June 1st - June 19th
It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.
No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]
What a week. That’s all that Eli could ever say to sum it up. People were turning out to be downright idiotic. The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts department must have been having a terrible time with it all. People attacking muggles by enchanting muggle devices to attack other muggles. The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts came in to restore the muggle’s memories and deal with them, but the Aurors had to hunt down the people themselves, and make sure justice was served.
If another person made a regurgitating toilet that had a tendency to swallow people, Eli was probably going to kill himself. What was the bloody trend with those nowadays anyways? Eli was supposed to be a dark wizard catcher, and Auror. Not some daycare assistant that slaps little boys on the hands when they don’t play nice with their peers. But they hadn’t heard much from the Death Eaters since December, which was always a good sign, but it was quite frightening all the same. It was like a calm before the storm. They were biding their time while formulating vindictive and terrible plans to wreak havoc on the wizarding world. And it was up to the Aurors to find them and stop them. Was Eli ready to take on such responsibility?
Yes. That was what he had been waiting for all along, wasn’t it? Yes. He had trained for it, he had put in the hours, hell, he would have even sold his soul for it. Eli found great passion in his profession, and knowing that, he could sleep soundly at night with no thoughts of regret toward his life. He was doing what made him happy. Sure there were a couple of blanks that would have been nice if they were filled in, but he couldn’t sit there and complain about trivial details like not having some sexy sweetheart sleeping next to him every night, or not being able to see his family as much as he wanted to. He and Angelina still kept contact by mail, and Eli loved to visit his nephew (well, cousin technically, but the technicalities in Eli’s family were rather skewed and disturbed) Avery, who was going on nine years old that year.
But now, Eli was taking his lunch break to go down to Hogsmeade and get a drink to unwind a bit after the last regurgitating toilet scam. He hoped the afternoon wouldn’t hold anymore surprises of the petty sort, and that they could actually get down to business. Ministry jail cells (which were home to the people that didn’t commit crimes heinous enough to go to Azkaban) were filling up rather quickly with people that were sentenced there for a night, a week, a month or two... It was starting to get ridiculous.
Taking his usual seat at the bar in The Three Broomsticks, Eli winked at Madam Rosmerta as she quickly sent a bottle of butterbeer his way. Ah yes. Nothing like a non-alcoholic drink to ease the tension of the day.

Re: No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]
Another Hogsmeade weekend. Students were crawling around everywhere, grabbing drinks with their friends and weaving in and out of the various stores, buying all the great and somewhat odd things that the town had to offer. Some of the students travelled in groups, others in pairs. But there were very few students who wandered around by themselves. Usually, the students of Hogsmeade either hung out with their friends or a significant other. Unfortunately, Cory no longer had a significant other and well, she was in no mood to deal with her friends. She'd ditched them at the sweet shop and wandered the streets of Hogsmeade by herself, observing her peers and going on with her duties as Head Girl. But at the same time, Cory did think it somewhat important to enjoy herself, though she wasn't sure whether that was possible. She'd been in such a lousy mood lately and there really wasn't much room for her to prance around in joyous reverie. Well, even when she was in a good mood, Cory didn't prance, but now she was even less likely to do so.
Dragging herself through Hogsmeade, Cory aimlessly walked, not really noticing much. The snow was finally starting to melt and the slush was beginning to disappear. The clouds looked like they might actually part, giving a glimps of the sun, but that wasn't likely. It was still technically winter after all, and in Britain, winter was always the season that liked to assert itself. And thus most of the students were still wearing their hats, scarves, and gloves. Cory herself had dressed warmly, wearing a sweater and her Gryffindor scarf. She wore gloves on her hands, but her head was void of a hat. The Gryffindor wasn't really a big fan of hats and usually just left it up to her hair to keep her head warm.
When Cory finally started to register things again, she noticed that she'd instinctively walked over to the Three Broomsticks. Luckily, students were allowed in that day and Cory numbly entered, glancing around as she did so. There were a few tables filled with twittering students and their were a few lone witches and wizards sitting around, too. Cory recongized some of the students, but she wasn't really in the mood to mingle. She just wanted to sit down, have a butterbeer and stew in her mix of anger and misery. She'd never expected to feel this way after she'd broken it off with Tucker. Cory had thought she would be fine with it and would just move on with her life, but she couldn't help but feel betrayed and at the same time sad. It was really over. It seemed like their courtship had lasted forever and their time together had been a while as well. But just like that, it had ended, and not pleasantly either. In fact, it had been quiet fiery and passionate -- not how Cory wanted to end things.
