June 1st - June 19th
It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.
Rumors, Rumors [3.12.09; ISO: Blaire]
[ooc: I'm just gonna use a couple NPC's to establish the rumor before we get started. Sorry if it seems a bit long. I think I got kinda carried away...>.>]
A few days before...
"Let's play the Matching Game!!"
"No, the Matching Game is so juvenile. We aren't in the third year anymore."
"So? Just for fun. For old times sake. Come on, give me some names."
"Nooo just leave me alone. I'm trying to finish my homework."
"You can do homework ANY old time. We'll start off with you. Pick some girls."
"Fine. Bloody hell, if I pick a few will you leave me alone?"
"Cross my heart."
"Okay. Um. Let's get in a good group here... How about that Hufflepuff girl...the tomboy. Alex...Alex Summerlin. Oh and Blaire Blackwit! Alex and Blaire HATE each other. Then how about Cory Weiss, the girl has a stick up her arse if I've ever seen one. And how could she break up with Tucker Pence?! She's so bloody stupid."
"Okay, Alex, Blaire, Cory. Forget about Tucker for right now. We can put him on later."
"Yeah, yeah. Put uh...Puck. Puck Goodfellow. And Mack Raelene! Can't forget Mack. Lynn Stuart too. Didn't she just start dating Sean Raelene?"
"Okay um...Fyora. Fyora Occulo. Fefe Shacklebolt. And Erica Nightshade."
"Okay now ten guys. Shouldn't be hard. You're in love with EVERYTHING male in the castle."
"Oh bugger off. Tucker Pence. And Alex Worth, he's pretty attractive," she giggled. "Devon Singer. And Ashton Singer. Get the brothers in there. Oh and throw Jereff in! And Dion Roderick... Merlin I could swoon! He's so roughish. A traditional bad boy if I ever saw one. Oh and Sean Raelene. Just make sure he isn't paired with Mack. That wouldn't work!"
"What about that new Gryffindor guy? The one with the strangest accent I've ever heard. Val's his name. Val Rasputin. Two more. Hm. Oh and Armand D'Angelo! And Lucian Bishop. There, that's ten."
"Okay, hold on. Lemme match them... Okay. How about Alex and Dion?"
"No way. No way could tomboy girl take Dion away from us. He's WAY too attractive for a tomboy."
"Amen to that. Blaire and...no way! Look at this!"
At that precise moment, Elsie Higgins, dorm mate to Alex Summerlin, walked into the Student Center, whistling innocently. Classes were over for the day, and now she could just relax. And really, that's what she had every intention to do. Maybe find a few attractive males in the Student Center, but if not, it wouldn't be a lost cause.
"Blaire Blackwit and Jereff Stranger?" Two girls shrieked from the corner, followed by giggles and conferencing. Elsie's head whipped toward the girls. Two Ravenclaw sixth years from what she could tell. As Alex's room mate, it was up to Elsie to watch out for sketchy behavior like this. They certainly couldn't be talking about Blaire and Jereff in a romantic sense, could they? "I actually think they could look good together. They're both attractive," the girl continued, giggling again as she scribbling on a piece of parchment in front of her. Elsie's eyes were wide as galleons, and gullible as she was, it was enough to convince her. She darted out of the Student Center to tell Alex the fatal news. Her room mate was NOT going to like this.
Present Day
A few days before, Elsie had told Alex her suspicions of a "budding relationship" between Blaire and Jereff. Alex wanted to laugh when she had first heard it. Where had Elsie come up with this? Two Ravenclaw girls talking about it in the Student Center? It was ridiculous. It sounded like a bunch of bloody gossip if you asked Alex. Not that it made her feel any better. Lucky to her, Elsie had one of the loudest mouths in all of Hogwarts, and had kindly spread the news like wildfire. Random people were now looking at Alex with utmost sympathy, trying to give her an encouraging smile. She wanted to punch them all in the face. There was nothing between Blaire and Jereff! Were they all so bloody pigheaded and stupid to not be able to see that?
Something in the back of Alex's mind had her a bit worried though. She and Jereff had experienced such a smooth relationship so far. It was inevitable that something bad was about to happen, but really, could it be this? A secret fling with Alex's worst enemy in the entire world? No! Jereff would never! He couldn't! Then why did people keep bloody talking about it?! Alex didn't like to attract rumors to herself. She wasn't one for drama like that. She liked to keep a low profile unless she was being dramatic by punching someone in the face. Otherwise, she flew UNDER the radar. Not through it.
