Patience! Can it be learned?
Luqman, when addressing his son, says; "...bear with patient constancy whate're betide thee; for this is firmness (of purpose) in (the conduct of) affairs." (Qur'an 31:17) The Qur'an has many references to patience and we must learn this attribute. The Holy Prophet told us that, And whoever remains patient, Allah will make him patient. Is this a programmed response that we have been born with or can it be a learned response?

Re: Patience! Can it be learned?
Asalum Alaikum
Patience is something, like most other things, that can be developed.
Here are my thoughts:
You must first ask Allah for guidance and anything that will help you. Allah will insha'allah answer to those who ask sincerely.
In my opinion, patience is by far one of the hardest things to conquer. Harder than conquering false pride, worldly desire, and many other things. You must never give up in this struggle, because you might not succeed in a short time. This kind of thing can take a few weeks, years, or never, depending on you.
Reading Quran and hadith is the best way to progress (if you are able to). and constantly seek knowledge and read. Reading is knowledge, knowledge is power, and the more power you have the more you can use this power to be patient.
I always try to remind myself that my death will come soon and so will paradise, but these will only come soon with patience. I remind myself of the greatness of paradise and of getting to see Allah, insha'allah.
Keeping bad words off your tongue definitly increases your patience a lot. Always keep words that remind you of Allah on your tongue.
I used to have a bad temper problem and when I started reading hadith I began to realize that I needed to be more patient. These things are what I have found out to work very well, even though I still haven't conquered patience. I'm still on my way in this path to Allah. May Allah make the Believers more patient.