But that's how things had gone and it wasn't as though Cory could have done much. Sure, she could have just forgiven Tucker, but that was too much to ask of Cory. After all, he'd made such a big deal out of her sleeping with Tony when he had, in fact, slept with a girl that very same summer. And with that girl, it had been the equivelant of a one night stand. Now, Cory wasn't proud of the fact that she'd slept with her childhood friend, but at least there had been good reason behind it. At least she actually knew more about Tony than just his name. She wanted to just forgive Tucker, but after all that had happened, it was impossible. She couldn't just smile, shrug, and say "oh well". No, that wasn't how things went down. Maybe later Cory would forgive Tucker, just as she'd forgiven him before, but right now she needed her space. She needed to stay as far away from Tucker Pence as was humanly possible.
"Butterbeer, please," Cory called out as she sat down on a stool at the bar. She hardly realized that the seat next to hers was occupied. At least not until she'd gotten her butterbeer and taken a sip. The young man sitting next to her was fairly attractive and probably only a little older than Cory herself. If she wasn't feeling so down, she might have tried to flirt, but right now, she wasn't in a flirty mode. And besides, the guy didn't look like he was in a mood for light chatter either. "Having a crappy day, too?" Cory asked instead, taking another sip of her butterbeer.
Re: No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]
Eli was a bit too occupied in his thoughts, trying to get all of his negative feelings and emotions drained out of him before he went back to work. He didn't want to enter the Auror headquarters still in a rotten mood. No, he had to go with a smile on his face, ready to handle more pretty, pointless problems. That was Eli's reputation. That was what he had to maintain every single day of the year. But why did it really matter that much? He had been doing it all of his life. Ignoring his problems, and putting a smile on his face whether he wanted to punch a hole through the wall or not. Yes, purge the bad feelings. Allow the butterbeer to enter the system, and take all the feelings and urges of hatred toward his job away. His job was his release. He loved his job. He just really didn't like regurgitating toilets.
"Butterbeer, please," a voice called out as a young woman took a seat at the bar next to him. Eli instantly felt a bit better, just from looking at her. As terrible as it was, she was rather attractive, and being in the company of an attractive female could always make a guy feel better. At least a little bit, right? Yes. At least a little bit. Maybe he could make some conversation with her, have someone to talk to, not feel so bad about everything that was going on. Oh, but she probably didn't want to hear him vent about his pathetic regurgitating toilet problems. It looked like she wasn't too pleased herself. "Having a crappy day, too?" the girl asked, seemingly speaking to Eli.
Eli was pleasantly surprised that she had addressed him, but there was no way he was ever going to complain about such a thing. She had just made things extremely easy for him. Maybe misery liked company. Maybe she wanted to hear about how crummy his day was so she didn't feel like hers was all that bad. Or didn't feel like she was alone for that matter. "Not crappy, per se," Eli started in response. "Just a little bit...rocky." He explained. Perhaps telling her about his dilemma would make her laugh a bit. People did tend to find it funny when he explained about the regurgitating toilets. It wasn't funny to him, because he was one of the people busting his arse to try and clean everything up. It was a lot more of a hassle than it should have been.
"People just keep enchanting muggle toilets to regurgitate and such, and I've been chasing the miscreants around all morning," Eli explained, hoping he might get at least a smile out of her. "I'm Eli by the way," he said, holding his hand out to her for her to shake. "Eli Goodwyn."
"The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve."
Re: No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]
The butterbeer tasted good as Cory drank it down. Of course, it didn't really help her all too much and it was times like this that Cory wished she was into drinking and all of that stuff. But she wasn't and preferred to keep away from alcohol unless it was really necessary and the occasion was good. Despite how she felt, this didn't seem like a good time to drink and besides, it wasn't as if she could get anything anyway. While Cory may have looked older, people still knew she was a Hogwarts students and she also wasn't about to set a bad example for the rest of the populace. So she just kept to her butterbeer, trying to forget about all the stuff that had been happening and just focused on the fact that in a few more months, she would be out of Hogwarts. At the beginning of the year, she'd felt a bit sad about leaving Hogwarts, but now she just wanted out. She wanted to be able to go to Auror training and just forget about all the stuff that caused her trouble before. She just wanted to move on with her life and do what she had to to get closer to her goal in life: to become an Auror.