So now, Alex had seated herself in the Student Center, glowering as she stared at the fire, just waiting for someone to bring the rumor up. She would gladly sock them right in the face for it. In that sense, she hoped it would come up. She had a huge desire to get her anger and frustration out. What better way than by punching someone?
Blaire wasn’t really the type for rumours. For being in them, perhaps, but she never really liked telling them along and hearing about them. You might of thought her the type, but she didn’t really have much interest in what was going on with other people’s lives (especially when rumours tended not to be true in the first place) and she was logical enough to see the childishness of it. But the rumours that were going around, she had heard - just as well as anyone else. And it was probably one of the most interesting Blaire had heard yet.
“Did you and Jereff really have something going on, Blaire” she recalled many asking her in some sort of way or another. She ignored the other houses, whom she felt her reply would just be a waste of time anyway. But when a Slytherin asked, she’d laugh and say no. It was obscene. Jereff was good-looking yes, but she wouldn’t dare do anything with a guy whose touched Alex.
Any other time, Blaire would have just let the gossip make its pass. But using something like this to manipulate someone was very much a Slytherin quality, and though all Blaire really gave out was cold glare, she was always willing to step that up for Alex Summerlin.
Blaire couldn’t even really remember how the two started hating each other in the first place. It had started out as a tiny, bitter demeanor towards each other. Then small rash comments after the other, until this hatred developed. But why, was the most curious question. There was, of course little contradictions between the two. Like, Blaire believed in taking good care of her appearance, and Alex, well, not so much. But Alex being a tomboyish, rugged sort was definitely not an excuse Blaire would use to hate someone. After all, Blaire liked Fefe, not all the time, but she didn't hate her, and her style was in the same kind of direction.
It was their similarities that seemed more numerous. Like the fact that they both don’t very much care what other people think of them, they are closed off to letting out their feelings so easily, loyal to the friends they had, prideful, hardworking, and hold grudges (obviously). But their similarities seemed to be used in different ways, Blaire had the Slytherin road, in which she sought power and control, and Alex had the truthful, steady Hufflepuff one, and that’s where they seemed to collide. And it’d be easier to say that the two simply didn’t like each other. Though, with Blaire being more inclined to hatred, especially when she found out Alex was a muggleborn, and easily made judgments, it was likely that this adversary of there’s had begun with her. After that, it had been a game of the two.
As for the time being, Blaire was entering the Student Center with a couple two other Slytherin girls in her year, Natalie and Cel. Rarely did she venture off to this room, manly because she much rather preferred the Slytherin Common room. The only time she did is when it was with other Slytherins, and it was even hard to get her in at that. Fefe, if you may recall, had to pull Blaire in by the arm a particularly scandalous night. This time, Blaire hadn’t been physically forced, but a couple girl friends of hers had asked her to play wizard chess with a Ravenclaw friend of theirs. They needed an extra person, and Blaire said she’d tag along. But only because they had asked her, and only because Blaire actually sort of liked Ravenclaws (as long as they weren’t muggleborns).
Entering the room, Blaire was glancing around to see what sort of people were about. She hadn’t noticed Alex sitting in front of the fireplace until Cel pointed it out, and gave Blaire a mischievous smile. “Do you think she’s realized the truth yet?” she began in a snarling yet seriously meant tone. She hadn’t specified Alex, but she was in ears length. Blaire slightly narrowed her eyes and raised her eyebrow at what her friend was saying, but caught on quickly what the serpent was trying to do. Though, she didn’t say anything, and rather, grin pleasantly.
They kept walking onto a table, still at far distance from Alex, and Blaire and Natalie sat upon the chairs as Cel walked a little ways to get a couple chessboards. Natalie had continued on from where Cel had ended, “She can’t handle it, I’m sure. But I’m much more interested in the kissing anyway. You still haven't told us about that.” Blaire’s smirk remained smitten on her face. The three of the Slytherin girls were incredibly good liars, and not one giggle or impish smirk came from them. Of course, they knew that Blaire really hadn’t had a thing going on with Jereff, as she had told them, and they were rather trying to use the rumour to further the edge on Alex.
