Is Vegetarianism really more spiritual?
Ok, there has been a fairly recent trend to say that the eating of meat is none spiritual and that the truly enlightened person would not eat meat and become a vegetarian or vegan. I have yet to hear a real good reason for this, though I have thought of one myself. But it is not about what you eat, but more about what you identify with.
Many people will say that the animals pain that it suffered before becoming a meal, is carried on with it and when you eat it, that pain becomes part of you and blocks you from being connected to higher spiritual realms.
Now I don’t find this a valid reason in itself, because hey, Jesus ate meat and seemed to have no issue with communing with God.
So I have thought about this one and came up with this. It is not really about the meat it all, but more your empathy with it. If you feel badly for what you eat, you punish yourself mentally and devalue yourself, if you devalue yourself you may not find yourself worthy to be considered a spiritual person. But, if you give up meat, you have made in your mind a noble sacrifice and thus find yourself worthy to be a recipient of spiritual gifts.
So, what do you all think?
If you don’t agree, why do you believe this?
I understand if it is part of your religion and you are just following your religion, then there is enough said in itself.
But if it is not part of your faith, but you made it part of your faith, then why?
Please, don’t tell me, just because it is bad, otherwise I will have to condemn all those Lions, Tigers and Bears, oh my.