But unfortunately, Cory had no power over time and couldn't fast forward even if she wanted to. At least right now, it wasn't as if she was completely hating life. The presence of a handsome man was enough to make things a tad better.
"Not crappy, per se," the young man started in response. "Just a little bit...rocky." Cory nodded, understanding his meaning. "People just keep enchanting muggle toilets to regurgitate and such, and I've been chasing the miscreants around all morning," he explained, and just as he had been hoping, Cory grinned a bit. Part of the reason was because well, it was funny, but there was also the fact that the man intersted Cory even more now. From what he said, it was clear that he worked for the Ministry, but it sounded like he was an Auror to boot. If he was, well, Cory would call this an omen if she ever saw one. There she was, wishing she could be an Auror right at that second and instead she meets a very attractive one. While it wasn't quite the same, it was almost as if the world was encouraging her to continue on her path to becoming an Auror and a handsome young man would be waiting for her at the end of that path. Or in the middle somewhere. "I'm Eli by the way," he said, holding his hand out to her for her to shake. "Eli Goodwyn."
"Cory Weiss," the Gryffindor responded, shaking the young man's hand. Wow. Another Auror. How convenient was that? Maybe she could extract some information from him or something, since Cory was sure things had changed a bit since her mother had been an Auror. "Well, I do hope you caught those toilet-enchanting miscreants, or else who knows what this world will come to?" Cory joked lightly with a grin. Well, she was definitely feeling in a better mood. "So I assume you're an Auror?" Cory then asked, curious to know the truth. While it would have been nice if he really was an Auror, it wouldn't be quite as cool if she went on thinking he was an Auror when he really wasn't.
Re: No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]
Just as Eli had been hoping, a grin came across Cory's face as he explained his issues of the day. A similar look came across his face, glad that he could at least make someone else in all their misery feel a bit better. There. Making her feel good made Eli feel good, so the world made sense after all. That's what people were put there on the world together for. To nurture each other and work off one another to create happiness and equilibrium.
"Cory Weiss," the girl replied, shaking Eli's hand. Eli was starting to get giddy inside just thinking that he had luck enough to run into a charming girl like Cory during his lunch break. Things like this didn't happen very often. How had he never seen Cory before? Was she still a Hogwarts student? No...she couldn't be. She looked much older than that. If anything, she had to be a seventh year, but it just didn't seem to fit. Well, the fact that Hogwarts students were milling all over Hogwarts that day fit, but her physical appearance didn't. With that, Eli concluded that she had to be older than seventeen or eighteen. Maybe two or three years out of Hogwarts. Yes, that would make perfect sense.
Merlin, Hogwarts. That seemed so bloody long ago. Even if he had graduated just five (or was it six? He couldn't remember) years before, it felt as if he hadn't walked through the castle in an eternity. Things hadn't been going too well up at the castle as of late, but most recently the students were all safe and sound from what he had heard. And he heard a lot on that topic of discussion. He was and Auror. It was his job to know the dark and dirty deeds that were going on behind the Ministry's back.
"Well, I do hope you caught those toilet-enchanting miscreants, or else who knows what this world will come to?" Cory joked with a grin, making Eli laugh in entertainment. Taking another sip of butterbeer, he watched Cory, still trying to mentally deduce how old she was without asking her. His current guess was twenty. Twenty was a good age for a female like this one. An attractive one. Not too young that Eli would feel like it was cradle robbery, but still younger. Younger was always very attractive if you asked Eli. But then again thinking about picking up a date on his lunch break probably wasn't the most practical thing in the world. But hey, if they hit it off, maybe they could plan to go on another lunch date, right? Always a lunch date, though, for it implied that the male in question was interested in getting to know the female, rather than just getting her in bed.
"So I assume you're an Auror?" Cory asked, watching Eli with a sort of interest on her face. A smile tugged at the corners of Eli's lips at her intrigue, swelling with pride regarding his profesion.