Blaire finally took her step in to join the fun, “Hm…”, Blaire responded, then looked back at Alex. “’ey, Alex. ‘ow would you say Jereff kisses? I want to say ruggedly, but eet ‘as got zis delicate touch about ‘im. What do you zink?” She grinned malevolently, ready to enter the potentially dangerous zone, as usual.
Re: Rumors, Rumors [3.12.09; ISO: Blaire]
[Ooc: This kind of reminds me of Mean Girls in some REALLY weird way. Hahaha]
What had Alex done to deserve such a heinous rumor to start about her? Nothing! As far as she was concerned, she minded her own bloody business. She didn't step on toes (unless they stepped on hers first) she didn't start rumors herself... She was a completely innocent target! So why did people like to bloody prey on her? Were their lives so meaningless and boring that they had to make up stories about Alex's boyfriend and her arch nemesis having intimate relations with each other?! Apparently. If Alex ever found the person that started the ridiculous rumor, it would be the last day that they would ever live. Because honestly. It had to be a rumor. Jereff would never cheat on Alex. Especially with someone as disgusting as Blaire Blackwit. Lucky for Alex, she hadn't seen Blaire since Elsie had told her what she had heard in this very room.
Apparently Alex's luck was about to run out. The door opened to the Student Center, and Blaire Blackwit came strutting in with two other Slytherin girls. Alex hated it. Blaire looked so fierce. The way she was walking in with that long, thick brown hair, two girls permanently fastened by her side... How come most girls had to travel in packs of at least three or four? Did they all have complete and utter issues with being alone? What the bloody hell was wrong with them? Alex would go insane if she was around a posse of girls all the time! Girls were bitches. Period. End of discussion. Alex excused herself from that generalization because she wasn't the typical female. In fact, she figured that she thought more like a guy at certain times. But only when it came to logical reasoning. She was spared the stupidity of a male and the bitchiness of a female. If only others could be as "enlightened" as she.
The three Slytherin girls continued into the room, and took a seat at a table. Fantastic. They were going to leave her alone. Personally, Alex wasn't sure if she could handle a scene with them at the moment. She had been angry enough because of all the rumors flying around. She didn't want them shoved in her face. Knowing Blaire she would try and use them to her advantage. Pretend they were true. But they're weren't. They weren't true at all, and Alex was going to stubbornly maintain that fact. And anyone that tried to tell her they were sorry for her "misfortune," she was going to punch them in the bloody faces. They were scum sucking rodents. Bottom dwellers. People that fed on everyone else's misery. Oh how she despised all of them. It was mirrored on her face as well, a scowl evident on her lips, her arms folded across her chest.
“Hm…” she heard the French lilt escape from Blaire's lips, and Alex mentally prepared herself for battle. So Blaire didn't want to leave her alone, huh? Well then. Alex was going to fight her off, and Alex was going to win. She wasn't going to sit here while people continued to spread the stupid rumors. She was going to kill them, right at the source. Which she could only assume was Blaire, the she-devil herself. “’ey, Alex. ‘ow would you say Jereff kisses? I want to say ruggedly, but eet ‘as got zis delicate touch about ‘im. What do you zink?” Blaire asked, a grin coming across her face. Alex's temper flared and fire burned in her eyes. How Jereff kisses?!?!?! As if Blaire would even know! She didn't know. She had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. She was full of it! This, however, didn't soothe Alex's raging temper. This was war.
"You don't even know what you're talking about," Alex snapped in response, her teeth gritting painfully. She couldn't lose her temper. She had to calm herself down, and keep her cool. There was no way in hell that she was going to let Blaire get to her, right? "Is your life really so pathetic and lonely that you have to go around making up rumors about you getting some with my boyfriend?" Alex asked, placing emphasis on the words pathetic, lonely, and boyfriend. If anything, she wanted to at least insult Blaire by pointing out that Alex WAS dating someone, while Blaire could just make up rumors. She felt a pang of guilt for using her relationship with Jereff in a materialistic and tasteless way, but she had to win. She had to win somehow.
