Official Pay-to-Download content discussion
It looks like Bioware is considering the possibility of continuing to generate content (modules, monsters, possibly things like professions and tilesets as well) for the game on some sort of pay-to-download or subscription basis.

Basically there will be no more retail expansion packs for Neverwinter Nights but the live team is considering generating new content and distributing it electronically. To do so they have to continue to pay the bills, and a pay-to-download system is one possibility that they are discussing. Nothing is set in stone, and the thread I linked to in this post is where you can voice your opinion for or against the idea.

Personally, I am all for it as I would love to keep seeing new material released. I would rather pay for new monsters, tilesets, items, and engine upgrades than modules (there are hundreds of free modules you can get already) but if the modules are good enough I would most certainly play them. Community made content is nice, but I don't like 'hak' packs very much and would rather see official content releases. Perhaps Bioware could even help integrate and distribute some of the better custom stuff out there with a system like this?

It's okay I guess, I'd like to see "Witch's Wake" finished and that may be the only way that happens. I'm worried that there won't be a NWN 2. I have my suspicions that WOTC will ream Bioware on royalties in its next D&D license, and that's why Bioware is milking NWN for as long as it can.

I doubt there will be a NWN 2 anytime soon. Apparently, Bioware is working on a large project right now of their own setting (code named Jade Empire or something I think).

Not really code named Jade Empire, that is the name of the game.

It is done in a Knights of the Old Republic style except the fighting is done in real time with a more fighting style command system.

Its set in an oriental setting and will have facets of real and fantasy martial arts. It should be a great game, its expected out winter 04 or if it gets pushed back spring 05.

The NWN thing sounds cool it just blows trying to download content on dialup.

I suspect the NWN bioware team won't be working on Jade Empire, but the KOTOR team will be. The KOTOR team is completely separate from NWN despite the similarities in subquests.

From what I've seen, most of Bioware worked on KOTOR at different times, and from what I've read in interviews and such it will probably be similiar with Jade Empire.