"Yes I am. Defending the world against regurgitating toilets for two years now," Eli said with a laugh. Wow, only two years. It seemed like he'd been an Auror for ages, but that would probably account for the three years of training that all Aurors had to undergo before they entered into the field.
"So what brings you here all by your lonesome today?" Eli questioned, hoping some sort of answer about her profession or age would come from it. If not, at least it was light conversation.
"The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve."
Re: No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]
The sense that meeting Eli during this time of chaos was destiny or fate or whatever was increasing within Cory as the two continued to sit with each other. He was a very attractive fellow, not to mention an Auror and well, he was distracting Cory from all that she had had to worry about before. While Cory was a bit ashamed to admit that she needed a distraction from being angry/sad about the whole Tucker situation, she was sort of relieved that Eli was here to take her mind off of everything. But she had a feeling even if she wasn't trying to clear her mind of everything that happeend of the late she would still be very much attracted to this young man. He was charming, handsome, and an Auror, which increased Cory's attraction to him by tenfold. Well, maybe not that much, but it certainly helped and made Cory all the more eager to get to know him. Of course, she wasn't sure how old he was or if he was even telling the truth about his occupation, but Cory had a feeling he was telling the truth. The age issue was slightly different, seeing as since he was an Auror, he had to at least be twenty-one or twenty-two, which was about three or fours years older than Cory, who was turning eighteen in May.
Eighteen. In a few months she would be legal and officially and adult. It was somewhat of a scary thought, but Cory wasn't the least bit afraid. She was sure she could handle whatever responsibilities she was given and would perform them to the fullest. She wouldn't be intimidated by anything and would just go with whatever she had to do. If she wanted to be an Auror, she couldn't be unsure of herself after all. Caution was good, for caution kept people alive, but one had to have confidence in themselves if they wanted to help protect other people, and Cory certainly wasn't lacking in that department. Already, she could be considered an adult both mentally and physically, but just not legally. The Head Girl wasn't sure what she'd do when she was eighteen (she really wasn't the type to drink a lot so she probably would go out and buy a bunch of booze as she was sure Armand had done), but at least the knowledge that she was an adult would be enough for her.
"Yes I am. Defending the world against regurgitating toilets for two years now," Eli responded to Cory's assumption that he was an Auror. Well, if he'd been an Auror for two years and Auror training was three years, he was five years out of Hogwarts, which meant he was five years older than Cory. The age difference wasn't all that massive, but it still did manage to make Cory feel a bit girlish. Within Hogwarts, she was the oldest and the wisest (aside from the professors) and she always felt so much more mature than the other students. But now that she was in the presence of someone who was living in the real world, Cory felt so much smaller. She was still trying to make her way through Hogwarts while this Eli Goodwyn was already fighting crime in the Wizarding World, and for two years, even. It was almost hard to imagine for Cory. For seven years, school had been her life and in a few more months she wouldn't be at Hogwarts anymore.
Merlin. She was getting old.
"So what brings you here all by your lonesome today?"
That was the question, wasn't it? And this was the moment for Cory, in turn to reveal her age. Of course, did she really want to? Most girls liked to pretend they were older than they were and while Cory didn't want to appear like a child to this young man, she didn't want to lie either. Most likely, he would find out anyway, and that would be even more embarassing than telling him straight up to begin with. Besides, despite their flirtatious conversation, it wasn't like either of them really expected anything to happen, right? Well, Cory wasn't sure whether or not she was prepared to answer that question as of yet, but she was sure Eli would keep any possible ideas in his head once he found out she was still a student at Hogwarts. While men often liked younger women, they probably didn't want women that young.
"I'm just here with the rest of my immature and overly-excitable peers," Cory replied with a wry grin. "Hogsmeade weekend. I was planning on not going, but the Head Girl's got responsibilities, I suppose." She shrugged, taking another sip of her butterbeer. She wondered whether Eli would back off or something, now that he knew her real age. No, he didn't seem like the type to be so obvious about such things.