It wasn’t in Blaire’s nature to be mean. If you had run into her when she was at Beauxbatons, she would have proven to be a pretty nice person, a little icy, but nice. There were few enemies she had, and those she did have, she would tend to hold grudges rather than really show them. But things had changed since then. Things had really changed. And when they did, Blaire came out to be a different person. Her hatred was more inclined and she appeared much more cold than before.
Alex and her were enemies, and if this had been so at Beauxbatons, Blaire would of probably kept her grudge inside once again. But now, Blaire felt weak. There was always the fact that Blaire was a huge perfectionist that made her feel so, because, in her eyes, she couldn’t seem to do anything right. But, that wasn’t really wasn’t it. Her mother died, and she wanted more than anything to bring her back. But she couldn’t, no matter how hard she tried, she would never be able to go back and save her mother from those filthy muggles, and that alone, made Blaire feel like the weakest person in the world. So, she needed to seek places where she could get the strength; where she could feel powerful and overriding. This, she found in taking someone she really hated, like Alex, and putting them down whenever she could.
That’s why Blaire’s eyes gleamed when Alex began her response. She had touched a spot, she knew, and she was ready to throw it right back at the mudblood. "You don't even know what you're talking about," Alex snapped, and Blaire’s grin rose and her eyebrow raised. Cel giggled a bit and said to Blaire and Natalie, “I bet she hasn’t even kissed him yet”. Blaire grinned at her, but was a little eager to hear what Alex was going to say next. "Is your life really so pathetic and lonely that you have to go around making up rumors about you getting some with my boyfriend?"
This was a response that hit Blaire. Any other thing would go right past her. Your ugly. Your mean. You don’t have a boyfriend. Any of it Would be woosh. Gone. Blaire didn’t care much about what people thought about her. But Alex telling her that her pathetic and lonely was something she couldn’t let pass her by. Mainly because her life did feel pathetic and she sure as hell felt lonely. No one was ever there to comfort her. Her mother was dead, and her father was losing his mind. Blaire had completely lost her trust on muggleborns, and all muggles, and so friends were few. Many Slytherins were too caught up in themselves to care about any one else, and any other house didn’t care much for a Slytherin who didn’t like muggleborns. But they all didn’t really know what had happened in Blaire’s life that made her this way. They didn’t see what there really was a good person under her skin, and Blaire didn’t want to show them it because she was afraid of her weaknesses being opened up, for if they did, she wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Anger flared in Blaire eyes, but the rest of her body kept its steady and cold appearance. Natalie leaned in and snarled, “Told you she wouldn’t believe it,” but Blaire ignored it, this was between Alex and Blaire alone now. She turned her position in the chair slightly so that she was better facing Alex. “First off,” Blaire began, in her voice slightly stern and anger once again slightly evident in it, “You don’t know anytheeng about me or my life, so don’t pretend like you do.” Blaire expressions calmed slightly, “Secondly, I don’t start rumours, and even eef I deed, I zeenk I could start somezing better zan me getting some weeth your boyfriend.”
Blaire had said enough to defend herself, now she was ready to throw it back at Alex. “Zirdly” her voice smooth and condescending, “you should know that Jereff came to me.” Blaire looked deep in Alex’s eyes, her lying mask taking no heave to remove itself from her face. She laughed slightly, “And ‘e’s a much better lier zan I zought ‘e would be”. She wanted to throw that in to wary Alex.
“Anyway,” she continued, turning her body around back to Cel, Natalie, and the Ravenclaw who had now joined them to help them set the pieces on her board, of which, Abbott was walking across. “You can ‘ave ‘im aneeway, I’m done with ‘im,” her voiced sounded jaded, though she was still anticipating Alex’s next move. She knew the Hufflepuff wouldn’t quite be done yet.
Re: Rumors, Rumors [3.12.09; ISO: Blaire]
Upon Alex's remark, anger flared in Blaire's eyes, and Alex realized that she had indeed hit a nerve. Smug satisfaction swelled up inside of her, and she had the daring urge to utter "Touché," but she kept her silence, waiting to see what Blaire was going to say. Not that it really mattered. Alex knew she was going to try and throw a knife back at Alex, but Alex would still be able to remember that Blaire was offended by someone telling her her life was lonely and pathetic. The boyfriend thing probably hadn't been much of a blow, because as far as Alex knew (as much as she didn't want to admit it) Blaire was extremely capable of finding a boyfriend if she ever wanted one. Not in Jereff Stranger, but in some other male who apparently liked ice cold bitches for girlfriends. Who would really want to do that to themselves? Alex would kill herself before she dated the male equivalent to Blaire.
