Playing through
A solitary girl sat at the dusty piano bench in the auditorium that rested in the middle of the stage, a pair of Buttery hazel eyes were fixated on the mahagony wood of the piano before her. Her hair was down for once, the ebony strands managed to just barely brush against thin her shoulders. She liked her hair short. With everyone walking around with long flowing black hair she atleast stood out from the rest of the girls. Other then the fact that she looked too slender for her own good. She wore a fitted lilac long sleved polo, the sleves cupped over her knuckles. Her favorite pair of jean hip huggers that were clearly too long causing the bottom of the jean to drag throught the snow and the dust finished off her look for the day.

Any one looking at her would notice the bandaid under her warm pink cheeks, and assumed she had gotten into a ray with another girl but her war wound was simply an effect from her own clumsyness. A rafter creaked and anyother day it would have sent her running out of the dark dusty room too terrified to return but she mearly stared off into space, her eyes foucsed on the ivory keys. Even if the building was burning, she would have remained very still as she sat there. How much longer could she stand to be a failure to her parents. They wanted so bad for her to be a meta human wonder that it killed her to not be able to live up to their only wish of her.

There were so many things--too many things that her mind could focus on. Part of her wanted to give in to it and fake her super powers, but she didn't. She couldnt, what if someone needed her help in a dangerous situation, she would be a fruad, a fake, a liar. She would continue to look for a way to figure it all out...she would be wiling to accept any possible option.

The lone girl glided her hands along the wood then she pushed back the part that coverd the keys, the ivory set against her jet black half notes. It had been a long time since she last played the piano. Not to the surprise of most who knew her...Meliah could play the piano. Her fingers touched the cool surface of the keys. At first, she played a few simple chords. It was done to get the feel of it again. The chords soon melted away in to melody, enchanting and intense; It was soft, yet strong. A melody that one could listen to whether they were happy or sad. However, as she played it, it held a heaviness to it. A beautiful saddness.

The song was very long. She managed to get half way through the complete song before coming to an abrubt stop. The act of playing the piano was hurting the scrape on her palms and her twisted wrist from the constant running she had been doing lately. Meliah stared at the keys with a look of disapointment. It hurt to raise her fingers again to the keys but she did it anyways, refusing to stop. A stinging pain lingered in her hands but she kept playing enjoying the way the notes travelled fromt he piano into the air and around the rafters.

Re: Playing through
Nessa listened from outside to the beautiful melody, and winced as the music stopped for a moment, and smiled again as it began once more. She knew this, from some unblemished part of her childhood--she thought that he mother had sung this to her as a lullaby, but her memories of those times were so distant and faded that she could never be sure. As the second verse began, she walked in unobtrusively and unbotheringly, but sang out the words in a light, clear voice, knowing that she could sing with a fuller voice, but this song required a delicate touch, and too much flair or finesse could easily ruin it, so she didn't use any vibrato, and simply sang it straight, the way it was meant to be sung. She squared her shouldered, made sure she wasn't slouching down, breathed through her diaphragm, kept her mouth open for good projection, and sang with good form, though in a simple style;

"Who are those little girls in pain
Just trapped in castle of dark side of moon?
Twelve of them shining bright in vain
Like flowers that blossom just once in years
They're dancing in the shadows like whispers of love
Just dreaming of a place where they're free as doves
They've never been allowed to love in this curs-ed cage
It's only the fairy-tale they believe..."

Once the song was finished, she smiled at the girl. "You play beautifully," she said, and nodded her head to the girl, her straight silvery-white shoulder-length hair swaying forward to frame a pink mouth, dark blue eyes, and a heart-shaped face. She continued smiling a gentle smile at the girl, and said, "My name's Nessa. What's yours? I take it that you're new here, same as me?" She waited expectantly, hoping to get a positive response out of her, and perhaps be good friends if that was, what was meant to be.

