Musing (Stella)

Hawthorne had wandered back down to the Waterfall. She had just met with young Lucas, and was quite amused. He was a sweet, open sort of fella, and she really hoped that he would end up with Stella.

Speaking of Stella, Hawthorne hadn't seen her in a few days. She wondered where the white haired girl had gotten to. She looked around the serene place, fidgeting with her skirt. She was rather uncomfortable in it.

Still, it wasn't the worst thing she'd ever worn. She sat down on a rock, and gazed up into the sky. The sun was just setting over the top of the waterfallm and it was really pretty. She was rather enjoying the whole situation. The only thing that could make this better was the company of a good friend.

Re: Musing (Stella)
It was a lovely afternoon; warmer then it had been in weeks. Stella knew it would be a perfect night for star gazing but the school roof was usually so crowed, so she had gone back to the waterfall her and Jun-Bo had had so much fun at.

The sun was just setting, and cast a beautiful reflection into the pool at the base of the waterfall. But someone was already here. Stella approached slowly, not wishing to startle anyone.

She was wearing a simple dark blue cotton dress that fitted well, and would not get dirty if she wanted to lie down and watch the stars. She reached the person at the waterfall, and her eyes brightened when she recognised the girl.

“Hawthorn!” she had not seen her since the game in the springs. “I hope I am not disturbing you,” she said hastily, remembering Hawthorn got a bit nervous around people. “Isn’t it a wonderful night?” she took in Hawthorn’s outfit and smiled. “You look so pretty.”

“Hawthorn!”
“I hope I am not disturbing you,”

She startled a bit. Though she had mused on the possibility, she hadn't actually expected anyone to show up. Most people didn't come out this late. She turned, and a huge smile broke across her face when she saw who it was.

"Stella! Your not disturbing me at all. Welcome. I haven't seen you in an age."

“Isn’t it a wonderful night?”

"It's definitely going to be a lovely one. I'm very content."

“You look so pretty.”

She hadn't expected the last statement, but she smiled, her eyes going all soft and misty-eyed. The girl was just too sweet for words. She would be a perfect match for dear Lucas.

"Thank you Stella, you look rather nice this evening as well."

Of course, it wasn't hard for Stella to look lovely. She was very beautiful, and her white hair was just so unique. Hawthorne just wished she was a quarter that pretty.

Stella smiled brightly. Hawthorn did not seem to mind her presence at all, for which she was glad. She sat down near the girl, noticing that in the fading light, all of the little rings and studs Hawthorn had in her face and ears were sparkling.

"Not since that day at the springs, I think." Stella added, remembering. It seemed to have been at least a week since that day. Time went by so fast! She sat down near Hawthorn, watching the sun slipping behind the waterfall.

"I am glad to hear that Hawthorn," Stella said in reply to the coment about being content. "How have you been since we saw each other last?" she turned from the blaze of orange and pink to look at the girl.

Stella looked down at her dress and back up. "I wanted to wear something cozy, in case it got cold. I'm planning on watching the stars for a bit." she smiled again. "Would you like to star gaze with me?"

"Not since that day at the springs, I think."

Hawthorne nodded, thinking back to that . . . interesting event. She had not been very comfortable in the situation, though she had understood more of what was going on than Stella did. She leaned back slightly, watching the sunset. She loved the colours of it, they felt like home. How many times had her and Lily watched the sun go down? She sighed, missing her sister a little.

"I am glad to hear that Hawthorn,"
"How have you been since we saw each other last?"

"I've been all right, met a lot of people. I met your new roommate in fact, Stella. He was quite a handsome fella."

That was Hawthorne testing the waters. She wanted to get a feel for Stella's opinions on the boy, before she went into full-force matchmaker mode. She wouldn't reveal anything he had told her, unless it would help his case with the white-haired beauty.

"I wanted to wear something cozy, in case it got cold. I'm planning on watching the stars for a bit."
"Would you like to star gaze with me?"

A dress wasn't exactly Hawthorne's idea of cozy, but it took all sorts to make the world go round. She smiled at Stella, thinking that her offer was a fabulous idea.

"I'd love to stargaze with you. There's nothing quite so beautiful or inspiring as a nightsky studed with those tiny twinkling lights."

Musing (Stella)
The glow of the sunset was reaching its dramatic conclusion, an explosion of rose and saffron light. Stella watched as the water droplets that splashed up from the waterfall caught the fading light and reflected it. Then the sun slowly sunk below the crest of the waterfall and out of sight.

Stella watched Hawthorn as she thought of the Hot springs. That had been an interesting experience for her, one she was not sure she wanted to repeat. Stella was very fond of both Sakura and Jun-Bo, but when those two where together the air seemed to crackle with tension.

Then Hawthorn mentioned Lucas and Stella stopped thinking about Jun-Bo and Sakura. Stella tore her eyes away from the waterfall and looked at Hawthorn earnestly.

“Yes, I thought so to. But then I thought maybe just because the only boys I have met before were a Drow and the boy who’s now my brother. But you think he is handsome?” Stella realised she had been going on a bit and bit her lip. “Sorry. So when did you meet him?”

