Lockout. (V-chan)
"I saw it here a while ago, but I didn't think too much of it."

The heavy doors of the auditorium were pushed open. Outside was a dreary looking evening, the threat that a storm was on its way...maybe neither of the two female student would mind. Both would enter and the doors would shut behind them with an loud echo. A clap of thunder would sound just as the doors closed: coincidence or not?

"This way."

Amber Ramius would lead the way, walking towards the stage. Yes, there was to be a lone door there; once believed to be locked up or so her imagination implied. There maybe have been a sign there, there were a few peices of tape capturing a corner edge of paper.

"See? I know where the other doors lead, but this one...odd, ne?"

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
V is the one who turned the auditorium lights on. A click, and then the entire place is awash in half-light. The place echoes, thanks to the acoustics, and the fall of V's steps aren't soundless, but they are quiet. They skirt the edge of the stage, the piano, covered up just now, too large to move easily (although, with a school full of strength freaks, it's not difficult), garners not even one glance. It gives off an impression of solidarity.

An impression matched by the door, in the hallway which leads to backstage. The dark day (the clouds block all the sun) gives the air a distinct feeling of holiday. "Yes, it is. I wonder what's inside?" V turns the knob, and it unlocks. "No dead bodies, I hope."

Whether or not that was a joke is up for debate.

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
A lightning flash lights up the outside of the school and the sound was audible inside. Amber jumped, naturally; another moment of coincidence or not she wondered. No, please let there not be any dead bodies inside.

V was the one to open the door, letting an alley of light reveal stairs. Where the stairs led was too dark to tell, it was as if the darkness was a monster that swallowed the light. Amber shivered as a cool gust brushed between the two girls.

"It doesn't lead under the stage exactly," the winged girl was thinking aloud. "That's what the door on the opposite end of the stage leads to..."

Amber glanced up at V before she would take the first step, reaching for a light switch. Her hand pressed against the cold wall until she found a small switch in the darkness.

Click. Buzz...Hum...

A pair of dim lights struggled to light up with no avail. This was the brightest it was going to get. The bottom steps could be seen at least but there were shadows all along the walls.

"Creepy..."

"Yes. Hmm."

Thoughtful and cautious V, she doesn't make any move to dart downstairs and into that waiting darkness, not even in the spirit of exploration. Instead, she pinches her chin between forefinger (curled) and thumb. Profile shot, delicate etched.

Not a sword on her, only the pendulum tied to her hand. It would glow with a gentle blue light before Amber started to descend the stairs. Unlike horror movies that played with Amber's mind, the stairs didn't creak but the soundof her heels did echo in a semi-ominous way.

It was those shadows, they moved at times. It was one of those childhood fears that things are waiting in the dark to consume them.

No, don't think that! You got over this years ago!

A roll of thunder could be heard above them, as if knowing their activities. Ah, but there are no monsters or bodies down here. It would be easy to tell by now...but she had to admit that there was an odd smell; stale air and something else she couldn't place.

"No worries," she muttered to herself.

Thunder crashes, cymbal-like; moves to a crescendo. Genevieve is not afraid of the dark; shadows have never disturbed her or creeped her out. They don't know, but still, she stands at the threshold; her attention is elsewhere. Amber is halfway down the stairs when V realizes it.

"Wait," she says, then wedges a thin block of wood under the door to keep it open, and follows. Down, down, down. The illumination is enough to see a small room packed with all kinds of forgotten pieces of junk. There's a sagging couch. And there's also another door, leading elsewhere.

Doors within doors...

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
She waits when V tells her to before continuing down the stairs. A glance around revealed junk packed into several open boxes, a couch, and another door. Not beneath the stage, so where could a door like this lead to? Amber moved a box settled infront of it with her foot, leaving an imprint in a surrounding of dust.

"Looks like no one has touched this door in a long time..." she said, her shoe tapping the spot. It would be the winged girl this time to open the door. It took a little bit more effort this time, but a few twist and turns of the knob and the door opens with a creak and a shudder.

Long tables, some with dingy and archaic looking excuses of microscopes and other assorted lab instruments. There were folders messily stacked in a cabinet, the door long since broken. Boxes stacked in corners gave the room a much more cramped look than the one before it. A plastic skeleton hung in another corner, the sunken eye sockets staring at the two girls as they entered.

And Amber makes a remark: "Messy."

