Talk to Me 2/?
-Part Two-
Elizabeth was working the late shift at Kelly’s when Johnny and Emily walked in. “Hey guys. What can I get ya?”
“I’ll have a coffee and she’ll have a glass of milk,” Johnny stated as he helped his very pregnant wife sit down.
“Is he always like this Em?” Elizabeth asked bringing them their drinks.
“No, it’s just he’s trying to take care of me. And I love him for it,” she said kissing her husband’s cheek. “How are you doing hun?”
Elizabeth didn’t know what to say. She didn’t even know how she was doing. “I’m fine. I’ve been working a lot lately…not much else to do.”
Johnny knew that she was hurt because he was kept out of the loop as well. The first time that this had ever happened. But Sonny had told him that was because he needed to take care of Emily. And his boss knew that Johnny was going to be pissed but would eventually get over it. The only reason why Johnny wasn’t letting it show was because Emily and their baby needed him to be level-headed. “Have you talked to him?” Johnny asked her as she sat down for her break with them.
“No,” she muttered trying to hold back the tears. For a week now all she had done was work, sketch, and cry. So many tears she wept for the love that would never be.
She hated the fact that Jason had lied; well not lied, left out details. But she knew that when they became friends all those years ago that if it was about business he couldn’t talk about it. So she was pissed for about two minutes.
What hurt the most was how he seemed to find time to comfort everyone else except himself. All she wanted to do was take care of him during this horrible ordeal. All she wanted was for Jason to need her as much as she needed him.
“Elizabeth you know that Jason has been a wreck since you left,” Emily said sadly.
“She’s right on that fact. He’s a walking zombie. He comes to the warehouse and heads straight to his office. I don’t know what you said to him but I’ve never seen him like this. It wasn’t even this bad when he lost Michael.”
Elizabeth couldn’t hold back the tears any longer. She knew it was low blow and she regretted saying it. “I…I told him good-bye. I couldn’t even tell him to his face, I didn’t,” she sobbed, “I couldn’t tell him good-bye to his face because I…I love him so much.”
She lost it. Elizabeth got up and ran out of the desolate diner. Emily and Johnny looked at each other unsure if they should go after her or let her go. They chose the latter. “Well I guess I’ll finish cleaning up so we can close,” Johnny said getting up to put the chairs up.
“I’ll call Jake and tell her what happened. So much for trying to help.” She dialed Jake’s number, “Jake its Em. She left here crying. The only thing good that happened is she admitted that she loves him,” she paused, “Okay we’ll talk to you tomorrow. Night.”
“We did the best we could hun,” he said helping Emily to the door and shutting off the lights.
“Tomorrow is another day,” Emily sighed.
“Tomorrow we get more recruits.”
Reality is for people who lack imagination.