She stretched out on the grass as the sky began to darken, her arms beneath her head. At Hawthorn’s comment she sighed and nodded. “My sentiments exactly.”

Hawthorne nodded, and then realised that Stella was watching the sky, so she cleared her throat so that she could speak again.

""I do think he is handsome, if your into the Byronic romantic look. Not exactly my cuppa tea, but I can appreciate a handsome from regardless if it's my style or not."

She grinned, poor Stella. She seemed to be a little taken with Lucas as well. How . . . interesting. Hawthorne could foster this feeling, no problem.

“Sorry. So when did you meet him?”

She smiled at the girl's awkwardness. Definitely stage one infatuation. She had to paint this picture very carefully, to show Lucas in just the right light.

"I met him earlier this afternoon, down in Niagra Park. He was sitting on his own, reading Romeo and Juliet. For fun, not for schoolwork. It looked like he had been practising his music earlier as well, since he had his instrument case with him."

Hawthorne stretched out on the grass beside Stella, holding her breath in anticipation of the very first hope-filled twinkles of the night sky.

Now the sun had set the sky was darkening rapidly, the sky turning from bright blue to cobolt and then to deep blue. Pin pricks of white light began to glow softly, like diamonds against velvet. As the stars began to glow, Stella's skin started to shine soft silver. She sighed when she noticed, brushing her dress down over her legs.

"What is the Byronic romantic look?" She asked, looking over at the girl now laying beside her but thinking about when Lucas had given her that red rose as thanks for letting him be her room mate.

Romeo and Juliet? Stella sighed. She loved Shakespeare. Her uncle had used to comapare himself and her to Prospero and Miranda in The Tempest. "Yes, he showed me. It was a..." She bit her lip as she tried to remember the name, "a Saxophone. He played for me. He's very good!" She turned to look back up at the sky.

"So, can I ask what you talked to him about?" Stella asked, her curiosity sparked.

"What is the Byronic romantic look?"

Hawthorne turned to look at Stella, and noticed that the girl was glowing. She mentally shrugged, the stargazer was prolly uncomfortable enough about the situation, she wouldn't be mean and point it out to the girl.

"You know, he kinda reminds me of the whole tortured poet, unappreciated artist thing. It's one of those sad-sweet airs, not a bit emo, because there is true creativity behind it. Besides, the starving artist is often happier than the richer half of the world."

"Yes, he showed me. It was a..."
"a Saxophone. He played for me. He's very good!"

He was very good indeed, serenading the lady in the comfort of her own rooms. Hawthorne wondered what he had played for her, since that would have bearing on whether or not Lucas was socially enept when it came to the ladies' or not.

"What did he play for you? Anything that I would recognize, or something that he made up himself?"

"So, can I ask what you talked to him about?"

"Hmm, well lets see. I met Jon, that was an interesting fella. We talked about his likes and dislikes a little, and we talked about, well . . . you, Stella."

Stella thought about this. Lucas had been very polite, nice, and had reacted very well to Jun-Bo's questions. Was that a sad-sweet air? And what was an emo? But she could agree at least with the last bit. He had seemed to be a true artist, somthing her uncle had told her was as rare as rocking horse dung.

"I guess so. I mean, he was quite quiet. I had to be the talkative one when we met." She smiled. "Thats pretty unusual for me." she was still hopeing he would be a bit more willing to talk as they got to know each other. While she did not mind talking, she was still worried she would say the wrong thing.

"What did he play for you? Anything that I would recognize, or something that he made up himself?"

"He did not say. It was very nice though..." Stella said quietly, more to herself then to Hawthorn. "I do not know much about Saxophone music. I liked it though."

"Hmm, well lets see. I met Jon, that was an interesting fella. We talked about his likes and dislikes a little, and we talked about, well . . . you, Stella."

Stella smiled, remembering the little soldier. That had been very interesting for her. Then the last thing Hawthorn said sunk in, and Stella's cheeks darkened to pink. He had talked about her?

"What? I mean.... why?" She gasped, turning to face Hawthorn.

"I guess so. I mean, he was quite quiet. I had to be the talkative one when we met."

That wasn't hard to immagine, Stella was being talkative right now, after all. Hawthorne was really impressed with the glowing girl actually. Perhaps the darkness of the night sky made her a little bolder, or maybe it was the topic of conversation . . .

"Thats pretty unusual for me."

Thorny thought back to the first time she had met Stella. The girl had approached her and Jun-Bo in the garden. That was back when she had thought the two of them would be an item. Not anymore though, there was very little chance remaining of that.

"He did not say. It was very nice though..."
"I do not know much about Saxophone music. I liked it though."

Hawthorne was willing to bet it was something he had written himself, maybe on the spot. She made a mental note to ask the boy if he was a scatter, that would be pretty wicked. Those fellas could really whail.

"What? I mean.... why?"

"Relax Stella. If you wanna blame anyone, blame me. I brought up the subject. Just call me a nosy meddler. I am, on the other hand, supposed to oh-so-subtly decipher whether or not you like Lucas enough to go on a date with him though . . ."

