Star Wars Galaxies...
I've been keeping an eye on SWG and will definitely try it when it goes live. Besides the attraction of being able to play a saber weilding Jedi (although they have stated that becoming a Jedi will be very difficult to prevent hordes of them running around) the PvP system looks really interesting. For example, say you are a Smuggler and fail to deliver your cargo. A bounty gets put on your head. Meanwhile another player whose chosen profession is a Bounty Hunter gets a contract to track you down and terminate you. So you have to run and hide from a real live person who's tracking you down to gank you.
Some other cool features include:
2.16 Will there be a radar in the game?
Yes. The radar, like all other windows and bars, can be moved around on screen and resized. If you maximum it, the radar becomes a map of the areas that you have actually explored.
2.33 Will there be a world map?
Yes. In addition to your radar, SWG provides a planetary map with critical information such as the locations of major cities, landmarks, and points of interest. Shop owners can register to be included in the listings as well. Individual players can place their own markers on their maps and name them. Any of these markers can be turned into an active "waypoint" to help navigation
11.15 Is ALT-Tab going to be disabled in the game?
Our current thought is that we are not going to disable ALT-TAB. It might limit some hacking, but a determined hacker can easily get around it, especially in newer versions of Windows like Win2k or XP. It would mostly be a small inconvenience to them and a big inconvenience to everyone else.
5.27 What is the Marketplace?
The marketplace is an in-game auction system attached to spaceports. You can put items up for auction at the market, setting a time limit for the auction and a floor bid, or setting a single price if you want to make the item an "instant sale" item. You can browse auctions and sales from any marketplace terminal in the galaxy, but you have to go the spaceport where the item is in order to collect it after you buy it. The marketplace is not free - they take a cut off of any sale, and withdrawing an item once posted also costs credits.
10.01 Will I be able to own a house or building in SWG?
Yes, we intend to allow players to place and own buildings and structures, and control access to them. We have plans to prevent overcrowding of buildings and structures--there will be tight limits.
10.04 Can I own a shop?
If you own a suitable structure, you can hire an NPC to run a shop there for you. You will need to supply the stock for the shop, and you get to set the sale and purchase prices for the goods you sell and wish to buy. You'll have to pay the NPC out of the shop earnings, however, or they'll quit.
10.05 Will I be able to throw people out of my cantina or shop?
You can eject people from your structures, and you may also permanently ban unwanted people from you structures as well.
10.08 Will there be player-run cities in the game?
Yes. If enough players colonize a portion of the map, they will be able to declare themselves to be a city, elect city officials, decide what powers officials can have, and determine local laws and factional alignment.
10.09 If a group of players settles a town, will they be able to set up defenses for it?
Yes, you can build walls, turrets, minefields, etc., to defend your towns.
9.01 Will I be able to own a vehicle?
That's the plan. Fantastic vehicles are part of Star Wars and we wouldn't want to deprive fans of this element. We're hoping to include a number of different vehicles for players to buy, use, and modify.
9.05 Will there be pets in the game?
Yes. Players will be able to buy and raise various Star Wars creatures. Players can also own a wide variety of droids to function as sidekicks, assistants, and, in some cases, pets.
12.24 What features will Player Associations have?
Player associations, when founded, grant a number of abilities to the PA leader. The PA leader can choose to grant these permissions to other members as well. Using these features, each PA can decide what sort of structure they want to have; PAs can create ruling councils or more open structures or other structures based on how they set up their permissions for members.
Among these abilities are: Sponsor someone for membership, accept a sponsored candidate as a member, kick someone from the PA, disband the PA, send mail to everyone in the PA, grant a title to a PA member (titles show up in your character sheet and when you are examined), change the PA's name and abbreviation (abbreviations show up next to members' names in the world), withdraw money from the PA's bank account, and declare war with other PA's. Any member can set which PA member they are loyal to. Every week, the PA member with the most people directly loyal to them becomes the PA's leader
Also they are already working on a Space Expansion with pilotable space craft, taking the PvP to a new level with epic space battles. Can't wait to climb into an X-wing and wax a few Tie's
Also my several of my old guildies LoC whom i have known for a couple years and over several games are gonna be playing this and would be awesome for us all to combine into one PA!!!
