Jason Cromwell
Jason Cromwell OOC
Name: Matt
Contacts: You know.
Age: 15
Code: Rita Skeeter Illegal Animagus
IC:
Full Name: Jason Dwendle Cromwell
Nickname(s): Jase, Jay
DOB: January 14th, 1993
Year: 5th
Blood: It is not entirely known what Jason’s blood heritage is, seeing as how his mother claims the “virgin birth” card. However, from the way his mother avoids the subject, Jason has come to the realization that his father was a Muggle and therefore he is not a pureblood but a halfblood (though he would never let on that he thought so, due to the disdain of mixed blood in the Slytherin house.)
House Preference: Slytherin
Why: Though being arrogant and cruel is not what you are put into Slytherin for, it sure is a product of the power-hungry attributes of those who are placed in the house. Jason is just that – power-hungry and lusts for attention. Thriving on both, Jason tends to do anything to get more, including physical means. Though not as bad as various Slytherins of the past, he fits in to the “bad” crowd of serpents quite well. Even though he strive for many of the wrong things, Jason is ambitious and does go for the gold. He is one young man who will go for something that he believes in and when the goings get tough, well you know. The point is, Jason is truly one to reach for what he wants, and tends to get there.
Physical Appearance: One might think that Jason, due to his boney face and high cheek bones, that he is extremely skinny. It is quite the contrary, however. Jason weighs in at a heavy 175 and stands relatively tall at 5’11”. His weight-to-height ratio might let on that Jason is, in fact, quite bulky and muscular beneath his robes. There is simply not a spot where a muscle has gone undefined or unused by his daily workout. To add to his already built look, Jay has some rather broad shoulders and is naturally wide-framed. Although tall, Jason tends to have a long torso and, not quite stubby, but short legs for his height.
More noticeable than his “shorter than average” legs are Jason’s slightly feminine facial qualities. Above a craning neck lies the face of what by some might be described as an angel. At the peak of his body lies a rather neat length of hair that races down and slopes slightly upward at around the lobes of his ears. It is a rather dark shade of brown that could easily be mistaken as black and is fairly tamed to point that all strands go in the same direction and aren’t bent easily. To keep the mass out of his eyes he usually slicks it to either side with a natural part down the middle of his head. Somehow something more extravagant sits just below the darkness. Like a cry of mercy, Jason’s bright blue eyes fight off the lurking darkness above.
Surrounding the crystal pools are eyelashes that perfectly match the mass of hair above. They tend to offset the shocking aqua color of his irises so much that one is ensnared by them. Underneath these magnificent sights lies a rather pointed nose with a bridge dotted by speckles colored brown and black. Lips that are normally seen pursed are a shade between pink and red and are lightly cracked most of the time. Surrounding all of his standing features is his pale complexion given to him from his Irish decent. However pale he is, though, Jason tends to easily flip between bright red when embarrassed and sheet white when in shock or angry. Although not entirely manly, his chin still has the flatness and broadness that makes it look so prominent.
Being in the family that Jason is, there is little time to put on Muggle clothing and there is little want on Jason’s side as well. His normal outfit at home is a elegant cloak or robe in which he sits inside all day and does no work for his mother. The only work he truly does is for himself, and it’s simply to make him “more attractive” to himself. Occasionally he will rearrange his wardrobe to fit his schedule and to make him comfortable on trips to hot places or the opposite, but otherwise Jason is normally caught in his expensive clothing his mother has bought him. Along with expensive clothes, Jason fancies anything that makes him richer or more important and finds ways to show of expensive jewelry that he has either pawned from places, taken without warning from displays at his home or bought with intent to be vein.
Pesonality:
As afore mentioned, Jason is known for his characteristic power-hunger. To ensure his might, Jason tends to invoke his wrath and fear into others. He goes to large measures to carry out his jurisdiction, mainly through his cronies. This need for absolute rule leads into his greed. Jason tends to get what he wants and since he’s so used to the feeling of no one turning him down, asks for more and more. Along with ensuring his rule, Jay tends to ensure that he gets what he wants, regardless of how hard it is to obtain. Included with these slightly awful traits is his less flattering (if the others are flattering at all) and slightly annoying attention-whore characteristic. If Jason can be in the spotlight, Jason will be in the spotlight. Again, to obtain he will cross most any person and travel most any road.
