Madonna has married director Guy Ritchie, in a private ceremony on Friday in Skibo Castle in Dornoch, Scotland. The official word came from Church of Scotland minister Susan Brown speaking to reporters outside her home, according to a report by Reuters. The minister offered no details on the ceremony.
CNN estimates that close to 1,000 reporters descended on Skibo Castle to cover the event. The news outlet reported that a string of high-profile guests (including Sting, Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney) joined the couple at Skibo Castle on Friday afternoon.
Madonna and Ritchie gave birth to their first child, son Rocco, in August (see "Madonna's A Mom, Again"). The child was the second for Madonna, who gave birth to daughter Lourdes in 1996.
British media initially speculated that Madonna and her Guy would be wed at nearby Dornoch Cathedral, the same site where Rocco was christened on Thursday (December 21), with the reception to be held at Skibo.
It remained unknown on Saturday whether the ceremony was originally planned for Skibo, with the initial reports designed to throw off the hordes of press and curious onlookers that descended upon the Scottish town.
The Associated Press reports that one man was arrested inside the cathedral on Friday night immediately after the christening, although he apparently did not interrupt the ceremony.
