Age: 15
Code: Rita Skeeter, Illegal, Animagus
IC
Name: Selene Talcrom
Nickname(s): Sel, Oliviana, Oli
DOB: September 30, 1979
Blood: Pureblood
Previous School/House: Hogwarts/Slytherin
Occupation: Daily Prophet, Death Eater
Physical Appearance:
Selene stands at a height of about 5'5'', at her full height, and weighs in at about 130 pounds or so. Selene usually wears tanktops and jeans under her school robes, matching different colors with different patterns and different embroideries. Normally, she wears a long chain, dark silver, with a small sapphire pendant resting just above her bust line. As much as she doesn't look like it, Selene is always the first one to know what looks good with other things, and she's not afraid to speak her mind about it. Her long nails get repainted every day to match her outfit, but are, by default, painted black - because black goes with almost everything. Towards the end summer, Selene usually goes to get a new manicure, getting rid of any chipped or broken nails that she may have aquired over the school year, as well as leveling out her nails. She usually leaves them uncut, untrimmed, so that she has the length of nail that she prefers - just about half an inch away from the tips of her fingers.
Selene's hair is a platinum blonde color with small sections of copper highlights, falling to her midback when straightened, but her collarbone when curled. Usually, she doesn't style her hair, so it normally rests against her back in a loose wave or loose curl, depending on how much time she has in the morning to get ready. Her eyes are a bright, vivid green - without a doubt the brightest and most colorful color that she ever wears or is seen with. Her skin is a pale moonstone color, yet has the hint of a tan along her arms and legs. Her distinguishing factor is a deep purple scar that runs across her left cheek, one that she hasn't been able to heal over, and a large brown mole on the right side of her right theigh.
Her day to day appearance is very pulled together, but at the same time, very formal. Her makeup is either all done, or not done at all - her extent of makeup covering her eyes, foundation, blush, and lips. Usually, her color palate is based on nuetrals, sometimes purples or darker colors. She has one set of piercings, on the lobes of her ears. She normally wears gold or silver hoops, but barely ever chooses anything different.
For meetings, however, she takes the care to put a pitch black robe over any clothes that she's wearing at the current time, which is usually a black gown with some decoration, or something that follows the sort. Occasionally, she's seen in casual clothing - usually when she goes out shopping.
Personality:
The personality of Selene as a woman is much the same that she was during the first years of school, when she was still young and innocent. A rambunctious girl who loves to learn more, whether it was proved true or not, Selene loves to do things that are new or dangerous. Anything that might help her learn more, she'll try once. She absolutely loves brewing Potions, as she was very good in that class, and collected the most knowledge from that class. When she's with her colleagues or people she feels comfortable with, she opens up, and is usually a fun-loving girl, but precautious. She also has the tendency to be very cold - she's normally just so mean to them, that they tend to drift away and leave her alone - to those she doesn't know, which just happens to be a trait passed down by her family. But also, unlike her family, she used to be not very biased on things like wealth or blood purity. When she's around whats left of her family, she tends to be a bit mysterious and always hidden, mostly because she had just met her family before her first year at the school, but she was very comfortable around her brother, who graduated while Selene was in her first year. When she's around her friends - who are very few - she's calm, and is very loyal to them, telling them everything, never lying. Selene is very truthful, and normally never tells a lie unless it's to get her friends out of something that they might've done (a bit like Hermione in the first book).
Selene loves to read, especially about the things she doesn't know anything about, or the things that she's read about and is interested in. She also loves flying on a daily basis as a relief from the stress that occurs every day in her line of work. Her most time occupying hobby is sketching - she sketches almost daily, everyone and everything that she finds inspiration in. She also enjoys writing fantasy stories about what she wants to happen in her life, but not related to her directly.
Selene's sole strength lies in being solitary, and being able to think up things when she's completely alone. From her strength of being alone, other strengths follow, such as her excellence in brewing Potions and being able to complete homework (so to speak) - something she couldn't do before Hogwarts. Other things she is excellent in, and could be considered strengths, is her flying abilities - for learning in one day, she is superb at manipulating her inherited Shooting Star. Another excellence is her studying - she loves to study most things.
Selene's weaknesses lie in her relationships with other people. Ever since she started her schooling in London at the age of five, she had always been classified as a loner, and just be with her set of close friends. When she arrived at Hogwarts, the only people she knew were a group of people off the train, and the only people she was friends with were her brother's friends - who all graduated the same year she arrived. For almost her whole life, she has had an amount of a dozen friends, give or take some. Her weakness at magic lies in History of Magic - she has a rather short attention span.