To carry out most of his commands and to get what he wants, Jason must be as cruel as he can to instill fear into others. Seemingly lacking compassion for most people, (or things for that matter) Jason is not often brought up in a conversation as “kind” or “nice” but simply brought up by the speaker to show how popular they are for being friends, or around Jason at all, with him. Many people talk to and stay friends with Jason for the simple idea of fear. Being the extrovert he is, Jay usually finds large groups of people to gather into being his friend. One could say he is the kind of person you know you hate but want to be around due to his popularity. Also, one who might overanalyze the boy might say that he is the kind of person that truly lacks any friends at all.
All the attention he gets along with his popularity gets to the boy’s head. A few words to explain his behavior could be vein, conceited, self-centered, etc. When people follow him and treat him like king, Jason tends to feel he bests anyone and lets them know it too. He believes he’s extremely handsome, intelligent (which is quite true, the way that he plays his peers like slaves and gets out of trouble so easily using wit), and talented in magic, regardless of what people say. The worst thing you could do to Jason is go behind his back and reveal how you truly feel about him. It’s one thing to say it to his face and be punished but to rat to one of his acquaintances who is dying to be in his “inner circle” is wishing for death.
History: Born to Erin Cromwell on the night of January 14th, 1993 in a Muggle hospital just four blocks from his home in Bristol, Jason Cromwell simply stared around the hospital room and began to cry like any normal child would (normal save the flicker of the lights at each outburst from his mouth). Consequently, Erin had the distinct feeling that Jason did indeed take her magical traits and laughed often at her non-existent husband. Erin would continue this habit until Jason came to understand it. She would often laugh, however, when Jason brought up the subject of his father and would sarcastically say, “Jason, dear, you have no father. All you need is a caring mother, and that’s all you came from!”
And that’s exactly what Erin was – a loving, caring mother watching over a boy who was slowly but surely becoming somewhat of a greedy and unkind child. At the age of five all manners had gone and his mother, surprisingly enough, had become his doormat and slave. There were no more “pleases” or “thank yous” before or after sentences and what he might have asked for politely a year earlier had become a demand. She would clean up after him without reprimand – oh, reprimand was a terrible thing. To tell Jason to do something was like lighting the fuse on a bomb.
The younger years left and around came his 10th birthday, which, in essence, caused much commotion in the Cromwell residence. Most would think that turning 10 was not necessarily a big deal. However, Erin knew that if she did not celebrate large for Jason, who had now proved well in curse casting simply by throwing a fit, he would certainly do something terrible. She decided, as she was allowed by Jason, that there would be, what would seem to a Muggle with a small understanding of magic, a festival with rides resembling those of Muggle festivals but slightly enchanted for more pleasurable rides. Somehow, though, Jason found a way to be displeased with this action. He said to his mother that the party was too “Muggle-like” and certainly disapproved of it. Jason, however, did not throw a tantrum after his mother cried in her room for a few hours. She couldn’t stand the fact that her only son disliked his blood-line. Being the Slytherin she was, she decided that it was only fair to have Jason think what he wanted about his father. She knew he was a Muggle but was not proud of it herself, really. Knowing that it was a one night thing that got her pregnant with Jason, she was extremely ashamed of herself and could not bear to talk about it to him.
The next year came so quickly Erin did not know what to do with herself. Jason had assembled a large group of friends which he demanded she take places often. She was quite convinced that Jason was draining her steadily of her fortune left to her by her father. Taking quick action she decided it would be best to find herself a date, that, eventually, could replace the poor excuse of what Jason thought was his deceased father. Soon after this decision on Erin’s part a man by the name of Draggle McGreyvin entered the front door kissing Erin passionately. Outraged, Jason threw one of his tantrums and smashed a lamp over Draggle’s “girly-man” head.
