Moagara, brief history
The native population (the Moagarii) of the rolling hills and fertile river valleys of this land were conquered by the Lunar Empire around eighty years prior to the present day. At that time the Empire was experiencing one of its expansionistic periods, crafted by the ruthless and industrious Emperor Kqalai IV. Moagara, rich in iron ore, lumber and precious metals, became a focus of Imperial development. Several of the permanent legion encampments became thriving centers of trade, attracting speculators and commerce from all over the Empire. The presence of the Raven and Tall Forest Legions drove back the lurking creatures of Chaos from the coastline and the rivers long enough for dozens of work camps to spring up across the country.

In time the power of the Lunar Empire waned once again, and the legions departed to pursue the whim of the Emperor in some distant part of the world. Local chieftains had maintained control of their lands under the watchful eyes of Imperial magistrates, but depended on the Legions for protection. Without the regular patrols of the rightly feared professional soldiers the creeping influence of Chaos began to rise.

At first the more distant outposts and labor camps disappeared, consumed by wild Broo tribes, or Shadows, or who knows what. Slowly, the darkness of Chaos grew stronger, pushing the edges of Imperial civilization back to the sea. Those self-sufficient towns and villages that could defend themselves became increasingly isolated until the Moagarii rearmed themselves and accepted responsibility for their own defense and prosperity.

Although many of the settlements - created to feed the Empire's hunger for metal - that the Legions had been able to carve out of the wilderness were lost, the Moagari rose again as a free people and drove back the cunning dangers of Chaos. Now exists an uneasy equilibrium between the Moagari and the dark savagery of the Wild Lands.