Re: Playing through
Vash had been quietly skulking around as usual when he entered the auditorium via the rafters. A small creek indicated his entrance, though most would mistake it for an old auditorium crying out it's age. This was, in fact, a flasehood as the building was quite new but simply crafted to look ancient. The dunpeal then laid out across on the of the supporting beams and slid his hat over his face. The only girl in the room was fixated on the piano placed on the stage, so he assumed there would be some music involved at some point.

As if the girl had heard his thoughts, she began to play a very enchanting melody. It was very sad song at it's foundation, though it tried to mask, or maybe enhance, this feature with a fluid and wispy feel to it instead of the traditional solid and mournful crashes of a truely sad song. Vash had finally decided that it was a haunting sort of sound, one he was acustom to and, secretly, enjoyed. A smile adjusted itself on his paleing lips as he began to sway his head back and forth gently to the beat.

Just then, the deja-vu became complete as another girl slid into the auditorium and began to sing. He hsi eyes shot open with excitment, as if expecting something good to be walking right into his vision. He was disappointed to see it was only another female student he had never seen before on campus. He had no clue why he expected it to be the same, but it seemed so appropriate. V had been playing the piano, much like this girl was right now. The sad melody fit the reoccurance perfectly and for one moment he had dirfted into a notion that maybe it would give him a second chance. Though, it wasn't Amber who had walked through those doors for a second time, for that second chance, but somebody entirely new. The dunpeal sighed and went back to lsitening rather than hoping and tried to enjoy the rest of the song.

"Then again, wouldn't you thinking already be thought out, so that your thinking is involved in what you'll do? So that means if you didn't think then you wouldn't get to the same conclusion as you would if you thought about it, right? Oh well, best not to think about thinking about thinking, you think so? Well, I still say not thinking is the best way to think!" -Alex Summers, thinking about thinking

Re: Playing through
She never looked up from the distance into which she stared, muddy greenish orbs set in stone, still fixed to a space in the corner as if the movie of this story was playing for all to view on the wall. The tops of her smooth skinned fingers masked the cuts and scrapes that lay on the bottom, centered in her palm. They moved charmingly across the keys, persuading them to melt togather in perfect sync under her honeyed touch. As the girl finished the words to the ballad Meliah slowly moved her vision toward her new collaborator and companion. She smiled whistfully at the girl as she presed the final cords of the song. She placed her hands softly in her lap as a warming smile danced across her small pink lips and the music finished wallowing in the empty space of the raftors. She waited quietly as the intoxicating melody of their combined sounds became deliquesce to their ears.

"Im Meliah Novelle, its nice to meet you and yes Im new here too. Its good to meet someone like me."

She said this smearing on her trademark all american girl smile, frantically scraping off any trace of heartache that might have been left on that smooth complexion. The dimples in her cheeks sprung into action, adding a too sickening adorable quality to the young girls face. Her looks seemed to do that to people, either they swooned over her clean cut apperance or they wanted to strangle that innocent smile off of her tanned face.

"And I cant take all the credit. My mom forced me to play since I was little, I guess I was supposed to be a child prodigy but it never panned out like that. Not to mention that your melodious voice carried the tune. Would you like to do another one?"

She said prepping her hands already in the cool ivories, ignoring the searing pain that stung her palms like needles. That fall must have been worse then she had acknowledged but she pressed down on the keys nonetheless, playing the simple tune of Mary had a little lamb. She grinned childishly at the girl and chuckled enjoying her company but thought for a moment. If this girl had been there while she hadnt noticed, who else could be creeping around silently?

Re: Playing through
Nessa was completely unaware of the other prescence that she hadn't as yet met in the rafters. She studied Meliah with a perceptive eye and an astute gaze, piercing through the layers of deception that masked her inner pain, seeing the tell-tale signs of a pain that mirrored Nessa's own forgotten ones. Well, if the girl wanted to hide that pain without sharing it, that was her concern, and Nessa wouldn't press on it, especially when they just met, but when--or even if--the time came, she would be waiting beside her, willing to simply lend the comfort of the company of another person close by, an open ear to listen without prejudice, and a pure heart to render advice when she felt it would be the right thing to do.