The day of his birthday Jason received what he had hoped for, for what seemed forever since he heard the stories of magic from his mother. They traveled to Diagon Alley eventually and bought top-notch items for Jason. Being as pleased as he was with his mother he hadn’t been angry with her at all the rest of the time he spent with her. If anything, Jason was quite kind (as kind as Jason can be) and, for the first and basically only time in his life, helped his mother. Soon it was time to leave for Platform 9¾. This, undoubtedly was the last time that he kissed his mother farewell.
Immediately Jason was in a different world. He was so used to bossing his mother and his neighborhood friends around that he suspected it would be easy to do it to others on the train. Quite the contrary, however. Jason was put down over and over as he yelled at people who looked around his age to let him sit in the cart until he reached a cart with a couple of small first years. Clearly he could over power but he simply said, “I’m sitting here,” and left it at that. By and by the smaller boys were frightened by his monarch-like behavior but were in awe that he commanded his power so well. Eventually they talked and became what all three thought were friends. They reached the grounds and made their way to the sorting hat reluctantly each, but Jason showed his leadership qualities once again and plunged forth into the unknown without noticeable fear. The cap wriggled on his head for about two seconds as Jason thought of how well he obtained his rule on the train, not knowing that the filthy wizarding hat was carefully calculating his destiny. “SLYTHERIN,” erupted the shabby looking hat and the feeling in the pit of Jason’s stomach relaxed. The table filled with green did the same as the hat and cheered until he took his seat. Jason must have mistaken this cheering for the idea that they wanted him in Slytherin, but it was more or less the idea that everyone cheered whenever someone came to sit at their new house table. This began the era of the conceited boy known as Jason Dwight Cromwell.
The year passed and he gained cronies and other such “minions”, as he liked to call them, and he was on his way back to his dear mother Erin by train. Ready to hug her a hello and share his new found glory, he was interrupted by a rather tall looking man whom he did not recognize holding his mother hand politely. “Who’s this git,” he said with a tone of rising anger in his voice. He remembered what had happened to Draggle just a few months previous and chuckled.
“Jason! That’s no way to talk to Mr. Dwendle! Where are your manners?” There was a slight pause as the two thought that question over – Jason never truly had any. “James and I have been dating since just a few days after you left for Hogwarts,” his mother added. However, this seemed to further outrage Jason, yet he could not make a scene such as he did with Draggle in public. At that moment he realized what his mother had done; she had dated this man after he went to Hogwarts so when Jason came back, he would not be allowed to throw the tantrum that he had before for two reasons. One, he was not allowed to use magic outside of school or else he might be expelled, and two, James was much more burly than Draggle, and he figured it was her plan to discipline him with the leviathan.
The summer passed with his mother asking him politely, at first, to do chores and help her and James around the house. Eventually, however, it got to the point that Jason’s stubbornness mounted and reared it ugly head, leading Erin to ask James to step in as a father figured to discipline. James, more than happily barking orders at Jason after hearing the stories of past terror, made Jason’s once carefree and easy life much harder and miserable. However, much of the misery was made worse by Jason when he would refuse to do chores and such other things. Eventually the next year came and Jason hurriedly grabbed his new things from Diagon Alley (which were no longer top-notch because James was also the money-maker and “accountant of the family) and headed to King’s Cross station once more. Reluctantly he hugged James goodbye and kissed his mother before departing. All he remembered that he liked about James was that he was a wizard.
Second year came and Jason found himself continuing his odd trend of recruiting new students into his clan of misfits. Mostly by looks, Jason picked students out of their first year and nonchalantly hung around them, making them feel quite in-place and “cool”. The year came with tricks and trouble, pranks and detention. Jason knew now that without being slightly covert about his evil doings, he would be in tons of trouble. This was the year that Jason started using his new found “friends” at his bidding. He was the ringleader and was gaining his power and attention quickly.