“First off,” Blaire started, her voice sounding cross and furious. Alex snickered, and shook her head. What a waste of time. “You don’t know anytheeng about me or my life, so don’t pretend like you do.” Aw. Was she supposed to be offended by that? Why would Alex EVER want to get to know Blaire? Usually you had to have some good traits to build off of if you wanted people to spend time with you. Blaire? Well, let's just say she was considerably lacking in that general area. “Secondly, I don’t start rumours, and even eef I deed, I zeenk I could start somezing better zan me getting some weeth your boyfriend.” Prove it, Alex wanted to mutter. But again, she kept her silence. “Zirdly” Blaire started. Now her voice was smooth, not to defensive anymore. “you should know that Jereff came to me.” Alex narrowed her eyes. One glance around the Student Center told her that there would be no witnesses if she just socked that snot nosed bint in the face. Except for her two brainwashed friends. But Alex could take care of them to. Three prissy girly girls again Alex? Easy. “And ‘e’s a much better lier zan I zought ‘e would be. Anyway, you can ‘ave ‘im aneeway, I’m done with ‘im.”
Okay, that was it. Alex REALLY wanted to punch that two faced brat with all the force inside of her. She had gotten in fights before. There was nothing holding her back. She didn't care if she got in detention for it. What did it matter, really? It didn't matter at ALL. It would be the greatness and glory of doing the deed, actually. And imagine how satisfying. Punching the bint right in the face and watching her cry through a bloody nose. If Alex was lucky, she would break it too. She had heard that if you punched a nose a certain way it could puncture the brain and kill the person. At the moment, Alex wasn't very against trying to find out first hand. But no, that was taking it too far. Alex wasn't aiming to kill, of course. She just wanted to inflict pain. To teach this stupid girl a lesson. Because someone had to. The survival of Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry depended on it.
But Alex couldn't lose her cool just yet. That would show Blaire that she had won. So no, she was going to play along. "Apparently that touched a nerve, didn't it Blackwit?" Alex replied, giving Blaire a sweet smile and delivering her line with a sappy, sugary voice. "Now let's see...firstly," Alex said, answering Blaire's first, second, third attacks in the same manner. "I honestly coulnd't care less to get to know you. Who would WANT to, other than those brainwashed idiots?" Alex said, gesturing toward Blaire's friends. "Secondly...oh what was secondly. That you don't like starting rumors?" Alex said, recounting. "If every single thing that came out of your mouth wasn't a lie, I might actually believe you. But seeing as you've already created your reputation of a lying bitch here, there's no need to start telling the truth now." Alex was really having to fight to not start pounding the girl's face in, but she knew she couldn't fight with force. This was all a mental battle. "And...thridly," Alex started, "The day that Jereff came to you would be the day he went blind, deaf and dumb. And thanks for "giving" him back to me. It's SUCH a kind gesture seeing as you never even had him at all."
There. Alex had gotten it all out and she still wanted to pummel Blaire. That probably wasn't a good sign. "Why don't you just get on with your meaningless life and stop trying to ruin everyone else's." Deciding to throw in a bit of arrogance, Alex added, "Don't hate me 'cause you're jealous." There was an evident tone of mockery and jest in her voice, and the way it sounded just made Alex laugh. It was something that she could very well see Blaire saying to someone else. Merlin. What meaningless prats.
Re: Rumors, Rumors [3.12.09; ISO: Blaire]"Apparently that touched a nerve, didn't it Blackwit?" Alex replied, her voice delivered in the same slithery sort of way as Blaire’s. Blaire had her back turned to Alex, arranging the last of the chest pieces on her and Natalie’s chest board. She was a bit disappointed in herself for letting her emotions be seen like that, but it made her all more aware of her actions and gestures. Her eyes were in concentrating over-looking the board, but her ears were listening intently to Alex responses, and her smirk was evidence that she was enjoying taunting her adversary.
