Studying Boring Old Potions
Annie sat alone at a table in the library. The third year Gryffindor was studying for a potions test she had the next day. Annie was absoulutly horrible at Potions and had almost failed that class last term. Last year she had almost failed potions and she didn't want to even come close to failing that stupid class this year. Most people were always whining about how hard Arithmancy was but to Annie Arithmancy was easy compared to Potions.
"Hi, Annie," came a girl's voice. Alice Granger was approaching the Gryffindor she had once met. Still wearing her robes, she sat her bag on the table. "Mind if I sit? I just came from Muggle Studies."
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"No I don't mind," Annie said to Alice. Annie had known Alice for awhile but she had never really talked to her all that much.
"Is muggle studies easy?" Annie asked. She had not taken muggle studies since she was a half blood.
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"Eh, more or less," she replied. "It's easy enough, it's just kind of time consuming. I don't really know anything about Muggles, so that's why I decided to take it. Thought it might be interesting.
"So, what new classes are you taking this year? Anything good?"
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"The new courses I'm taking this year are Care of Magical Creatures and Divination," Annie told Alice. "I thought about taking muggle studies but I didn't really see the point since I'm a half blood,"
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"I figured I should stay away from Divination," Alice said. "My family's been horrible at Divination for years. I didn't really fancy keeping the tradition going. I signed up for Runes instead.
"Is Divination hard? What have you done so far in it?"
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"My family's ok at divination. Nobody in my family have been seers but the class hasn't really been hard for us," Annie told Alice.
"Divination is kind of easy to me so I've done pretty good in it," Annie said to Alice.
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"That's cool," Alice said. "I guess I'm doing all right in Runes. I just hope I make it out of third year; I don't remember ever having this much homework in life, do you?"
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"Yeah I've had a ton of homework this year," Annie responded. "I thought I had a lot of homework last year but I have way more this year,"
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"Last year was pretty easy compared to this year," Alice admitted. "I hope I make it through everything this year. I'd hate to have to tell my mum and dad that I failed some classes."
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"Last year I almost failed potions," Annie told Alice. "I was so glad when I found out I just managed to pass it. This year Potion's is even harder though,"
Alice sighed. Why so many people had trouble with Potions, she didn't know. "It's sort of like cooking, Annie," she told the Gryffindor. "Aren't you going to learn how to cook some day?"
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"That's not cooking," said Alice, shaking her head. "Well, maybe the TV dinner is. I don't know what that is. But I can cook toast, too."
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"I can make scrambled eggs and soup also," Annie said with a slight shrug. "I think basically everyone can make toast,"
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"Especially wizards," replied Alice. "Just have to toast it with your wand. That'd be nice," Alice added fondly, thinking of how she couldn't use magic outside of school.
"Do you want some help with your homework?" she asked. "I actually do well in potions. Better than any other subject, anyway."
Re: Studying Boring Old Potions
"Yeah that would be great if you could help me with my homework," Annie said with a slight smile. She figured Alice was better at potions then she was because almost everyone seemed better at potions then Annie was.
