Kinda Homophobic friends
I was just wondering do any of you have homophobic friends. I do... well kinda. One minute the saying really nasty things bout Gay people and taking the piss like all the time and other times they're like nice about them and say they wish one of us were *cough*!!!ME!!!*cough*. So coming out would be hard for me coz I don't know how they would take it. Grrrr life is confusing

Re: Kinda Homophobic friends
Before I came out I also had some really homophobic friends, but even if only to my face, they seemed to take it really well.

Your so lucky.

Homophobia is so in this season. I wish all my friends were homophobes...they are the new racists! It's like the new black.

I think there is a particular group who have nothing against gays, it's just when they have to watch two men kiss or talk about gay sex which is the point where they turn all nasty :shakes

I think my best mate is probably gay so it doesn't matter lol - I can act as camp as I want around him :lol

My best female mate said other day, "God, I wish I had a gay friend!" :clap :clap :clap I'm like, "You've already got one!" :D

Sounds like typically immature behaviour to me. Whether you choose to come out or not, the mature thing would be to challenge them.

Re: Kinda Homophobic friends
Im pretty sure a few of my mates were homophobic until they found out about me. When I first told a few of them they were like 'woah' and kept there distance for a while, but a few months later all the usual jokes kicked in - the whole 'shouldnt bend over infront of a bender' thing was the most common one I got. But a year after I told em they dont seem to care anymore.

My advice would be that if you are gonna tell them, then don't rub it in or flaunt it for a while. Wait until they're comfortable with having a gay mate and then you can get in there with the tight t-shirts and 'comical' arse-grabbing etc etc

My straight freinds always take the piss and i play along with it, i camp it up big style and they love it!
They even join in and once one of them jumped on top of me in the pub and pretended to fuck me (dry hump)
Much laughter ensued.

It was really nice as it feels like im a celebrity! I just thrive on the attention and im sure alot of you lot do too.

I don't mean any offence by this, but i just wanna say that i would absolutely hate that. I'd feel like a clown, and that they were laughing at my expense. No, offence though, i'm sure you guys take the piss out of each other and it's just a bit of fun. ;)

I hate people who like being the centre of attention. It really bugs me for some reason. :stick

Without meaning to confuse you, I had a friend that I thought would take it really well, as he was always camp-acting, and he used to be really flirty with men. Then when I told him he started getting really homophobic, so now we dont speak. It just goes to show how different people take it in weird ways, so your friends might not actually be homophobic. Sorry if i am waffling

Re: Kinda Homophobic friends
In my experience a lot of straight guys seem to come across as homophobic but in actual fact aren't. I reckon a lot of it has to do with ensuring others know for certain they aren't "one of them", sort of asserting their sexuality so their is no question of their "manliness". I don't see that as homophobic, I think that is quite natural. If I was straight I don't think i'd want my sexuality to be questioned all the time. They will use terms of playful abuse like "bender" or "fag" but again I don't see that as homophobic. I use those terms in just the same context. True homophobia is when 3 guys pin you up against a wall in the street and kick you head in because you're a "poof". Or scratch "arsebandit" into the bonnet of your Renault Clio. Most guys are just a bit embarrassed about the thought of two guys getting it on and I think that's normal, I mean I heave everytime I think about a fit bloke eating a dripping hairy pussy. :x

Re: Kinda Homophobic friends
I used to be in charge of bus crews, and they all knew I was gay (some of them were too!!) and nobody was ever offensive to me at all.

Obviously I had a bit of micky-taking banter occasionally, but it was all good humoured. I actually enjoyed it really. Even had a cuddle occasionally :lol :lol

It's surprising how people don't really care once they know you are, and might even tone down their comments in front of you - but it's a good idea not to take everything, including yourself, too seriously. A bit of harmless banter is no problem!

Typical asinine comment, not that I'd expect anything less :headbang

Coming out to them may help end your friends homophobia. They already know you, and you don't become a different person because of your sexuality (or them knowing it). If it does matter to them, then they aren't worth having as friends in the first place. They should accept you for who you are.
Always a tough one, coming out. Joey's advice about telling someone you trust is very good advice. Good luck :)

Re: Kinda Homophobic friends
one of my mates used to make the odd comment till i came out to him , but he's really sound with me now , although if i'm struggling with a beer he'll say"are you a puff or what?" , then he'll correct himself and apologize , which i find annoying!
At the end of the day you do know whom your real friends are.