And so, she put on smile, though hers was genuine, since she had long ago decided that her past would stay locked in the past, and she conciously tried to forget it, and let her inner happiness and love for the world shine out. If she had let her memories get the best of her, she would either be like this girl here, putting on a facade to fool the world so that they would not see how scarred and wounded she was, or the other alternative, to sit crying in a corner all day. She had decided on the other road, of getting past the pain and scars, and instead she tried to be happy genuinely for where she was and what she was doing.

At the offer of another song, Nessa brightened up--she loved singing so much. But then she saw an imperceptible wince from Meliah, and told her, "Sure, I'd like another song, but this time I'll sing, and you listen, alright? Don't push yourself unnecessarily," and with that she began singing two simple tunes from the past, one following the other, both intertwining and leaving vestiges of themselves behind in the minds of those who listened to them, both of them melodies tinged with sadness, and yet with an ending of hope and love that belied their sad beginning.

Song 1
Song 2

Translations:

Song 1:
"One soundless midday,
the wind was fresh and clean,
and the flower petals swayed as if they were asleep.

This serene feeling...
Tell me, what's the name that people give it?

Tell me a story that's locked away in the white sand of the moon,
let me hear it as gently as light shining down."

Song 2:
"The sky, the blue sky
A murmuring voice
Your dreams are now turning the wheel of stars
I am always nowhere
That is how I felt
Until I sensed your eyes upon me.
There is only one eclipsed moon in the corner of my heart.
Shine down brightly enough to light up the narrowest of paths"

Re: Playing through
She listened to the dulcet sound that came brushing past the girls lips and into the still air. The words filled her inside and out, comming from somewhere she had never seen before, somwhere that just too personal to even tell herself that it was true. So she dusted off this feeling that was hitting alittle to close to home, then noticing that she had heard the song before.

It was like a flash back in her mind while she sat completely still, chest raising and falling just enough to breath and fingers resting on the white lines infront of her as if they were the key. Not that keys in which she had been playing but the answer, the expalination, the passport into that place that was too honest. Her mind slipped into her own thoughts of her family and how she was so close to being perfect in their eyes. All she needed was those damned powers. She cleared her throat, also shaking her head to lose the thoughts that swarmed back to anger and dissappointment.

"I know this one..."

She mummbled and glanced back down at the mahogany wood infront of her.

Re: Playing through
Nessa sensed the inner turmoil that filled the girl's frame, but would still give her space until she felt comfortable enough to talk about herself, so she decided that they'd have one more song, one filled with passion and hope, how one should take pleasure from today and concentrate on the future instead of on the past.

"Let's have one more, eh? It's not that hard, and I think you'll have heard it before," says Nessa with a friendly smile. She begins humming the introduction and waits for Meliah to pick out the tune on the keyboard before beginning to sing. Once she gets to the chorus, she waves her hand for Meliah to sing with her, carrying the tune mostly by herself should Meliah falter, but enjoying the accompaniment should it be there.

"Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away"

Once the last chords of the song drifted away, she smiled at Meliah, and said, "We should get together more often to do this," and then continued with a mischevious question, "... perhaps we could have a little school concert some time? I think that that could be a lot of fun ... just you and the piano, and me on vocals," she gave another encouraging smile.

Re: Playing through
Vash had been contently listening to the two girls singing and playing their songs from his pearch on the rafters. They sounded so well together, at least for the songs they had been doing. He was slightly confused whem the girl singing had done two songs by herself. Something about the piano girl being in pain? He set aside the reason, but it was still a little puzzling without acctually watching the two. He had been lieing down, proped against a support beam going up with his hat over his face. How many times had he taken a nap up here as he listened to the random musicians of the school play as they thought they were alone he couldn't count. It was such a peaceful place, and the music almost enhanced the dreamy atmosphere.