Stella froze. A date? With Lucas? She tried to imagine it... It would be a disaster! She would have no idea what to do! What if she said something that made it impossible to talk to him? He was her room mate, if it became discomfited between them it would be too unpleasant for words.

“I like him, I mean I think I do.” She said slowly, wanting Hawthorn to understand where she was coming from. “I’ve never felt like I’ve liked someone before, so I might be getting this wrong. But I’ve never been on a date. I would be too scared of messing things up.” She sighed, looking up at the sky. “He’s a nice guy. He needs a girl who actually knows what she is doing around guys. I don’t want to hurt him.”

“I like him, I mean I think I do.”

Hawthorne nodded. She thought that Stella liked him as well, seeing as how she was acting about the whole scenario. The grey-eyed girl grinned at the glowy girl, that was a good place to start.

“I’ve never felt like I’ve liked someone before, so I might be getting this wrong. But I’ve never been on a date. I would be too scared of messing things up.”

Thorny sighed. Now that was ridiculous. No one ever truly understood how to interract with the opposite gender, everything was a little hit and miss. You just had to take it slow and see where things led from there.

“He’s a nice guy. He needs a girl who actually knows what she is doing around guys. I don’t want to hurt him.”

"Stella, I'm not sure what to say to you to change your mind about this, but Lucas is a really great guy, and he thinks very highly of you. It's not about knowing what your doing around guys, its about knowing how to get along with one guy. Go on a few dates just as friends first, try to see if you're compatable. I bet if you spend time together, you'll realize you know exactly what to say to him."

Stella blushed again, one hand rising her her mouth. She had met him once, that she had left him feeling thusly was more then she could have hoped. Looking back, Stella thought she had been almost jumpy, wanting to keep him talking, wanting him to linger there. She nibbled her lower lip again.

"It's not about knowing what your doing around guys, its about knowing how to get along with one guy."

"That makes sense," she whispered, turning to look at Hawthorn again. She had te idea the girl was a little disapointed with her reaction, and wanted to fix that. "And we did seem to get along well, but Jun-Bo came in so soon it was hard to say." There was no blame in her voice, or anoyance. She was just stating a fact.

"Go on a few dates just as friends first, try to see if you're compatable. I bet if you spend time together, you'll realize you know exactly what to say to him."

"Do you really think so?" Stella sked, her voice full of hope. "But maybe if a group of us went out, incase he got bored just talking to me." Once again, her tone was matter of fact. "Would that work, do you think?" Her blue eyes were hopeful.

Re: Musing (Stella)

Very carefully, Hawthorne noted all the subtle movements that Stella was making. The blushing, covering her mouth, nibbling on her lip. The other girl was definitely showing all the signs of infatuation. Thorny hoped the best for her glowing friend and Lucas, the pair would be so adorable!

"That makes sense,"

She wasn't so sure why the other teen was whispering, but maybe it was all the emotional nature of the conversation. Thorne was even speaking lower than her usual voice, prolly in an attempt to put Stella at ease.

"And we did seem to get along well, but Jun-Bo came in so soon it was hard to say."

"Ahh, that makes sense. You don't want to make too much of a scene around your big brother, he might give Lucas a royal grilling."

Hawthorne was smiling at the image. Jun-Bo was enough to scare any fella away, though he had told her that Lucas was the only guy he had met so far that he would consider allowing Stella to date. Idly she wondered if Sakura had encountered the poor boy yet . . .

"Do you really think so?"
"But maybe if a group of us went out, incase he got bored just talking to me."
"Would that work, do you think?"

"I do really think so. And, not that I think he would get bored just talking to you, but a group date would be a great way to break the ice. It's relatively pressure-free, after all."

"Ahh, that makes sense. You don't want to make too much of a scene around your big brother, he might give Lucas a royal grilling."

Dispite the confusion thinking about her roomate always caused her, Stella had to laugh at that comment. The sound was soft, Hawthorn might not have even heard it.

"He already did. As soon as Lucas moved in. He stepped in to ask me if I wanted to go out for lunch, then stayed to meet my new room mate."

Stella smiled to herself as she remembered. It had made her feel so... special, to think that someone would want to make sure her room mate was a decent human being. Stella knew Jun-Bo thought her 'trust everyone' approch was unsafe, and he reminded her of her uncle when he was protective. Stella had lived her whole live being shelterd, it all seemed natural to her.

"I do really think so. And, not that I think he would get bored just talking to you, but a group date would be a great way to break the ice. It's relatively pressure-free, after all."

Stella sighed. Pressure-free? This was all so complicated and strange. Just the thought of her saying something inappropriate or odd in front of Lucas made her want to lock herself in her room. Add more people into the equation and she would be better off just catching the next flight home.

"Hawthorne, Lucas is a very nice boy. I'm sure he was just being nice when you mentioned me. I mean..."

Stella's voice died off. She did not want to go on in case it sounded like she wanted pity nor did she know how to put into words the idea that Lucas was mearly being polite, or kind or that it was all because he just felt sorry for the poor orphane girl, locked away for her childhood and compleatly ignorant of what was going on around her.
