June 1st - June 19th
It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.
Meetings with a friend[2/11/09](ISO: Lynn)
What an odd and uneventful day it had been.
From attending the few classes that had been called into session earlier in the day, she was off for a while. She didn't know if she wanted to drag herself to Charms later in the day...oh, well. She figured she would see how she was feeling.
As she walked down to the stables, all seemed tranquil. It was chilly, however...most days in February were. This term she hadn't been that social and into things...she was mostly lost in her thoughts. School had certainly gotten much harder, considering she was a fifth year and she would have OWLs at the end of the year...in which she was not looking forward to. Between studying for classes, Quidditch, and writing lengthy letters back to her friends and sister in San Jose, she hadn't found much time for anything else.
It wasn't fair on Lynn. She was practically her best friend around Hogwarts...there wasn't anyone else like her. Both her and Lynn were go-against-the-crowd people that they seemed to have been made for each other. Even though Arabella believed Hannah and Kaitlyn were her best friends in the world back in San Jose, Lynn was her best magical friend. She couldn't be much bothered to compare them any further, because they couldn't be compared.
As she arrived, she hoped Lynn might be there. Fat chance, but she still had to try. She pulled her long furry jacket closer around her as she settled in a bench by one of the horse's stalls.
It was quiet. She didn't hear anybody or see much of anything, besides the horses, of course. Maybe Lynn wasn't around after all.
Lynn had been drifting on a cloud for the past week and a half. She and Sean were keeping both their relationship and the fact that they were going to the Valentine’s Ball together under wraps. She was starting to feel like a mummy, though, very claustrophobic. She kept having to bite her tongue to keep from telling someone like Puck, or … well, she hadn’t really seen Arabella around much lately, despite the fact that the girl was her best friend.
Sad, really. They were already far more than halfway through their years at Hogwarts, and they should be thoroughly enjoying those years with their friends and, if possible, significant others. Besides, she was bursting to tell SOMEONE that she exactly did have a significant other now, particularly since she knew it would shock whoever she told. Even so, she and her boyfriend had promised each other that they would keep it quiet, but it was getting harder by the minute.
It wouldn’t be long, however, before they could go public with their relationship, and that day couldn’t come soon enough for Lynn. For now, though, she’d take a break from her studies and head down to one of the only quiet places in Hogwarts where she knew it was likely that she wouldn’t be bothered. Smiling to herself, she pulled on a warm Icelandic sweater and headed outside and down towards the stables. Hardly anyone ever came down here, and horses were often far better company than people.
Humming softly, she closed the stable door behind her and began to stroll down along the stalls, stopping every once in a while to pet a familiar friend. She went past another, and would have gone further, when something – or someone – caught her eye. Backing up comically, Lynn grinned at the girl sitting on the bench. “Long time no see,” she said, crossing her arms. “Where you been, stranger?”
Merlin, was this a blessing or a curse? She finally had someone to talk to, but she couldn’t tell Arabella the hugest thing on her mind. Bah humbug.
OOC: Ohmigosh, I'm so sorry I haven't responded yet. O.o

She pulled out her writing utensil and paper, and began scribbling around on the paper. She figured if nothing else, she could write her sister a letter. All her recent letters had been to Hannah and Kaitlyn...and she was sure that Samantha wanted to hear about how she was.
What to write, what to write...hmmm. Well, not like anything beyond exciting was happening in her world. She could make something up, but that wouls be dumb...and pointless.
It was easier to write to Hannah and Kaitlyn, they knew nothing of the magical world and she could write so much more. Samantha, though, had been to Beauxbatons, which was similar to Hogwarts, so there certainly were things that were a given to happen, and she certainly didn't want to bore her sister...
Or maybe Arabella just thought too much.
“Long time no see,” she said, crossing her arms. “Where you been, stranger?”
She smiled, hearing Lynn's voice. "Hah!" she said, setting her stuff aside and standing up to look at the girl. "I swear we're telepathic. Something told me you would be down here and look...here you are." she smiled, then looked shocked. "Lynn! This isn't my fault. Where have you been?"
She stood, looking at Lynn. Arabella could normally tell when something was wrong...she was her best friend, after all. "Hey...you look...like something's wrong. What's up?" she asked, curious.
Re: Meetings with a friend[2/11/09](ISO: Lynn)
Arabella seemed to be writing something – too much homework on the brain, perhaps? Or maybe letters … Lynn knew that her best friend had several sisters, and that she tried to keep in touch with them. Lynn was that way with her mum. After all, her mum was still one of her best friends, even now that she was in her teens. It was a precious gift, to have that with a parent. She tried not to take advantage of it.