The dunpeal then chuckled at the last song. If it wasn't Japanese inspired it had to be rock and roll with America. He was sure his position was still hidden because of the whisper of a chuckle being muffled by hsi hat, but he decided there was no need for it anymore. Putting his hat back up onto his head, he waited for the song to end. He then slid off to his right side from the rafter and quickly went into a freefall to the stage. twisting his body in a quick spin, he moved to a standing position far from the impact he received when he hit the floor. The whole stage shook, creaked and moaned under his two feet slamming against it. The dust flew up from the cracks of the floorboards and billowed around his feet. He then looked at the two girls, smirking a little at the both of them.

"Vash Hellsinger." he said as he bowed and took off his hat. His hair was now covering any chance of seeing his face. "Pleased to make your aquaintences."

"Then again, wouldn't you thinking already be thought out, so that your thinking is involved in what you'll do? So that means if you didn't think then you wouldn't get to the same conclusion as you would if you thought about it, right? Oh well, best not to think about thinking about thinking, you think so? Re: Playing through
Meliah looked up at Nessa then back at the piano, placing her graceful fingers on the correct keys then depressing them as the verse ended and the chorus began. She had heard this on too. Spending hours in front of the ivories studying everything from great classical music to Alicia Keys new song would do that to a person. She had to learn it all and now it was paying off. Finally.

"Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away"

She sung in a smooth exotic voice but not over powering her new friend, with Nessa as hear lead she found no reason to over power her. She just liked to companionship this girl was giving her at the moment. The song ended and she drew in a shallow breath, while easing her fingers away from the keys. She smiled at Nessa in response to her statement. It had given her a great pleasure to be there with someone to feel the way she felt. It was good to have someone not ask questions just for once. She parted her pink lips to respond to her but heard a loud bang hit the floor causing her to leap off of her bench, knocking it to the floor. Her instincts were screaming at her to run but she stayed put, she couldnt just ditch Nessa. She placed her thin hands over her rattling heart and managed to stammer out a sentence.

"How long have you been there!?"

Re: Playing through
"Oh!" Nessa gave a little shriek and shied back a little at the loud sound that disrupted their conversation with its rude and frightening bang. She echoed Meliah's question; "Yes, just how long were you up there? And who are you?" after thinking for a moment, she got closer to Meliah, and asked him in a quavering voice, "Are you some kind of pervert or stalker to be peeping on us from above there?" she asked, frightened of this new apparition. She couldn't see his face, so she had no way of knowing who he was, but she was pretty sure she didn't know him--was he another student there, or had he come from outside? Perhaps he was a rapist, coming to violate the innocent students and deprive them of their maidenhead? She got more and more flustered by the second, and blurted out, "Don't come nearer, Mr. Rapist! We might not look strong, but if you come closer, you'll be sorry!" she finished, still quavering, her nerves shaken by his sudden entrance and strange appearance.

Re: Playing through
Straightening up and putting his hat back on, the dunpeal simple looked at Nessa and blinked for a couple seconds. Hadn't he just introduced himself? There was then contraversy over him being a rapist and he immediately locked his eyes onto Nessa. His sudden appearence must have been shocking, at least to these two. They had to be new to the school, because nothing else would warrent them being afraid of people just coming out of nowhere. It was one of the many unique things that seemed to happen at Manga High. Now needing to clear his name, he began to walk towards Meliah calmly, as if no words had been exchanged between her and Nessa.

"I have been up there since you have started playing. I must say, you play the piano as if it were your third arm...Or fourth, I would not be sure of that yet." A small and polite smile slid across his face as he instinctively took the girls hand delicately and kissed it. He then bowed slightly again to prove he was no threat and then slid his hand off her's to return it to his pocket. "I am sorry if I alarmed you girls, though it is something you should come to expect in this school."

