Ph33r story - Just for Driin
Heya!
I wrote up this little story for the CoD newsletter, but I tought that yall maybe wanted to read it to, seen as this is the RP mssg board and all.
------------
It be midday, but the eerie, sunless sky should have warned of the dangers that were just out of human sight. I knew they were out thar, the twisted magics playing with my senses, the sounds from that unnatural jungle causing the hairs on me arms to rise. "My son," It whispered, "Come to me." I could feel its pull and longed for its embrace, it was Death.
"Incoming!" Troe screamed, the strain in his voice, the elven tones that were so foreign in my youth, brought me to attention, snapping me back to the scene that lay about. As the elf scampered toward us, feet afire from the magics that commanded them, the faces I knew and loved waited in grim anticipation. Every jaw was set in every face I saw. From Helix, the flatness of the stoic monk to Ruklaol, the scowl of the fierce warrior, from Elmin, eyes that burned from the magics he spun, to the silent prayers of the cleric and palidan, we all knew.
Tweni, with her forest armor donned, looked back at me and smiled. In those eyes I had found freedom and peace, a friend, a lover. When she tells me nothing, this is when I know she loves me the most. Somehow that look lifted me from anticipation to determination, my teeth clenched without volition, my fingers aglow with the life-bringing powers of Nife.
"Troe!!!" boomed a voice that shook the trees about. "I summon thee!!" Fear washed over the mighty druid as he knew his fate, the might Cazic Thule had called, and none could withstand his writ. As a healer in many worlds I could sense his pain, could feel his lungs collapse as the air was ripped from them. I shuttered as he fell, eyes bulging, blood afire from the poisons within. He was beyond help.
The silence that ensued seemed an eternity, all aware of what had happened, but none daring to look, none daring to put aside the resolve within.
Off in the distance I could hear it coming, the footsteps rattled as if the cracking of some giant walnut. As it came into sight I knew then what we were up against. Made entirely of bone, this creature stood ten spans above me, the form of a dragon. As we encircled the beast the pressure to run was almost unbearable, as many turned to flee. The melees flew into action, swords and maces hammering into bone, splitting and cracking the base of the mighty beast. Suddenly, the air was aglow with magic and half of the party fled, driven away by fear. As the battle wore on the beast was seemingly unharmed and I could feel the strain on my soul.
A cheer went up as the dragon staggered and hope found its way to my heart. The beast was almost beaten and I could feel the terror subsiding. A smile found my lips as I sent my silent retribution.
"Trigem!!!" - It was he, the dark side of creation, and I was only a small part of the life that opposed it. "I summon thee!!" There was no escape. I could feel the crushing hand of God in the center of my being. I dropped through a hole in the ice into a frozen pond. As the darkness encircled me, my vision tunneling, I saw the Dragon fall, I heard the screams of victory, I felt apart of the celebration. I fell to the earth willingly, unable to sound the battle cry of my youth. This battle was ours.