"Mm." Acknowledgement. "Is there a light switch?" The illumination from the open door only reaches so far. V, despite appearances, unaccompanied by her own nimbus of light, lets her backpack hang by one strap, and unzips it's belly. The backpack is a sickeningly cute animal, quite at odds with her personality.

Beyond the long tables and the archaic equipment (instruments of torture) is another door. The door has a birdcage and a hat-rack in front of it.

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
"How many doors are down here?" Without a real reason, Amber had whispered her question. A single light turned on, dimmer than the ones Amber shut in the beginning. The door is blockaded off by a table, hat-rack and birdcage...what kind of place was this? Did this door lead to another room or had this once been a classroom? It looked it at least, a science lab-room.

And Amber had not noticed before but something caught the corner of her eye: there were dark, hand-shaped prints on the wall on the left side of the door. Where had she seen this before?

And she moved the cage and hatrack, moving them to the side. Curiosity led her, urged her to move the table. It would be a pulling effort and thankfully wasn't too heavy.

"If this leads to another room, what the heck would be in it?" she asked V while she moved the obstacles. The stale smell returned with much stronger force that Amber fanned the air with her hand.

Would either girl noticed that behind them stood a woman, shiloetted by the light of the door. A woman that held a small bell in her wrinkled hand. Would they turn or would it be too late-

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
Walking down the hallway and toward the auditorium and as she walked, she noticed that the door was open. Thinking in her mind, she remembered back to when she left doors open at home. Her mother told her that they shouldn't, especially outside doors. Of course, Nyoko never really distinguished between inside and outside doors, so she closed them all when they were open. Pushing it, she watched it slowly slam shut. She blinked as she stared at it and then continued walking, paying no mid to why the door was open in the first place.

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
Ring . . .

At the first sounding of the long tone, V whips around, cuts air from air -- the movement was so sharp. The diminutive old woman stands at the bottom of the stairs and for someone so small fills up the second doorway with her shadow, her wide and tranquil (and malicious?) smile.

Ring. . .

"You!"

Ring . . .

"The door!" The light from the auditorium disappears, and a moment later, the light bulb fizzles out, and both Amber and V are in the dark. The dark is reliefless, and so intense it presses on their eyes; the dark is ultimate. There's not even the slightest whisper of light to illuminate their way.

Then the lamp turns on, again, but one of it's lightbulbs are dead.

[For whom the bell tolls.]
Her hand was already on the door's handle, on the verge of opening to see what was inside. And then...

Ring. The first one sent a shiver down Amber's spine, the strange and wavering echo from a crimson bell. She knew that sound, will always remember that sound-

Ring. The second one alarmed her and she looks over her shoulder, staring at the shilohette in the doorway. HER! All things that come in threes were rarely good. The first time that had happened, she and V had encountered strange figures and chased into an alley. This time...she couldn't count on Karrody getting them out of this mess.

"The door!"

Ring. The two are plunged into sudden darkness as the lights from the auditorium vanished. A descent into hell, she thought frantically, her hand still frozen on the doorknob. A lamp struggles to come back to life, a dim glow in the room. V was still there with her (and alive!) and so was she. The room was still stacked with boxes and the long tables held their oddities.

"Damn." Amber swore gently. "She came back...let's get out of here."

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
V closes her eyes, briefly. The plunge into darkness sees a rise in the babble [a tower, a tower] of shadows around her. They get so loud; she doesn't hear Amber. The light flicks back on. V's eyes stay closed for a moment. Then, "Yes," she says. "Let's go."

The lovely milk and gold teenager glances over her shoulder at the door. The doorknob which Amber's hand had been on when the old woman reappeared. Her eyes drop to the line of darkness at the crack where the door meets the ground. There's something odd there, scratches in the concrete.

And then V will shake her head, and go with Amber through the rooms and to the stairs and to the door to the auditorium.

Which is locked. Firmly.

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
Locked, just as she had hoped it would NOT be and knew it would be.

A curse fufilled or maybe it was just plain bad luck that the two were stuck down in an unknown basement. Whatever it was, Amber's wings drooped along with her mood and with a sigh she sat on the stairs, mindful that she was wearing a dress.

"How does she DO that..." Amber muttered. Whenever the old lady was around, trouble followed as just as well as any curse would've done. Granted they had only seen her once before, the creepy old woman proved to be something troublesome.

But who IS she?