Re: No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]
Eli was immensely enjoying his lunch break. Imagine, going back to the office refreshed after meeting a fine and lovely young lady, and bragging to all his colleagues that he would be able to handle the regurgitating toilets without breaking into a sweat for the rest of the day! They would all be griping and complaining about each new case, but Eli would be happily humming away, thinking about the next time he would come across Cory Weiss. He would see her again, right? Even if they only talked some small talk over a butterbeer, Eli did want to ask her out again, right? Merlin, he was getting ahead of himself. He didn't even know how old she was, what her profession was, or anything. She could have been married for all he knew! A quick glance at her ring finger told him she wasn't, but all the same. She could have some tall, dark and handsome boyfriend to meet later on. He couldn't run off with his imagination.
"I'm just here with the rest of my immature and overly-excitable peers," Cory replied with a wry grin. Peers? Did that imply... No way. She looked much older than that! "Hogsmeade weekend. I was planning on not going, but the Head Girl's got responsibilities, I suppose." Eli swallowed his butterbeer, allowing the foaming liquid to slide down into hsi stomach while he sat a bit dumbfounded on his bar stool. She was only seventeen or eighteen! Didn't that count as cradle robbery? He was twenty three years old! But she didn't look, or ACT, like she was still at Hogwarts. Now that just wasn't fair.
"Head Girl?" Eli asked with a grin, blowing all of the thoughts out of his mind. He wasn't going to let something like age get in his way. It didn't matter, right? Angelina was years and years older than him and she was still one of his best friends. "Impressive. I was Head Boy in my year. Scored it by sheer luck," he said with a laugh, taking another sip of butterbeer. It was true. His only way to cope with personal issues was to study. He had just been lucky as to when a few girlfriends of his had made his life miserable. It had all worked out for the better in the end, right? Indeed it had.
But Merlin, that threw a wrench in Eli's plans. He couldn't exactly ask her out again because there was no guarantee as to when she would be able to come back to Hogsmeade. Didn't Hogwarts students only get one Hogsmeade weekend a month? He couldn't tie himself down to one girl for the next month. Not that going on a casual date was being tied down, but he didn't want to have all of his eggs in one basket if there wasn't any guarantee that it could turn into something. Why was he looking for something long term with Cory anyways? He had just met her! He knew nothing about her, just that she was attractive. Unfortunately for males, however, sometimes that was all they really needed to be peachy keen and satisfied.
"So that means you'll be graduating this June then," Eli stated, giving Cory another once (or twice) over, trying to not be too obvious about it. Even if he didn't want to put his eggs in a basket, he could still enjoy his lunch break. "Any idea about where you're going after Hogwarts?"
"The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve."
Re: No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]
Cory supposed she would have some bragging rights after this whole ordeal. Whether anything "happened" or not, Cory had spent time with an attractive older man who was probably infinitely more mature than any of the boys at Hogwarts. Namely one Tucker Pence. And with that thought, Cory wondered what Tucker would think if he knew what she was doing. She wondered if he'd get jealous and storm into their conversation and make a whole embarrassing scene. Or maybe he'd just sit in a corner and brood about it. From what Cory had observed from afar, he had been acting a little more down that usual and he'd probably only get worse if he knew Cory was hanging out with another guy. And not just any guy, but a guy who didn't even go to Hogwarts. He'd blow a fuse. He'd--
No, Cory told herself. She wasn't going to think about Tucker. She was trying to distract herself, right? Tying this situation back to Tucker did not count as distracting herself and Cory needed to stop thinking about him. It was over between them and both of them just had to accept that fact. They had to move on and Cory would do just that. Even if it wasn't with Eli, the Gryffindor would hold her head high and just go on with her life. She couldn't let one boy effect her life like that and she sure as hell wasn't going to let him ruin everything. Cory always prided herself in not allowing anyone, especially a boy, to control her and she wasn't about to start now. Just because Tucker had meant more to her than any other boy. Just because she might have actually cared for him. Just because she thought that maybe, just maybe, she could have loved him.
"Head Girl?" Eli asked with a grin, snapping Cory back into present time. She returned his grin, impressed with the fact he didn't miss a beat. This boy was smooth, she would give him that. Though there was an initial moment of shock, he didn't fumble with his words and come up with some lame excuse to leave. No, he just went along with everything and Cory had to give him kudos for that. Most guys would have had a hard time with that one. Either that or their interest would suddenly drop and they wouldn't seem all that intrigued anymore. Men wanted younger women, but never that young. "Impressive. I was Head Boy in my year. Scored it by sheer luck," he continued without hesitation. Ten more brownie points for him.
