Rune Metal
Although steel is the metal of choice for most tools and weapons (though the quality of the steel varies from place to place) there is a rare and valuable alternative. Known as Rune Metal, this light but incredibly durable material is found in small amounts in fairly random locations spread across the face of the world. It is believed that when the Gods do battle against the ever growing forces of Chaos, bits of their weapons and armor fall to the earth for mortals to find.
Rune Metal is impossible to forge with normal tools. However, someone with an understanding of the proper incantations can slowly shape the stuff into any form that can be conceived. Also, certain powerful rituals require Rune Metal for their efficacy, which is invariably consumed in the process.
