Shade vs. Hunter help
Okay, I'm frustrated. Am I just not suppose to win vs. a hunter 1v1?
First... I get shot at with an arrow, and turn to see the kobold about 400units from me. I /stick to him and he turns and sprints, so i sprint to catch up. Next, there is a pet on me (okay, no big deal, but it still hurts). Now, I'm being kited, what are you suppose to do? Next, tinkle-bell sprinkled her dust around him and he started to take off even faster.
I figured he was just hunter-speeding away to get another shot off at me, so I turn in the opposite direction to continue my sprint (i've outdistanced the pet by now). I ran for quite a distance (at least 30 seconds going away from where I had last seen the hunter). I then stealthed and sat down to try and regen some endurance, but not but 5 secs later the pet comes up from over a hill and bites me. I snare the pet and try to take off again, but got pummeled by a couple arrows.
I'm not the best at 1v1, so.. what should I have done? what do you guys do when a hunter shoots you from a short distance away?

Re: Shade vs. Hunter help
Hunters are an over-whined class. Their arrows hurt. Their melee hurts. They can kite extremely well. They have Ignore Pain. They have Pierce-resistant armor. Their pet hurts.
If a Hunter gets the jump on me, it's pretty much game-over. If I get the jump on the Hunter, he's still got a shot at outmeleeing me (rare, but it happens). If I get to use the PA chain, the fight's probably mine.
In that situation, I don't know of anything you could've done. Pop shade form, sprint after him, keep drinking endurance potions and hope that you decided to put a point into Long Wind. That's the best I can offer.

Re: Shade vs. Hunter help
If you were to hit the pet immediately after you noticed the hunter using his sprint spell, you would have broke it and he would have lost some valuable kiting distance. That's not the total solution, but it's good make it an instant reflex when that situation occurs again.
Since you have evade 7 you will most likely evade a couple arrows and melee swings, as well as 2/3 of the pet attacks. Usually a hunter is at a disadvantage if he shoots from so close. If you waste time in closing the distance then he gains more of an even balance.
If a hunter (or archer) sets up better, he will be at 1000 - 1500 range, and be hoping you charge him instead of flee. If the pet isn't closer than about 1500ish range then you will be considered too far away for the hunter to command him to attack.
Most areas have some sort of hill or wall you can run behind to break his LOS, so if you were outside of pet range then you will be able to escape. If you travel without end pots then you are foolishly unprepared, and that would be your fault, not the hunter's overpoweredness.
The hunter pet works best against archers who TS and have a jump on the hunter. It doesn't work so well against assassins. And only rarely does a situation occur where he can use the pet to uncover you.
Just some food for thought. I know it doesn't solve much, but it might help you make some quicker decisions the next time a hunter gets the jump on you.

I was unaware that attacking their pet would break their speed instant. Assumed it worked like their stealth- where their pet can be in combat and they can stay stealthed as long as they don't do anything but move around.

The main thing I have found that you need to watch out for is the hunters that have a pet buffed to the hilt and on defensive stashed somewhere near....they lose that initial damage boost while it runs into the fight but my god does it hurt once they get there

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't trying to say Hunters were impossible - I have beaten them down when I've caught them off guard, and this one did get a jump on me. What frustrated me was that it took a couple minutes for that whole scene to unfold, and I felt that there was nothing I could do.

I have found hunters to always be bad news for me as an infiltrator. Between IP, the spear, and the pet, I don't win many fights with hunters. Those pets buffed hurt.

If they try to kite you Garrote them; or Snow Shower (I think; rear Position from CD)
Re: Shade vs. Hunter help
If the Hunter is already out of melee range, and hasn't depleted his end, you CAN'T catch him, unless you break his speed right away, AND you use an end pot, AND he does not. Not only do you have to do everything right, he has to do something wrong. Not a good bet.
If there is something to break LOS nearby, this sometimes works: don't chase, let the Hunter run away on speed. Whip out your backup snare-envenomed weapon, wack the pet once, and sprint away from the Hunter toward your LOS-breaker. Pop an end pot, and keep sprinting. If your lucky, this will open distance between you and the pet, and a whole lot of distance between you and the Hunter, as he wasted his speed burst running away from you.
At this point, you want to stealth, sit for a few seconds, and repoison your weapons, while you wait for Fido to show up. I've found that in this situation, most Hunters will let stop to regain their own end. This lets their doggie get far enough ahead of them that you can dump the perf chain on the pet and kill it before the Hunter targets you again. This is all a pain to do, and tricky, but it works sometimes.
Possible variant on this if there is a convenient camp of agro mobs near your flight path . . . position yourself so that the pet runs thru agro mobs while pursuing you? Have wondered how that would work, but have never been in a position to try it.

Its called playing landmines, it works on people who have /follow on you as well. You just have to learn the aggro radius of mobs, and skirt the outside edge so that people on follow or pets run right through them. I've caused group wipes doing that.