"Well, if you had a look at my year, you wouldn't think it all that impressive. Though I did have to use some more... drastic measures to ensure I got the position," Cory said with a light laugh. She gave Eli a little wink as though she were assuring him that she was only joking. While Cory had wanted the position of Head Girl quite badly, she was never one to take short cuts. She liked to win things fair and square. If it wasn't won the right way, it wasn't worth winning at all. Despite her violent nature, Cory did have morals and guidelines to her life. "But I'm sure you had more than just luck on your side when you got Head boy," Cory said sincerely. She was quite sure the Headmaster hadn't just handed Eli the badge just for the heck of it. It wasn't as though Prefects and Head students were chosen by names being drawn out of a hat. Or so Cory hoped. If that really was the manner in which Prefects and Head students were chosen, well, Cory's name must have been in those hats quite a number of times.
"So that means you'll be graduating this June then," Eli stated. Cory noted that it wasn't quite a question, but she nodded, as though confirming his statement. "Any idea about where you're going after Hogwarts?"
The Gryffindor shot Eli a winsome smile before replying, "An auror, of course. It's what I've wanted to be every since I was a little girl. My mum was an auror and I always wanted to be just like her," she said. "Of course, my dad jokes that if I turn out exactly like my mum he'll throw himself off a cliff." The girl chuckled. Her father always did seem to make jokes like that, but Cory's mother had definitely been a handle for Harvey. The two had loved each other dearly and somehow, they had worked despite the dynamic differences in their personalities. Cory's father was laid-back and cool while Cory's mother was fiery and temperamental, just like Cory. "I plan to go straight into auror training right after I graduate."
Re: No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]"Well, if you had a look at my year, you wouldn't think it all that impressive. Though I did have to use some more... drastic measures to ensure I got the position," Cory said with a slight laugh, winking at Eli. He let out a chortle in response, tipping his butterbeer to take another sip. Well, a go-getter wasn't she? Well, he could have fun guessing what house she was in then. The ambitious. Could she be a Slytherin? She just didn't strike Eli as the type. Her little wink, attractive as it was, had insured Eli that she had just been joking, but he could still sense the ambition in her voice. So maybe he was dead on. She was a Slytherin. Merlin, they were making Slytherins differently nowadays. Much nicer and less arrogant. They didn't travel in packs anymore either? Imagine that! Eli would have died of shock if he was still at school. Wait...no. Upon catching sight of Cory's scarf, bearing gold and red, he realized she must belong to the house of Gryffindor. "But I'm sure you had more than just luck on your side when you got Head boy," Cory said, sounding rather sincere.
"Well," Eli started, not wanting to sound arrogant. Really, it was luck. It was a lucky course of unlucky events that all ended up for the best! That was the cycle of life. Shit happens, you learn how to deal with it, and eventually everything works itself out. Like that day for instance. Eli just wanted to shove his wand down the throats of all those hooligans that dared to enchant toilets to regurgitate their contents and eat unsuspecting victims. But since he kept his cool, he was rewarded by spending his lunch break (which he was rather interested in prolonging) with an attractive young girl. "It was more so luck that made me study my sorry arse off before my seventh year, making it look like I had motivation and direction," he said with a mischievous sort of smile. Motivation. Direction. Really the only things he had those traits for in his years at Hogwarts were girls.
"An auror, of course. It's what I've wanted to be every since I was a little girl. My mum was an auror and I always wanted to be just like her," Cory explained, making Eli grin. She wanted to be an Auror! Maybe it was fate. Eli could hear the twilight zone music ringing in his ears. Only in a good way. In a very, very good way. "Of course, my dad jokes that if I turn out exactly like my mum he'll throw himself off a cliff." Eli laughed, but he didn't take his focus off of Cory's desire. That's how he could see her again! Even if he couldn't get her on a date with him due to her age and current location at Hogwarts, he could try to draw her away for "career" manners. He could at least pretend he had honorable intentions. "I plan to go straight into auror training right after I graduate."