"Hah!" she said, setting her stuff aside and standing up to look at the girl. "I swear we're telepathic. Something told me you would be down here and look...here you are."
“Maybe we’re both good candidates for the Thought Police,” Lynn said, thinking back to the classic she’d just finished reading. Whether or not Arabella realized the reference, it didn’t really matter. The meaning was clear enough as it was. She watched as her friend pasted a look of shock onto her face at Lynn’s admonishment for not having seen each other lately. She’d missed this.
"Lynn! This isn't my fault. Where have you been?"
“I’ve been … around,” Lynn said, a mischievous glint in her eye. What she didn’t add was who she’d been ‘around’ with. She’d been spending as much of her free time as possible lately with Sean. She couldn’t help it, he must have been magnetic. Opposite poles, or something to that effect. Even so, she had missed her friendly sparring and chatting back and forth with Arabella. There were some things that you couldn’t tell your boyfriend, no matter how close.
"Hey...you look...like something's wrong. What's up?" she asked, curious.
“Wrong?” Lynn put on a mock Canadian accent, drawing on her acting skills. “Whatever could be wrong? I’ve been having the time of my life this past while. You could say –“ She dropped the accent, glanced over her shoulder and then back at her friend. She wouldn’t drop Sean’s name, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t hint a bit. “You might say that I’ve been a bit involved with something – or someone – lately.” Lynn drew back with a wink. “A rather special someone.”
Re: Meetings with a friend[2/11/09](ISO: Lynn)“Maybe we’re both good candidates for the Thought Police,” Lynn said.
Arabella smiled a bit, not fully understanding the reference, but certainly catching the gist of it. "Of course we are...cause we're so awesome like that, you know?" she smiled.
“I’ve been … around,” Lynn said, a mischievous glint in her eye.
"Been around? Hah. I haven't seen you anywhere...how are things? I've missed talking to you." she said, happy she was there.
Nothing was happening in Arabella's life lately, definantly not. Classes, writing letters, and being bored. Certainly not a wonderful and eventful life..one that she was starting to think Lynn had found for herself.
“You might say that I’ve been a bit involved with something – or someone – lately.” Lynn drew back with a wink. “A rather special someone.”
She mock-gapsed at this, and grinned at Lynn. Oh my...a special someone. "I don't believe it!" she said simply, totally joking with her. "I'm the prettier one out of the two of us...surely I find the boyfriend before you do!" she scoffed, before laughing.
"Nah...that's great!" she said. "Now the question is..who is it? You have to tell me now. It's like, the law." she giggled again, eyes focused on Lynn, incredibly interested in who she could be talking about.
Re: Meetings with a friend[2/11/09](ISO: Lynn)"Of course we are...cause we're so awesome like that, you know?" she smiled. Lynn chuckled and took a seat in a pile of hay off to the side. Prickly though it was, it was preferable to hard wood at the moment. She took a piece out of her hair and then waited for her friend to continue, as she knew she would.
"Been around? Hah. I haven't seen you anywhere...how are things? I've missed talking to you."
Her face softening, Lynn aimed a gentler smile than the chesire-cat grin in her friend’s direction. She had missed her, too. They just hadn’t been able to grab hold of each other lately. “Things are … wonderful,” Lynn said, allowing a dreamy look to come into her eye. “It feels like everything is going right. Especially now, that we’ve got a chance to catch up. I’ve missed talking to you, too.”
"I don't believe it!" she said simply, totally joking with her. "I'm the prettier one out of the two of us...surely I find the boyfriend before you do!"
Raising an eyebrow, Lynn tossed a wad of hay at her friend, though she laughed along with her, knowing that it was meant as a joke. “Thanks a lot,” she said, grinning once more. “Since you brought it up, have you looked in a mirror lately? You might want to rethink that statement.” This teasing might have sounded cruel to anyone unlucky enough to listen in, but it had been a part of their friendship since the beginning. It wouldn’t be complete without the jibes both felt comfortable in departing upon the other.
"Nah...that's great!" she said. "Now the question is..who is it? You have to tell me now. It's like, the law."
“Well, then,” Lynn said, leaning back into the hay with her hands behind her head. “You know me. I love to break the law on occasion. So, unfortunately, this time you are going to have to wait. All I’m going to tell you is that we’re making our debut at the Valentine’s Day Ball … and you don’t get to know anything more than that. Except,” she continued, eyes twinkling, “That he’s near my height, absolutely gorgeous and the most gentlemanly and studious man I’ve ever met.”