One of Selene’s worst qualities is that she’s almost too forgiving – if you say something wrong to her one moment, she’ll forgive you the next. She’s done the same thing for years, and it always seems to land her in the worst of places. Selene’s not very prejudiced – she gives everyone a chance before she judges him or her. In fact, she never judges anyone the first time she meets them – she doesn’t like to because it would show that she cares about what someone looks like on the outside.
Selene has a very bad habit of twirling her hair. Normally, when she's nervous, or anxious, she starts twirling a strand of her hair. Twirling hair has been a bad habit for her for a few years, and occasionally some of her hair comes out from twisting it so hard. Her worst fear is that she'll open up to someone so much, and they betray her - one of the reasons why she never gets to know someone. Her greatest influence in life is the movie 'Dead Poets Society', because it showed her that the only way to do the things she wants in life is to try.
After school, however, things changed. Selene became less and less rambunctious to the ones that she knew, outside of her cover job. To those she knew as her fellow Death Eaters, she was mysterious and distant, but at the same time friendly enough where she could get by.
History:
Selene Talcrom was born on September 30 to Gein and Daniel Talcrom in a hospital in London, and was soon put up for adoption, because the Talcroms already had one child, and at the time, thought one was more than enough. Within a week, the Weitzels - Karina and Joseph Weitzel, newlyweds, adopted her. The Weitzels lived in uptown London in a rather large manor, which is where Selene grew up. Ever since she was a little girl, she was always suspicious of her family - how she looked nothing like any of them, even down to the tip of her toes. The Weitzels were a Muggle family, whereas the Talcroms had been a highly placed wizarding family. She grew to Muggle customs, went through her elementary school with nothing extraordinarily special happening, until a few months after she turned 10 years old.
The day she received her letter accepting her to Hogwarts had been the worst day of her life so far - her boyfriend over about a half a year (she had just discovered the male species) had just broken up with her, and her and her mother had just sat down to dinner when an owl delivered the letter - and revealed the truth to Selene. Over the next week, she learned about her adoptive history and her real family, moving in with them before the beginning of her Hogwarts career (they decided that after all, two children wouldn't be that big of a deal (Just coincidence that it was after she found out she was a witch)). In a small amount of time, she learned much about her family's history - that they were always friends with Death Eaters, or Death Eaters themselves. She had expectations from the day she came into that family - she was expected to be a Slytherin to the very tip of the 'n'. Before she arrived at the school, however, she got in a fight with one of their family's friends, who just happened to pull out a cursed knife - cursed with a hex to repel all healing, but let it scar - and cut her right below her left eye, deeply.
When she went to Hogwarts, she was a bit concerned. It seemed like everyone who was somebody knew each other, and she was the only one left out. Her family's expectations for her followed through - Selene hoped to become a Slytherin, but other things happened - she grew to be friends with a set of Gryffindors - Parvarti Patil and Lavender Brown. After all, they were some of the first students that she met while on the train her first year. When they had gotten sorted, and they were in different houses, at first the relationship was strained, but they worked through it. When she sent an owl to her parents about her new friends, at first they were a bit reluctant to let her be friends with them - being the normal Slytherins they were trained to be - but in time, grew to help Selene through her interhouse relationships.
Through her first three years of school at Hogwarts, she chose to stay out of the events happening at the school - first year, never knowing about the Sorcerers Stone, second year, staying out of the business about the Chamber of Secrets (yet still being precautious, as she is), and in her third, the escape of Sirius Black. Though her family was a long line of Death Eaters, she never got involved in their business, which also involved the escape. However, in her fourth year, she went to the Yule Ball with another Ravenclaw in the same year, only as friends, and joined in the mass of those cheering on Cedric Diggory in the Triwizard Tournament. She was also one of the many people mourning the death of Cedric after his inconvenient death in her fourth year. Also during the beginning half of Selene's fourth year, Selene received a letter from her brother, saying that Order members posing to be Death Eaters, just a few weeks after she had arrived at the school, had slaughtered their mother and father. Ever since her fourth year, she has been fighting against the Order, along side her brother, who - aside from all his charming qualities - is a Death Eater.
After the events during her fifth year in the Ministry - Selene having found out all the small details from her brother - however, in her fifth year, Selene has seen the error of her choices concerning her brother, and has turned her back to the remainder of her family. She no longer trusts her brother, any Death Eaters, and is reluctant to trust an Order member.
However, as the sixth year started into full swing, she learned that it is better to have family and not complain than complain and loose your family. On September 4th, Selene’s brother, Jakob Talcrom, was found dead in his home. Her brother’s death masked the beginning of an extremely eventful year. As she turned 17 that September, she turned to ways that would not have described herself a year before. Researching on all the Dark Magics that she could, she planned to give herself entirely to the man who her brother had worked for. On the night of April 16th, when the school was attacked, Selene took it to do all that she could to help with those that she had not enlisted yet. In that battle, she met Bellatrix Lestrange, and watched her mercilessly kill a student in the school.