"Now let's see...firstly," Alex said, answering Blaire's first, second, third attacks in the same manner. "I honestly couldn't care less to get to know you. Who would WANT to, other than those brainwashed idiots?" Alex said, gesturing toward Blaire's friends. Blaire’s smirk was still in place, and her barrier was working better than ever to let Alex’s comment bounce off of her. Blaire didn’t need Alex’s opinion of how people saw Blaire. Blaire had herself convinced that all she really did need was these “brainwashed idiots” Alex spoke of, or rather, Slytherins. And though she would do much better with the good sort of folk she had been friends with at Beauxbatons. If anything, Alex’s retort was just evidence that, whether Alex admitted or not, Blaire had gotten to her as well, even if it had been a bit, and Alex, as well, found the need to defend herself. Cel and Natalie glared their eyes with despise at Alex calling them brainwashed. They didn’t open their mouths, however, as they were expecting Blaire to take care of her own business. Blaire kept her face cold and unaffected.
"Secondly...oh what was secondly. That you don't like starting rumors?" Alex said, recounting. "If every single thing that came out of your mouth wasn't a lie, I might actually believe you. But seeing as you've already created your reputation of a lying bitch here, there's no need to start telling the truth now." Blaire was making her first move in the Chess game, her face had not changed and she did not care if Alex had called her a liar, because Blaire was. She wasn’t a constant liar, but when there opened an opportunity like this to lie and get something from it, Blaire was rather good at it. And being called a bitch wasn't a first. She moved one of her pawns.
"And...thridly," Alex started, "The day that Jereff came to you would be the day he went blind, deaf and dumb. And thanks for "giving" him back to me. It's SUCH a kind gesture seeing as you never even had him at all." Blaire’s grin was at its greater malevolence. Once again, Alex’s comments had gone past her sentiments and were rather fueling Blaire’s snide satisfactory. If there was something Blaire knew about Alex was that the girl was very prone to break out into a fight. With such a thought, Blaire reached into the inside of her cloak secretly and put her wand down her sleeve so quickly and smoothly that it would go unnoticed by Alex. Blaire wasn’t much a physical fighter, so her wand would be ready if ever she need it.
"Don't hate me 'cause you're jealous." Alex slipped in with a mocking voice. Her Slytherin friends laughed and whispered something to each other as Blaire turned her face around to Alex’s, her deep, blue ocean eyes glowering and the rest of her face looking pleased and untouched. She smoothly crossed her long, gliding legs with ease and lifted her angelic posture. As far as it was from the truth, Blaire looked like she didn’t have a care in the world.
“Well zat was a rather enjoyable response, Alex,” she spoke, her composure almost irritating. Her words floated over her shoulder until she turned her delicate body all the way around to Alex once again. She rested her elbow on the arm of the chair and rested her hand on her chin, as if she was contemplating over something – and she was. If there was something Blaire had grown good at, it was picking apart people. She knew Alex didn’t care anything Blaire had called her a mudblood or criticized her muggle heritage, but self-security was something any girl – even Alex – was a little wary about. “But who’s your filthy, meeserable muggleborn mouth trying to convince?” her eyes sneering at the words ‘filthy, miserable muggleborn’ and her face looking nonetheless untroubled.
“Surely not my envious self, or any of my apparently brainwashed friends ‘ere” looking back at those at the table who grinned as Blaire laughed lightly. Blaire lifted herself from the chair and started to saunter smoothly towards Alex. She was much more of a verbal sort of person, but Blaire was in a fitting mood to further intimidate Alex. The tomboy was a hard sort to intimidate, but whether Blaire did so or not, at least she would show that the intimidation didn’t go vice versa.
When she was about a metre from Alex, a distance close, but far enough away to keep a preparing distance, she kept her wand ready to slid out of her sleeve and into her hand if she needed it. Her other hand was rested on her small waist. Her icy eyes looked over Alex, as if they were pointing out and mocking every appalling aspect of the girl she regarded. “We all know what your really edging for, so why don’t you let it out, ‘m?”. She was standing her ground, ready to take any bullets, but still looking as if she wasn’t expecting anything. If Alex really wanted to pound her, she would, and if Blaire got the smack, she could take it just to get her share in.
She raised her eyebrow slightly and she was still grinning satisfyingly. There wouldn’t be anything more fulfilling, though, then getting the chance to clobber Alex.