Taking a deep breath, Lynn thought back on what she just said, and when she turned to look at Arabella again, the foolish look on her face had been replaced with one of softness … one of sincerity. This was a first for Lynn Stuart when regarding boys. It seemed that she had been encountering a lot of firsts lately.
“I really think that this might be it,” Lynn said softly, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. “All my other flings, they never meant anything. They never made me feel anything beyond the physical. But this … I think we might actually have something. I know I’m young, but you don’t have to be adult to feel l’amour, do you?”
Re: Meetings with a friend[2/11/09](ISO: Lynn)“It feels like everything is going right. Especially now, that we’ve got a chance to catch up. I’ve missed talking to you, too.”
She smiled at Lynn's comment. "Though you know me, your best friend the lifeless loser, over here.." she teased. "Nah, really. Nothing out of the ordinary. School, friends, writing letters back home. Sometimes boarding schools are so lame." she commented.
“Since you brought it up, have you looked in a mirror lately? You might want to rethink that statement.”
Arabella knew Lynn well enough that she certainly was joking, something their friendship had been known for. She could honestly say anything as a joke to her...she can call her ugly, and Lynn would totally play along. When she heard her to tell her to look in the mirror, she fake gasped and scowled at her, tossing her hair out of her face, totally playing it off.
"Well as if you're one to talk...honestly, Lynn..the nose...say it with me...plastic SURGERY!" she was serious, before she started to giggle a little. "Oh Lynnie."
“That he’s near my height, absolutely gorgeous and the most gentlemanly and studious man I’ve ever met.”
Arabella giggled at this. "Well then, that certainly eliminates a lot of people around here...seriously." she shook her head, smiling, as she looked back to her friend. "Good God, Lynn...this is me you're talking to! You must spill! It's not like I'm going to tell anyone..." she teased.
"And...I think you're old enough. I mean, okay granted it was a tragedy, but didn't Romeo and Juliet meet when they were young. Like..fourteen? You already have a year or so on them!" she grinned. Hey, it's not like she believed Lynn would kill herself over this boy, so there was no harm in comparing it to one of Shakespear's great works.
Re: Meetings with a friend[2/11/09](ISO: Lynn)"Though you know me, your best friend the lifeless loser, over here.." she teased. "Nah, really. Nothing out of the ordinary. School, friends, writing letters back home. Sometimes boarding schools are so lame."
Lynn didn’t think so, really; to be honest, Lynn rather liked being at a boarding school like Hogwarts, even though she tended to miss her mum terribly. There was something rather pleasant about not having parents look over her shoulder every other moment. She’d certainly had her fair share of adventures with boys.
"Well as if you're one to talk...honestly, Lynn..the nose...say it with me...plastic SURGERY!" she was serious, before she started to giggle a little. "Oh Lynnie."
Grinning, Lynn reclined in the hay until she was looking up at the wooden rafters. “Oh, I’m sorry, did you say skin doctor? I think I might’ve seen one around, should I tell him to schedule an appointment for you?” Shaking her head, she let out a chuckle. This was why she didn’t limit herself to having one ‘best’ friend. She had a few, and she loved it that way. Arabella was wonderful for getting into trouble, gabbing and other girl stuff. Sean, she could confide in. And … well, she wasn’t going to get into that other fellow right now.
"Well then, that certainly eliminates a lot of people around here...seriously."
“It does, at that,” Lynn said, smiling as she thought of her boyfriend. She was already counting down the hours until the day that they would no longer have to keep their relationship a secret. "Good God, Lynn...this is me you're talking to! You must spill! It's not like I'm going to tell anyone..."
Since it seemed like her friend had more to say, Lynn waited.
"And...I think you're old enough. I mean, okay granted it was a tragedy, but didn't Romeo and Juliet meet when they were young. Like..fourteen? You already have a year or so on them!"
“You’re right,” Lynn said. “I know you’re right. If what we have is the real thing, and I think it is, then … it is,” she finished lamely. Turning to look at her friend across the room, Lynn allowed a serious expression to come upon her face. “So you must see why I can’t tell you yet. This is different, Bella. This isn’t just another closet snogging fest that we can laugh and joke about. I want to treat it better than that, you know?” She smiled. “He and I promised each other that we would keep it a secret until the ball, and that’s what we’re going to do. You understand, right?”