The time after the battle was a recovery period. The Hospital Wing was filled, and Selene stood waiting in line to get a thin, deep cut in her right side healed. It took nearly a day for her to get the healing that she needed, so in effect, a thin black line still runs across her side, as a memorabilia of that night. After the entire Hospital Wing was cleared of injured, school started back in full swing – and Selene was out of resources. During that summer break, Selene spent the entire time at her old manor, which still had a majority of the books that Jakob had owned in the dusty shelves of the library he never used.
Seventh year started, almost without a hitch at first. Research continued as normal, and school was harder than ever, to prepare for NEWTs. The amount of homework that teachers pumped into them at that stage was almost too much that she couldn’t complete the research that she had left to do before she enlisted for the Death Eaters straight out of Hogwarts. What happened merely a year and a month after the attack was what stopped her plans dead in the tracks that she had left for herself.
Dumbledore was killed, almost at the same time that Harry Potter killed Voldemort. Suddenly, enlisting for being a Death Eater didn’t seem the right thing to do at the time. So, instead of enlisting for being a Death Eater right off the bat, she turned to something a little more practical. After taking her NEWTs, she got a job as a journalist for the Daily Prophet, taking over for spreading gossip where Rita Skeeter left off in her fourth year. It seemed like the best thing to do at the time, and if evil ever returned – well, at least she’d have something to do in her spare time besides stare at the ceiling.
When she got word from Percy Weasley, an old friend from her first year at Hogwarts, that there was a new Dark Lord in town, she immediately got prepared. Pitch black robes, everything that she thought she would need, she got. It was the night of January 21st when she gave herself entirely to the side of evil. Branded by the Dark Mark, she continues to serve to this day for Lord Maleham.
Roleplay Sample:
((During her seventh year))
Selene’s foot struck the edge of a rather hard, stone bench near the center of the courtyard, the movement in itself in fury. She was mad; of course, as any person would be in her situation. For the past few days, she’d been having nightmares again – memories of how she treated Jake before he died, memories of her lifetime before she had ever met him. It was as if someone was showing her the memories that made her the maddest, and even the memories that she looked back on to make her happy.
And, of course, the nightmares were reoccuring – meaning that the pictures that horrified her the most were planted in her mind all day long.
Search long and deep enough for a home, and you’ll find something that’s not generally wanted. That’s exactly what Selene had said the moment she realized that going to the Talcroms was not the greatest idea. And, lately, when she realized that she would have rather been with the Talcroms than the way she was now.
Alone. Sick, and alone.
Winter was affecting her in ways that she hadn’t been affected by before. An illness had spread through her body, and now she spent most of the day sniffling and coughing. The flu wasn’t one of her favorite illnesses. And, she had to get better by Halloween. If there was one holiday that Selene celebrated, it was Halloween. She’d had a tradition, ever since she was young, and there was no way that she was going to give it up now. Over the summer, she had gotten the necessary supplies – a new ouija board (the previous one hadn’t worked the year before, so it was the best to get a new one), a new set of vanilla and cinnamon scented candles, and an outfit that had caught her eye.
None of her dormmates was interested in such activities, so to do her tradition, she had to be alone. The night of the Ball, none of her housemates would even be in the dorms. She had an entire room to herself, as per usual. Heck, the whole tradition was how she got interested in meeting ghosts in the first place.
Taking a deep breath, her eyes scanned the courtyard. Great, no one had seen her foolishly kick an inanimate object that hurt her foot more than she hurt the bench. Now, her foot was screaming in pain, and there was nothing to do about it. With a harsh cough, and a sigh, she seated herself on the bench that she had offended.
“Sorry, bench, taking out frustrations.”
Closing her eyes for a moment, then opening them again, tears filled her eyes. A picture was still in the front of her brain – her brother. God, how she missed Jake. Wiping her tears away, she reached into the pocket of the jacket he had gotten for her the summer before he died.
With a grin, Jake looked up at his sister, handing her the package. Selene gave Jake a curious glance with a raised eyebrow, gently unwrapping the present. Laying on the inside of the black and blue wrapping paper was a denim jacket – a trenchcoat. Lined with wool, the jacket looked rather warm for the climate that she was in, and she looked up at Jake with an even higher raised eyebrow
“It’s sure to get cold this winter, Selly, I wouldn’t want you to get cold.”
Blinking a few times, she pulled out a picture from her pocket. A picture of a young man, around the age of 20, with light brown hair and sparkling emerald eyes. Her brother. Flipping it over, she read the back out loud.
“Jakob Talcrom, 20.”
Sighing again as she flipped the picture to the front, she slipped it back into her pocket and stared forward across the field. Why was it, every day that she felt good for even a moment, it was always ruined by something bad?
