***Raid Tips*** Please read - updated 4-13-02
I'd just like to once more post the 'ol raid tips. We may have members with us that have not gone on organized raids before. In any event, please read and comment on these helpful hints :)
When you plan a raid, try and pick an objective, such as Getting exp, exploring a dungeon, or getting a drop. It also would be wise to plan an alternate raid, in case the place you want to go is heavily camped.
If you are doing a raid with more then two groups, it is suggested one person be appointed raid leader, with one person in each group being the group leader. This makes for smoother communication.
It never hurts to appoint someone a "Loot Leader", and have them manage all drops.
There will be occasions where people will get seperated or die, and the raid cannot go back to get them A good example of this is the Tower of Frozen Shadow. If you accidentally click a mirror on the 6th floor and port back outside, the rest of the raid may well not be able to get back to you. Accept this with grace. Another good example is City of Mist. If the raid manages to get to the top of the Goos, and you fall off and die, you might not get rezzed until the raid is over. Be prepared for this.
If the raid starts just when you get home from work, or early in the morning (example - FOTP Kael raids), it's never a bad idea to park your character nearby the night before.
It's a good idea to visit everquest.allakhazam.com, and print out the drops in the zone you will be hunting in. Not only do you not have to ask for stats when something you can use drops (slowing down the whole raid), but you will know what NOT to roll on, and what good stuff to save your rolls for :)
2.) During the Raid
Firstly, be on time. If you come late, you might not be able to participate. This is a big one. :) Be prepared to stay at least an hour or whatever, if there is not a finish time on the thread where it was planned. If you decide to peel 30 minutes in, you can't really expect someone to port you out of there.
Pay attention! :) It's not fair to keep asking what we are doing, especially when the raid leader/group leader has announced what we are doing more then 3 times.
A raid is usually not a exp group. You may not get any experience, any drops, and will often die on raids. Be prepared for that.
If you are having a lousy raid experience, keep it to yourself until after the raid, please :) Try to keep morale up.
Don't wander. Wandering will get you killed, and even worse, will get others killed looking for you or recovering your corpse. High level players are guilty of this. Up until a few levels ago I was guilty of this. It is good you learn this young. Do not wander. If you get seperated from the group, say so *immediately*.
If you are a fragile class, such as a wizard, cleric, or necro, or whatever, and you somehow get the creatures attention, and it starts hitting you, do not run around panicked. Stop attacking (if you are melee'ing) and stand there. Tell the group there is one on you, do a /yell if you need to, but do not run. Running makes it worse. BETTER YET, If you are a class that is so blessed, calmly root them and walk away, telling the group you parked one.
Speaking of getting a creatures attention: if you are a caster class, don't open the fight up with your biggest direct damage spells (nukes). Wait until the creature is at 50% damage before unloading, so that the tanks have time to gain sufficient aggro. You can do DoTs when the creature is down 25% health, but space them out, not all at the same time.
Manage your mana: if you are fighting creatures that your tanks are taking down in 30 seconds or less, dont bother with DoTs at all.
In a dungeon, when a creature turns to flee, try throwing a snare on it instead of rooting it. A rooted creature will fight, a snared one will often just stand there not attacking. If it keeps running, you may want to root it afore it can get assistance.
Just like the movies, try to have a good idea where the exits are at all times.
Do not go AFK without telling anyone. When you come back, tell everyone.
Update the group as to your mana. Don't wait till someone asks. If you are the puller, ask before you pull.
If you are the healer, and you cannot keep up with the pulls, say so. It's not a race.
Do not ask a puller what to pull when they are pulling. You can suggest things that you would like to see killed during downtime, but try not to distract your puller, especially with tells, when they are pulling.
If you are the puller, and you get a massive overpull, try to know when your group can handle it, and when it is going to result in multiple deaths. In the case of the latter, find a nice spot and die with grace. :) Better to recover and rez one corpse then 6.
If on the raid you are looking to loot something in particular, such as something that is NODROP for a quest, make sure everyone that is raiding knows, or else some knucklehead will loot your @#%$. Usually someone that can't even use it :)
Thou shalt respect the greens! Ok, you are an uber bastard with gear that makes people in EC cry, a weapon that has smited the mightiest dragon, and more AC then an armored truck. Sadly, 20 green gnolls will still kick your ass, Superman. Thou shalt respect the greens! Greens don't kill, "Uberitis" does.
When Hiemer says run, run.
3.) After the raid
Make egress. Don't sit around after you kill the boss monster BSing, or you may just get smacked around by repopping yard trash. Make plans to leave, and execute them :)
Discuss the drops, and any unhappiness that may have occurred during the raid, good or bad: it's all a learning experience.

This guild is not a military organization, and these are not rules engraved in steel that you will follow or die. But, these are pointers and tips that we as a guild have developed over the last few months, and usualy we paid for these lessons in blood. Hopefully, you can learn from what we have. The point of the game is to have fun, above all, to enjoy the game. These guidelines are not intended to infringe on it, but to maximize this, because losing exp and doing long corpse runs is no fun at all.
If you have any thoughts, comments, or additions to add to this list, please do not hesitate to do so below.
This guide is repopped every 2 months or so, and everyone should read it, as new stuff is added all the time.

Yeah, I would like to now reiterate the fact that when, as a caster, you start getting beat on, definitely let the group know. I used to just patiently wait for the cleric to notice my health dropping to heal me, and for the tank to come taunt the beast, but that is no longer sufficient.
The fact is, at these higher levels, I will be dead in 10 seconds or less if something is beating on me. I recommend to you fellow mages and wizzies to make a hotkey to punch that you are being beat to a pulp.
And yes, try to land a root and have it stick, but don't count on it. Let your group know you're about to die.
Twice the last couple weeks, I died when I didn't say anything while getting beat, and it just took too long for the cleric to heal me in time. And it wasn't like the cleric was afk, I just die that quickly now. If the cleric sees my health at half, its already too late, and all that takes is a 1 second lag spike. I have learned my lesson.