"Then again, wouldn't you thinking already be thought out, so that your thinking is involved in what you'll do? So that means if you didn't think then you wouldn't get to the same conclusion as you would if you thought about it, right? Oh well, best not to think about thinking about thinking, you think so? Re: Playing through
Once Vash has gone away a little from Meliah, Nessa comes closer and begins whispering in her ear. "Can you believe what that rapist said? He's been watching us two proper young girls like a fox all this time... I mean, look at him! First of all, he's so pale and clammy, he looks as though he never gets any sunlight! I mean, I'm pale, but I'm not as pale as death! And secondly, why is he wearing that big hat if he's not trying to hide something? Thirdly, what are all those protrusions from inside his clothes? I mean, I doubt they're food to give out to the poor--they're probably some sex-toys a pervert like that enjoys playing with," she gives a shudder before continuing.

"And look at that chin! That's just a weak chin that juts out from under the brim of his hat! Like a fox! That's not a trustable chin, I tell you! And look at those gloves--why would he wear gloves if he didn't want to not leave fingerprints? And he probably wears all black and brown to hide himself better in the dark so he can surprise innocent girls like ourselves, and do ... evil things to them in the dark! And why would he carry those guns if not to use to frighten girls like us to do nefarious things for him? And ... and ... he tried to kiss you! Good thing you put your hand out to stop him, but he nearly kissed you!"

She turns to the dunpeal and bows formally, with a grave look on her face. "Thank you for introducing yourself hentai-san, but most people at this school have far more manners than you--I only arrived a few days ago, and you, hentai-san, are the first to sneak up on me so suddenly and frighten me so--and yes, I've met a good number of people here." She looks ready to continue berating him.

EDIT: Sorry, Vash, but this is too funny to let go of. (ROFLMAO) ... and you'll only lose if you try arguing with women--believe me from experience ^_^

Re: Playing through
Vash was a little taken aback by the girl's comments. She was so rude even though he tried to be as polite as he possibly could. Maybe she was just paranoid, or didn't like vampires. Then again, he didn't even like himself, so why would she? And that hentai thing, what was that? Another comic book serise from Japan? Were dunpeals famous characters in Japan? So many questions, yet he didn't dare ask. He would need to defend his honour and salvage what was left of it before possibly jumping back into his prefered place of residence: the shadows.

"First of all, I am not Entay! I may look like it, I may speak like it, and I most certainly must act like it, but I am not Entay!" he protested, not wanting another associastion with a comic book character. He then backed away from them, shifting his aht down lower. "And secondly, I am no threat to you girls. I am simply one of the students here at MHS." At the mention of that, he quickly opened his jacket up to reveal what was inside. "See, fully clothed..."

Though he did have a complete set of clothes on, that wasn't all the jacket hid. A full arsenal for any decent hunter was attached to the inside of the coat as well. Stakes, hoyl water, grenades, shotgun shells, 9mm clips, his two 9mm, some various other implements and the charm that Amber had given him hanging around his neck. Though maybe it wasn't the mark of a rapist, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to reveal his stash of weapons.

"Then again, wouldn't you thinking already be thought out, so that your thinking is involved in what you'll do? Rafael ran in front of the two girls holding his hands out in a protective way. "GET OUTTA HERE YA RAPIST" Rafael yelled "TAKE YOUR SICK TOOLS WITH YOU." Rafael swallowed as he stared at the man coldly. "If you take another step towards these innocent girls im gonna have to do everything in my power to stop you." Rafael go into a fighting stance.

Re: Playing through
Meliah's heart slowly resumed its steady beat, but not before Vash had taken her hand in his gloved one. She easily accomidated his lift and kiss as she stared at him slightly mesmorized by his manors. His thin lips on her light brown skin left a chilling pulse there but she didnt bother to wipe it off. It only add to his mysterious form. Her hazel eyes looked at Nessa she she whispered little comments in her ear, sturing up a bunch of sillyness as she spilled her thoughts out to Meliah. She reached out to grasp Nessa's slender wrist and tell her to calm down but Vash had answered her before she could get a word in!

