Plane Of Mischief Petition
I am designing a site dedicated to the restoration and memory of Plane Of Mischief 1.0. I would use screen shots, some good image makes, stories... Anything folks want to share.

In the next couple of days I will put in a petition book. And we'll see if we can't get the EverQuest community to join our petition.

www.geocities.com/planeofmischief/

The site is at geocities for the time being. If it picks up, I will move it to a domain of some sort.

I ask all those who are not in favor of the old PoM to not post in this thread, but create another. This is for those who wish to serve for the petition. Thank you so much.

I can only pray you mean, like, 1.3 and not 1.0.

Re: Plane Of Mischief Petition
I'm sure she means the REAL Plane of Mischief version 1.0, the only one that matters.

Re: Plane Of Mischief Petition
I think you have missed the point. The "original" or version 1.0 PoM was not even remotely functional.

Re: Plane Of Mischief Petition
being someone who has only experienced the 'new' PoM, what are the key differences between new and old?

I didn't miss the point at all.

Plane of Mischief was certainly functional it just wasn't typical. I was bound there for a year and a half and I loved it. No question about it, it was my favorite zone in all of Everquest and will never be matched. I got a lot of exp. there, finished some quests and had a great time doing it.

For those of us who dedicated our time to playing there, it will forever be a tremendous loss.

Re: Plane Of Mischief Petition
I think he means after they added more quests, etc.

But yeah, PoM 1.0-1.3 was just a great zone, and I can't believe they just ruined it like that, and turned it into the boring ass pos it is. I say change it back, keep this new bristlebane, and it's all good.

Re: Plane Of Mischief Petition
I guess we are bogged down in semantics at this point. I really don't know what versions people used to describe the different phases of the pre-revamp PoM so I've likely typed something that seems pretty off-base.

I was trying to say that the original PoM that could be zoned into was not functional. At that point Mobs were unitemized, quests were not implemented and things were very strange, even by PoM standards. I was thinking 1.3 as in once there had the majority of the quests working but before they did the big revamp. That apparently isn't what is commonly referred to as 1.3 though.

I'd be all in favor of returning it to largely the same state as it was pre-revamp, although the present zone-in probably would make it more popular. I'm not sure if anyone is killing Bristlebane or not these days (I'm inclined to think not) but he could likely still be incorporated into this sort of change.

Re: Plane Of Mischief Petition
I see we were really speaking from the same side of the issue.

According to some PoM boards there have been three versions, so when you said 1.3 I assumed you meant the latest version.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Was never in a guild that did ToV so never got to go there. What are the differences between old PoM and new?...besides the Bristlebane steriod injection.

I read the pom boards, and people generally classify PoM as 3 versions: 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0

1.0 refers to PoM before the revamp hit legends server.
2.0 refers to the revamp that went on legends and that is now on live
3.0 was live for a very brief time a couple weeks after 2.0 hit live servers. It was almost a combination of 1.0 and 2.0, but even more unfinished then original pom. it was eventually switched back to 2.0

the petition is to bring back what we call version 1.0, the one before the major revamp.

too many differences for me to describe, but in a nutshell:

-wasn't KoS
-entrance was in ntov
-all loot was quested with combinations of dropped cards(squires/knights/crowns/thrones)
-overall better atmosphere, lots of mobs with memorable names, dialouge, and placement while the new pom just has rooms crammed with random arbitriary kos mobs starting with "a" or "an" like your typical ldon.

one idea I liked that has been voiced before was splitting PoM into 2 zones with the same geometry, PoMA and PoMB. PoMA would be the old pom accessed through ntov while PoMB would be the revamp PoM still in GD. I don't know if that would be possible or even worth doing, but it would be a fair compromise for those who may like the newer PoM.

Re: Plane Of Mischief Petition
Excellent explanation, Elephi, but just one minor quibble. On the PoM board we don't track fractional versions, just the major versions: 1, 2 and 3. I suggested version 2 when it hit the live servers and then 3 when it suddenly sprang up out of nowhere (human male turtles in the moat!). It was understood that PoM as it was just before version 2 went live was the (almost) fully realized version 1. There were, oh, about 5 or 6 updates of note to version 1 during it's time. I saw all but the very first, which was indeed non-functional.

The data set that Brenlo referred to on SOE's board is no doubt version 1 just before the switch to version 2. I'm also sure they have version 3 saved somewhere and that its release was unintentional. I doubt that one will see the light of day again but perhaps portions can be reused.

I've read Dual PoM proposals on both SOE's board and, earlier, on the PoM board. I take it one step further and encourage SOE to devote resources to evolving the concepts in PoM version 1 into an entire themed expansion. Call it the Funhouse expansion for now.

It doesn't have to be a huge geographic expanse. After all, you're entering the province of The Trickster himself. Think Madhouse but with a serious Everquest bent. Think fun. You are going IN not away or over. Click on the dollhouse and shrink as you fall in. You can just as easily click on a mirror and fall through the looking glass. Simple tricks developers and designers already know how to do.

This conceptual archtecture lends itself to an LDoN design. Yup, instanced content. There would be more differences, of course, because Bristlebane wants it that way. No more boring sameness every time. Click on a mirror, chessboard, potted plant or light fixture and you end up in an oddball room (with a puzzle to solve) or maze or upside down wing. Instead of augs there would be all sorts of wacky drops, which you then combine in your empty pots o' gold -- you did keep yours, didn't you? oh well, there can be a new way to make them -- to make useful items for your class. All classes would be covered, of course, not the limited casters+monk stuff from version 1. The dollhouse can even stay where it is to encourage foot traffic.

And so on. You get the idea. Think Funhouse. Think amusement park expansion but Everquest style. Take what nearly everyone who got to know old PoM knows was FUN and expand on it. Nearly everyone wanted to go there, and for a variety of reasons. (Halflings wanted to meet their god. Tunare druids wanted to complete their ring quests. Et cetera.) But few actually made it. Many of those that did made it their home for some time. I did for over 2 years. 2 years!

So take this pent up demand and satisfy it with a sizable expansion. This will satisfy both bean counters and players alike. Trust me. I know. I wrote the original PoM FAQ. I got to see everything old PoM had to offer, and it was FUN.

Re: Plane Of Mischief Petition
I enjoyed PoM 3.0, and I'd like to see that finished more than another random XP zone (2.0).

Ver 1 would also be nice, though I'd imagine all the PoM purists would be all upset if they left the zonein point in GD.

Re: Plane Of Mischief Petition
I was never in PoM, but I heard tales and stories and would love to see the old one.

My only quibble is that they should keep the new zone in. It's exceedingly difficult to get there thru NToV, and even if you bind there, you could be in for a world of hurt. I knew a cleric/shaman duo that bound there, but whenever they died and we needed them ASAP in an LDoN or other area, their gate stones were on their corpses and thus they were trapped in Mischief. I always thought it was an incredibly silly place to bind, unless you spent 24/7 in that zone.