Summer of that year seemed to be better in Jason’s eyes. He tended to find ways to lower his workload and please James more often by helping out without and argument. Occasionally the two would fight (and his mother would as well) but all in all the summer passed by so quickly and smoothly, that September 1st came around and Jason was not at all regretful of giving both his mother and James a hug goodbye. Something about the year made it seem wrong. Jason tended to think continually that it was that fact that both his previous summer and all of his trickery and other schemes had been going so smoothly. Again he recruited new blood and put them to his evil bidding, but seemed to never be caught in the act. Being quite pleased with his work for the year, the eager-to-go-home boy jumped off his trainride home to be welcomed by his mother and no James. Apparently, from what his mother had told him, James had got a new job at the Ministry as the field man for the Misuse of Magical Artifacts. She told Jason that he had evidently been on multiple trips to exotic places and wouldn't come home for weeks at a time. She, however, was doing fine on her own and had hired house elves to do her bidding. Throughout the summer James would come home for relatively short periods at a time and would be therefore stressed. Jason, at the age of 14, had suspected the worse - he believed James was having a seperate life. Of course it was quite a ludicrous idea, but he stuck by it and believed nothing other. Eventually Jason became so thoroughly set on his notion that he began to hate James for something he was not even sure was true. Again the time to pass on to Hogwarts for his 4th year came very quickly, and he left with his mother to board without James, who had, before he left for Egypt to study ancient anhks and things of that nature, had told Jason to have a wonderful year and he hoped to see him that Christmas.
That year all he could think of was the mental image of James coming home and kissing his mother, then leaving for "Africa" and going to snog some lady named something exotic. James also indirectly ruined Jason's trouble-making for the year. He had had more detentions in one month than any other time in his whole Hogwarts career. Ironically, around Christmas time, the Slytherin Head of House at the time had been fed up by the typical complaints from students and teachers alone of his tretchery that Jason was called down and a meeting with his parents was arranged. Being as disappointed as possible without upsetting Jason, his mother took him home for Christmas and sure enough, there sat James in the leather armchair near the fireplace. After a little chat that came without, surprisingly, no yelling, James and Erin decided to break the news.
They had decided, Jason had figured, to get married at that time, because James had changed jobs once more and was located much more conveniently near home. Although not absolutely thrilled by the idea, Jason couldn't complain because James was truly the only father figure he had ever had. Days turned into weeks and then into months. On August 15th, Erin Cromwell became Erin Colleen Dwendle, and now 15 years old, Jason stayed Jason Cromwell, but took Dwendle as his middle name, never really caring for Dwight.
RP Sample: A knobby kneed elf stood before the handsome wizard sitting aimlessly on the couch. There was a deep silence that, oddly enough, didn't make either of the beings flinch. Jason was used to Ebipip standing in front of him, awaiting his orders, and sometimes he enjoyed having the power. Raising his head from examining his nails, he looked at Ebipip who was fully concentrated on what task Jason might give him. Jason stared at the malformed creature for a few moment and decided he was hungry.
"Ebipip, get me a sandwich, you know my favorite kind," Jason said demandingly, but in a calm and low tone.
"Yes, sir," replied Ebipip and with that he dissapperated to what one might think the kitchen. Jason reversed his state and sat himself less awkwardly in the large armchair as he heard the front door open. Although the Cromwells lived in a large house it was not hard to hear the large oak doors through fairly slim walls. There was a click that Jason recognized as the door shutting and a familiar voice rose above the silence. "Jason, come help your mother with the groceries," bellowed James, not knowing of the thin walls that most normal conversations could be heard through.
"She has magic, why doesn't she use it?"
"Jason, you know what this means to your mother," said James as he walked up to the relaxing Jason, directing a few market bags to the kitchen with his drawn wand. "Just, please, I'm asking you now, to help your mother. Not for my sake, but for hers," pleaded James, but without facial expression.
Annoyed, Jason sat up and walked out to help his mother who was seemingly carrying a very light load of bags and figured without him she would be fine, but remembered what James had said and decided to help her regardless. Ebipip had appeared at Jason's feet just after he had finished putting the rest of the groceries away, without magic, of course, and he decided, "I'm not hungry, really," and gave Ebipip a push as the saddened elf disappeared taking the ham sandwich away. Truthfully, Jason had wanted that sandwich but for some twisted reason loved to make Ebipip do things for no reason. Eventually, however, he would have him do it again for him, just to know that he had that much control over something.
