Shaolin Soccer for real this time
Well after delaying the theatrical release for almost two years, the official site for the movie's now up at www.miramax.com/shaolin_s...index.html . I've been told the dub is actually satisfactory, but I still refuse to see it.

I prefer the subtitle over the dub.
Also, it is censored. Near the end of the original version, when the goalie gets his clothes torn off, he is nude. In the corrupted version, they put some black shorts on him.
Not that I wanted to see that anyway, but just pointing out that they DID censor it.

I didn't see the whole dubbed version, just the trailer for the dubbed version. Still, I have a feeling that the dubbed version will be lame. Also, the music(kung fu fighting) they added really makes me cringe and wish for immediate deafness.

I just saw this..
Today, I went to see Shaolin Soccer at a local independent theater. They were showing the Miramax version (which is unusual for that theater), and even though I did not see the original, I know they modified the movie.
First, all the signs that the audience was supposed to read, were changed from chinese to english. For example, the team names were written in english on the scoreboard. Also, the shaolin business card was also altered.
I also, am pretty sure they changed the music, they used 'Kool and the Gang's 'Celebration, during the first dance routine, and at the end of the film. The ending credits featured some awful version of the disco song 'Kung Fu Fighting'.
Having not seen the original, and since I do not speak Chinese, I can only guess that these script changes were due to the work of disney. When you find out that team evil used drugs to get their newfound performance, Hung says they used 'american drugs'. Also, when Mui joins the team at the end, Sing makes a joke about her looking like E.T.
I felt so weird watching this, knowing I was not seeing the original work. So, I did just buy a copy of the Hong Kong edition on ebay.