"Ne-I...Uh..."

She sighed in frustration and stuffed her hands into her fluffy coat, waiting for the two of the to finish. She shut an eye and turned har head slightly to the side as he opened his coat. Nessa had filled her head with those nonsensical words and it was a reflex reaction. She breathed out in relief to see it was only and arsonal of wepons....an ARSONAL of wepons!?!? She eyes widened with shock and she parted her lips to comment but someone bursh throught the doors before the words could travel up her throat. With a scoff she rolled her eyes at the boy and Nessa for their paranioa.

"You guys are being ridiclous! I mean really! He just said who he was and is being completely honest!" She moved from Nessa's side and brushed past Rafael, who looked like a total goober standing their trying to defend their honor and maidenhood from a boy student at their school. Was she to trusting in all people? Meh, maybe but she wasnt one to fold to paranoia either. She smiled at the that was shrounded in secrets, her childish dimples pressed into those smooth cheeks.

"Im Meliah Novelle, That girl is Nessa, and him...I dont know who he is but I am glad you enjoy it. After 14 years of constant practice at the hands of a slave driver I like to Momma, I guess Im decent."

"How can you tell he's telling the truth? I mean, if you were a closet rapist or something, would you tell people the truth? Fine, fine..." Nessa acquieses to Meliah's attempt to calm her down, though she shoots Vash an "I'll be keeping an eye on you!" look. She then turned to Rafael, and said, "Hey, Raf, what's up?" with a smile at the boy as she waits warily for Vash to make his next movie, still wary of what he might try to do to them.

Re: Playing through
Vash sighed with relief at Meliah's sound judgement. Finally, someone who understood! Vash would never hurt any of the students on campus to any measurable degree. Even with Yakoutio, he dared not severely injure the boy despite being posessed by a demon. The hunter was simply looking out for those who didn't know about horrors that lurked in the shadows of Manga High. Now that Meliah was on his side, it would easy to work on the other two to convince him he wasn't a rapist.

"I can assure you, your friend is correct. I am not here to harm anyone, simply to protect. The true evils of this school are cleverly hidden within the diguises of friends." he explained, though not wanting to give away names in case someone wanted to be over zealous like the boy that had entered so abruptly.

"Then again, wouldn't you thinking already be thought out, so that your thinking is involved in what you'll do? Rafael pulled nessa off to the side when the weirdo started speaking. "I dont trust this guy, I wanna get away from him." He said pulling her closer to the exit. "If you want to stick around I will stay to protect" He finished letting go of her and giving her time to think about a decision.

She turned from Vash and shot Nessa a pleading look as she was dragged towards the door, begging her new friend to stay with her. They had been having such good fun and she didnt want to lose the girl over someone being paranoid. Her innocent hazel eyes went wide with a pleading basset hound quality to them and her pink lips were pushed out, quivering slightly as she shifted her feet, kicking the air and looking pitiful. Oh yeah, she was giving her the puppy dog face. It always worked for her parents, why not a friend?

"Are you leaving me Nessa?"

Re: Playing through
Nessa noticed the same "look" she put on when she tried to get things via cuteness, and sighed to herself. "Raf, it's fine, I can protect myself fairly well," she smiled at him gently. "Go if you have somewhere to be, I'll stay for a little."

She had thought about going simply to show this new girl that the big eyes and mournful face didn't affect her, since she used them herself, but decided instead to stick with her now, and talk to her about it later; she's not the kind of girl to embaress or abandon friends in tough situations. She just hoped that some day Meliah would find the inner strength that lay within her to get what she wanted by speaking how she felt clearly, and by reaching her goals not only through feminine wiles and cuteness, but using all the tools at her disposal. She came closer to Meliah, and said, "Don't worry, I'm not going to abandon you yet," with a soft smile.
