make herself a better person for her friends to be around, and she’d succeed at it eventually. All it would take is time.
”Watch out what promises you make, maggot, someone might take them seriously.” Tammi said jokingly, saluting him as he saluted her, and relaxed back in her seat
’See, dumbwit, there are some times when you can take a joke. Lets keep it up.’
"Well naturally, you should be proud of that."
Naturally! Tammi would be the proudest person in her situation – if she was in a different situation. Sometimes just being single hurt, but sometimes it was rewarding. An example she just couldn’t flush down was the Valentine’s Ball – she wasn’t able to find a date, so she just didn’t show up. It was like denying the inevitable. She knew she wasn’t going to find a date, but maybe the next ball, things would look up.
"After curfew eh? Sure, I'll be awake. I don't have "prefect duty" tonight, so I'll be able to actually do something I want tonight. You getting any ideas?"
His words stirred her from her thoughts, making her look up at him clueless for a split second, and then her face fell into a grin. Of course she had a plan – didn’t she always? She was starting to fall into the actions of a person who didn’t like obeying rules, and that was for certain. Who knew that she would be the person to go sneaking out of her dorm and meeting a guy – yes, a guy – somewhere in the castle after curfew?
”Always. I need to go take a nap, meet me at that empty classroom out by your common room about midnight… I’ll bring snacks and a few blankets, we’ll catch up. Sound good to you?”
God, why did she feel the need to use Sean as a sort of diary? She needed to hear all the things about him and Lynn from him, and she needed someone to tell everything to. Everything including Tucker. So, she’d use her best friend as a sort of emotional cushion, and hope that everything would be fine – but would it ever be? The only way to find out would be to go through with her plan, and if things didn’t turn out alright, she’d be fine eventually. It wasn’t a life or death situation, so in the end, she would just have to wing it.
Re: Influenza [3.1.09]{ISO: Sean}
Sean looked around the library knowing that Tammi had read most of the library, she was in there enough to have already. The library was a darkened and sometimes stuffy room where conversations were meant to be quiet. It was a good place to escape the every day loud life at Hogwarts school.
It was mind boggling that Tammi could just sit and read any type of book. The book had to be something that Sean was interested and in the mood to read. But not Tammi, if it was a book than she would read it, even if it wasn't a topic that peaked her interest. Props definantly went to that girl.
”Watch out what promises you make, maggot, someone might take them seriously.” Sean smiled a goofy smile and chuckled. Him and Tammi were certainly, in some ways, alot of like; they're sense of humor for one thing. Tammi was seeming a little more in a joking mood than usual but that didn't phase Sean in least.
But Sean was brought out of thoughts in the slight change of attitude when Tammi asked him about curfew. She wondered what she was up to. Tammi didn't normally go out after curfew so Sean was a little surprised at this. Naturally, Sean being a prefect and all, he was out past curfew on duty. But maybe a late night excursion with Tammi was just what they needed.
”Always. - Sean just started laughing at this but quieted down to let Tammi continue."-I need to go take a nap, meet me at that empty classroom out by your common room about midnight… I’ll bring snacks and a few blankets, we’ll catch up. Sound good to you?”
Sean grinned. He liked her idea, he always liked her ideas. It would be great to catch up with the girl, they probably had a lot to catch up on. Sean liked talking and being able to just chat about anything which was probably a good thing since his best friend was a girl.
"Sounds good to me" He chirped. "Should be great, I feel like we have a lot to catch up on." He told her excitedly. "And yes, you should probably take a nap. You are sick and need rest." He didn't mean to sound like a pest but he wanted Tammi to get better, he hated seeing her like this. "I'll see you tonight then, can't wait!" He told her, standing up.
