Study on Forgiveness: Resurrection Power
Forgiveness.

If we ask the Lord to forgive someone else’s sins- we are interceding and He will forgive those sins. Jesus interceded first on the cross. He asked Father to forgive them for they don’t know what they are doing. Therefore we can ask Father to forgive others of their sin. This will lift the veil of deception off their minds! Sin brings death.

Numbers 30:5
But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.
(Whole Chapter: Numbers 30 In context: Numbers 30:4-6)

Father is not as simple as we would like to believe it is. There are many terms associated with the term father and so it is also with “day”

Day: day, time, year
a.        day (as opposed to night)
b.        day (24 hour period)
1.        as defined by evening and morning in Genesis 1
2.        as a division of time 1b
c.        a working day, a day's journey
d.        days, lifetime (pl.)
e.        time, period (general)
f.        year
g.        temporal references
1.        today
2.        yesterday
3.        tomorrow
4.
Bonds: obligations

Father: father of an individual of God as father of his people head or founder of a household, group, family, or clan ancestor
h.        grandfather, forefathers -- of person
i.        of people
originator or patron of a class, profession, or art of producer, generator (fig.) of benevolence and protection (fig.) term of respect and honour ruler or chief (spec.)

Disallow: to hinder, hold back, forbid, disallow, restrain, frustrate
j.        (Qal) to hinder, hold back
k.        (Hiphil)
1.        to restrain, forbid, frustrate
2.        to restrain, make averse, discourage

Now this is interesting. Look what happens to the husband who does so! While reading this, consider the natural husband but also consider Jesus as the Husband. Then also consider the meaning of husband! That is also revelatory!

Numbers 30:8
But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect: and the LORD shall forgive her.
(Whole Chapter: Numbers 30 In context: Numbers 30:7-9)

Notice the husband will have to make the vow good himself!

Husband:
man
l.        man, male (in contrast to woman, female)
m.        husband
n.        human being, person (in contrast to God)
o.        servant
p.        mankind
q.        champion
r.        great man
whosoever each (adjective

Numbers 30:12
But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void; and the LORD shall forgive her.
(Whole Chapter: Numbers 30 In context: Numbers 30:11-13)

There is a theme wherein the Lord is moving in this Study. It is WORDS. Life and death are in the tongue and what we SAY counts to God!

Psalm 130:4
But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

Feared: to fear, revere, be afraid
s.        (Qal)
1.        to fear, be afraid
2.        to stand in awe of, be awed
3.        to fear, reverence, honour, respect
4.
The Lord forgives so that men will stand in awe of Him, Honor, respect and reverence Him. If we want to have fear of the Lord we must go to Him for forgiveness and we must obey the command to forgive those who have repentant hearts.

The beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord.

Psalm 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Job 28:28
And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Where does that begin? With repentance or asking for forgiveness. We must first forgive others who have trespassed against us so that we may receive forgiveness from the Father. When we realize this “ heart” requirement then we will DO it because of respect for the Lord. This should occur more now than ever possible before because of what Jesus endured for our sakes on the cross.

When we forgive we are also walking in Love. To forgive much is to love much; to forgive little is to love little.

Psalm 37:30
The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

Psalm 49:3
My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

Psalm 51:6
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

Desireth: to delight in, take pleasure in
Truth: firmness, faithfulness, truth
t.        sureness, reliability
u.        stability, continuance
v.        faithfulness, reliableness
Inward Parts: inner regions, hidden recesses, inward parts
Hidden Part: to stop up, shut up, keep close
w.        (Qal)
1.        to stop up
2.        to shut up, keep close
3.        secret (participle)
Know: to know, learn to know 1a to perceive 1a to perceive and see, find out and discern 1a to discriminate, distinguish 1a to know by experience 1a to recognise, admit, acknowledge, confess 1a to consider
1.        to know, be acquainted with
2.        to know (a person carnally)
3.        to know how, be skilful in
4.        to have knowledge, be wise
(Niphal)
1.        to be made known, be or become known, be revealed
2.        to make oneself known
3.        to be perceived
4.        to be instructed
(Piel) to cause to know (Poal) to cause to know (Pual)
1.        to be known
2.        known, one known, acquaintance (participle)
(Hiphil) to make known, declare (Hophal) to be made known (Hithpael) to make oneself known, reveal oneself

Jeremiah 31:34
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Matthew 6:14
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Luke 7:47
Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

Luke 7
46You did not anoint My head with [1] [cheap, ordinary] oil, but she has anointed My feet with [2] [costly, rare] perfume.
47Therefore I tell you, her sins, many [as they are], are forgiven her--because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.
48And He said to her, Your sins are forgiven!

This verse has really caught my attention. To whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. If you truly love you will forgive a lot. Both in number and quality. If you don’t you don’t love. Who is the one he is referring to that loved a lot? The woman towards Jesus! Because she loved him and gave her very best to him, the many sins she had were forgiven her. Jesus loved greatly and was able to forgive great sins! We are to be like Him!

Luke 17:3
Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

Luke 17
3[1] Pay attention and always be on your guard [looking out for one another]. If your brother sins (misses the mark), solemnly tell him so and reprove him, and if he repents (feels sorry for having sinned), forgive him.

Luke 17:4
And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

Notice here that there is a condition to forgiveness being issued. The person who is in the wrong must SAY “ I repent” and we MUST forgive them. That is still the pre-requisite of Father that we come through His Son and ask for forgiveness for the sins we have committed against God. Without the shedding of blood there was no remission of sins. Jesus was given the power to forgive sin, as He was the Unique Son of God. He could read the heart of man. We cannot. We can still choose to forgive without the person repenting. But as God in these situations we are not required to.

Most of the prophet’s work in the Old Testament was standing in the gap and praying for the Lord to forgive the trespasses of the people. This is intercession at its finest! Jesus does the same. He forever makes intercession for us. Our asking Father to forgive those who have not yet come into repentance or even the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, touches the heart of Father to show forth mercy and lovingkindess; forgiving the iniquity of those who have been stubborn to repent. Our intercession prevents them from wander even further away from the Lord. It brings the Lord into the situation. We are agreeing with the heart of the Father and the purpose of Jesus Christ’s ministry on earth and ministry in heaven!

Jesus will forgive those who we ask him to forgive for His Name’s sake. We are more important than we think! We have the power to loose forgiveness on the world yet we tend to stand in judgement. We have the power to bring hope to the world through our prayers of petition asking the Lord to “ forgive them for they don’t know what they are doing” and miss out on the opportunity for mercy to act on their lives and bring them into repentance.

2 Corinthians 2:10
To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

James 5:15
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 2:12
I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