Eli's grin spread. Things had taken a fantastic turn for the better! "I guess I'll be seeing you around Auror headquarters then, eh?" He asked, taking a final sip of his butterbeer. "If you want I could arrange to give you a tour of the headquarters. See if I can convince your professors to let you shadow a day at work to see what it's like. Make sure you really want to enter the profession," Eli said with a wink, knowing that Cory didn't have a doubt in her mind. She was so set on it, and Eli could tell more than anything. In fact, it was rather intimidating. If Eli had been a seventh year in the same year as Cory, he probably would have feared or admired the girl. He had known that he wanted to be an Auror since his sixth year, but not was as much certainty as Cory seemed to have. He was always so fickle, jumping from idea to idea trying to find which one was best for him. Now, however, he was comfortable knowing that he had made the right choice.
"Whadda you say we get out of here?" Eli asked, gesturing that his bottle of butterbeer was empty. "Are you meeting up with anyone today, or are you free from plans?"
"The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve."
Re: No More Regurgitating Toilets! [3.14.09 ISO: Cory]
Had Cory known what was going through Eli's head at that moment, she might have been at least a little offended. Simply because she was the Head Girl, it didn't mean that she liked all the houses all the same and didn't participate in inter-house rivalries. While she was usually the one who went around trying to stop it, Cory couldn't say that she sometimes agreed with how they felt. She too had pride in being a Gryffindor and thus had a natural hatred for Slytherins. Most of them, at least. Cory knew better than to lump all Slytherins into one category, for she'd learned that not all Slytherins were bad, just as not all Gryffindors were good. There were plenty of Gryffindors Cory just wanted to cause physical harm to and the Head Girl had some Slytherin friends as well. But despite that, Cory probably would have been a little indignant to know that the first house that came to Eli's mind was Slytherin. While Cory would admit that she was ambitious, she was probably much too pro-action to be a Slytherin. If she didn't like something, she wouldn't find some sneaky way to solve it; she'd march right up there and make sure she did first hand.
"Well," Eli started. "It was more so luck that made me study my sorry arse off before my seventh year, making it look like I had motivation and direction."Hufflepuff, Cory mused with a small grin. He had to be. Even if it really had been luck, he was being humble about everything. He could have just as well said he was the top of his class and whatever else and there wouldn't have been anyway for Cory to know the truth. Not at that moment at least. And just the fact that he didn't make up anything crossed out Slytherin and Gryffindor. Eli lacked that arrogance and cockiness that many of those from both Godric's and Salazar's house possessed. Ravenclaws were also a fair bit big-headed, though usually more about their studies. And the fact that he didn't start really studying until his seventh made Cory want to cross Ravenclaw out. Then there was the fact that he was so determined that he managed to get Head Boy after only a year of working really hard, which would constitute a Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs were determined and motivated and stayed with things, whether they were successful or not.
"I guess I'll be seeing you around Auror headquarters then, eh?" Cory nodded, "Without a doubt." Not becoming an auror was not much of an option for Cory. She would become an auror no matter what she had to do. "If you want I could arrange to give you a tour of the headquarters. See if I can convince your professors to let you shadow a day at work to see what it's like. Make sure you really want to enter the profession," Eli said.
Cory grinned in response. "I wouldn't mind a tour. And I wouldn't mind getting out of class. But just to get used to the place. I already have my mind set on what I want to do," she said, giving a winsome sort of look to Eli. Her determination was clear. Cory had wanted to become an auror since she was a little girl and there was nothing that could convince her otherwise. If anything, the death of her mother would have swayed her interest elsewhere, but that only seemed to augment her desire to become an auror. What doesn't kill you helps you, they said and while the loss of her mother had been a huge blow to Cory, the girl was far too strong to have let it completely devastate her. She'd grown from her loss and her pain and had raised herself above it.
"Whadda you say we get out of here?" Eli asked, gesturing that his bottle of butterbeer was empty. "Are you meeting up with anyone today, or are you free from plans?"
Cory was finishing her own butterbeer as Eli said this. She glanced over at the man, wondering what he had in mind. Was he still interested in her despite the fact she was at least five years younger than him? Cory had to wonder about that fact. If he was, she was fine with that, though it was a shame that nothing could ever really happen between them. But it was nice to dream, right? Besides, Cory wouldn't mind hanging out with Eli. He was sweet, charming, older, and an auror. Even if nothing happened, he would definitely be a good friend to have. "As long as you bring me back before my school leaves, I'm free to do anything." The Gryffindor dropped some money on the counter before turning to Eli. "What did you have in mind?"
