Rosie 2 the Green Sea Turtle
Rosie 2 the Green Sea Turtle
Rosie 2, a Green Sea Turtle, was found floating at Coochiemudlo Island (Redland Shire) on 8 August, 2006. When Rosie 2 arrived at the Hospital she was severely dehydrated and extremely weak to the point where she could not lift her head to breathe.
Many lab tests were performed, including blood tests. Blood tests revealed she had extensive muscle damage and had not eaten for a long time (she had a zero blood glucose reading). Rosie 2 was placed on IV fluids to protect her kidneys from the muscle damage and IV glucose for energy. She was also placed on other prophylactic medications to cover diseases such as those caused by internal parasites and septicaemia.
After three days of intensive treatment, Rosie 2 had regained enough strength to be put into a shallow pool. Rosie 2 is now diving and is no longer floating. (Turtles that float can not dive properly to feed. Floating syndrome may be caused by trauma (e.g. being hit by a boat), human error, (e.g. turtles ingesting fishing tackle, plastic bags and other rubbish that has been thrown into the ocean), or disease (e.g. coccidia).
Rosie 2 is currently being tube-fed until she starts to eat by herself. Dr Che hopes she will be ready for release within the next couple of weeks.
* A turtle the size of Rosie 2 (8kg) costs approximately $150 a day to feed, medicate and house.

I don't know what that 2nd pic (on the page linked) is supposed to be. Maybe the rubbish they were talking about?