"Now what do we do...?" Amber asked, her dark eyes staring back down the stairs. That last door, she mused to herself, maybe it could be an exit? Going with her own thoughts, Amber would stand up again and dust off her dress.

"I have my cellphone," V says, once she releases the door's knob. "Do you have a hair pin?"

As she speaks, V lets the sickeningly cute backpack fall off her shoulder. She hitches it up with one thigh and then unzips it. The thing's head falls back: so cute, so soft, so adorable. The cellphone is withdrawn; snapped open. But who to call? V's hardly going to call S just because she was locked in a closet . . .

"I don't know the school's number."

"Neither do I...and I don't have a hair pin either..." Amber says in a tearful manner. Stuck in a cold (and it is) basement without an obvious way out. The accumilation of various horror movie plot elements dominated her mind: but this wasn't a movie either!

Calm down! Okay, the old woman showed up, but that doesn't mean something will happen!

"Hmm..." Her eyes traveled back down the stairs, door beyond door and to another without knowing what was behind there. Maybe there was a chance...

"Hey V, do you think that last door we found could be an exit?"

"I don't know. Could it?"

Amber is used to this way V has of occasionally phrasing questions that seem as if they're to her, but also seem as if they aren't to her; it's nothing new. The shadows babble, but nothing useful comes forth. They talk about mice, mostly. Nobody's been in here for a long time. The air smells stale.

V takes a couple of steps back down the stairs. Her boots echo, hollow.

"We should go check." She glances at Amber, and she's so serious; it doesn't suit the made-of-light features. "This is deep on school grounds. The teachers wouldn't allow anything dangerous in here."

Pause.

Pause.

Pause.

Pause.

Agreed.

Again, V leads and the half-angel follows back into the stale-air basement. The door behind them was locked, so it was entirely possible that the final (well, maybe not) door they had found could be a way out. Amber could visualize opening the door and finding a spiraling staircase made of stone, torches barely lighting the way. She could imagine her and V climbing up, ducking out of the flight path of bats until they reach the top. A door would open and it would lead to...the school roof!

By now, Amber had become lost in thought but she had continued to follow, snapping out of her daze one they had arrived at the door again. The obstacles were out of the way, it was clear what must be done.

"Shall I open it, or can you brave it?" Amber asked, trying to relieve the tension.

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
V appears to be distracted (abstracted) and it takes a moment before she answers Amber. She adjusts the strap of her knapsack, and her gaze lingers on the ceiling and its network of pipes and wires. The light doesn't get to all the corners, so there are plenty of shadows, thick as the dust; nobody's been in here for a while. "Yes."

She wanders away from Amber and, while fingering a strange groove in one of the walls, murmurs under her breath: "Is this a way out?"

It's funny. She trusts Amber enough to tell her about the curse (some of the story about the curse). But she still doesn't like to make a great show of her ability to understand the language of shadows, and of course, it goes without saying that her ability to manipulate luck has never so much as been hinted at . . .

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
Amazingly the door creaks open on its own, neither girl had touched the door! An illusion? The wind? Air pressure? It didn't matter, the door was open, leading into darker territory. Whatever dim light that was on the girl's side melted into the next. There was a glimmer of glass somewhere, faint but promising. Amber would be the one to reach her hand in, her fingers crawling across the wall before reaching a switch.

Click.

The lights stuggled to become brighter but in the end, was as dim as the other rooms. Better than being plunged into darkness anyways. A wide room, more cabinets along the wall and long stretches of tables with familiar instruments out as if waiting for their arrival. There were stacks of notebooks on one of the desks and two along the cabinets. Lockers in one corner, littered with cobwebs and boxes stacked up against them. What a familiar room, almost like-

"...A lab?" Amber finished her own thought. An old one untouched in years, but it was a lab nonetheless. Her heart sank as she glanced around; there were no other doors.

Re: Lockout (V-chan)
Amber continues forward and finds the lab. V stayed back in the other room, a spindle slender figure with her hands at her side. She doesn't touch a single thing. She doesn't fidget. She listens, and her gaze is absorbed by the careful attention she pays. In the other room, Amber whispers, A lab? at the same time V's head lifts. Her spine straightens, rigid. "Amber, get out of that room. Now. Shut the door. Let's go."

There's a chest in the lab, and a closet, and a phone right beside the closet and the chest. With it, they might be able to dial the office; it looks like one of those school phones which goes from room to room to room. They're still locked inside.
