Teafop, a Tale About Coffee
Teafop: A Tale About Coffee

A not about the name of the story:

The name of the story is a bit misleading. Despite its name, Teafop, the story has nothing to do with tea, and coffee isn't exactly central to the plot (although it is still a story about coffee). Teafop is an acronym for "The Ebb and Flow of Power," and the fact that its acronym contains the word Tea is a coincidence, but it made for a good pun since the story has a lot to do with coffee. Also, the name itself, "The Ebb and Flow of Power" is also a coincidence, but you'll find out about that later.

Now enjoy the latest Dirk Amoeba production, Teafop: A Tale About Coffee!

Chapter zero

It was a lonely evening on Bee Moon. The dusty purple-gray soil was still, for there were no footfalls to disturb it, and no wind was present in the air that was even thin like the soil. The small, paved parking lot around the moon's lone building was nearly empty.

Inside the shop, at a small circular table, was a man, sobbing bitterly. His coffee mug was beside him, cold and untouched for the last hour, during which he had sat and sobbed. He held his head in his hands; or rather he held the bucket that completely covered his head. He was a Yogolo-Pogozagogian, a member of the only civilization known to wear buckets over their heads as masks. He lamented, "My life is a wreck!"

"Mr. H?" a voice called for him.

"There's angel of death, a-callin my name, takin' me to my eternal rest. O, heaven, have mercy and end my life now!"

"Mr. H?" said the odd but familiar voice, this time louder and closer.

"This is it, the end for me," Mr. H said.

"Mr. Haberdasher! We're closing!"

Mr. Haberdasher looked up. There, in front of him was a short, purple robot with a gigantic spherical head. The head had 3 cones: one coming out of the top, left, and right, the one on his left (Mr. H's right, since he was facing him) always stuck out at an upward angle. On the bottom of the sphere was a neck, which made up about half of his height, that widened into a base. Mr. H looked at him icily. "Oh, You."

"Yup," The robot said. "Me."

Mr. H noticed that the robot was wearing a uniform. "So, I guess you work here, at this coffee shop."

"Kind of," the robot said, indicating his nametag. It read "Sook: Owner and Manager"

"Oh," Mr. H said. He then proceeded to bury his bucket-covered face in his three-clawed hands. "Why? Why, why, why? This stupid place put my shop out of business!"

"That so?" Sook said. "Oh well. It's about a half hour past closing time, so you have to leave."

"But Why?" Hr. H asked.

"I need to get this place cleaned and stuff," Sook replied.

"No, why this coffee shop? And for that matter, how?"

Sook made a movement with his head that perfectly imitated a human's "no" gesture. "I don't think you'd believe me."

"Try me," Mr. H said.

Sook sighed and hovered to the kitchen. He produced a can of coffee beans and returned to Mr. Haberdasher's table, pulling up an extra chair and resting on it. "This'll take a while. I really don't think you'll believe this." He grabbed a handful of beans from the can with one of the arms that stuck out from the top half of his neck and munched on them thoughtfully. "And it might take a long time to tell it."

"That's okay, it's not like I have anywhere to be anymore," Mr. Haberdasher said. "The old shop's closed now."

"Fine," said Sook. "Funny you should mention that. This whole thing started about six months ago, in fact it was the very day I last went to your coffee shop…"

Actually.... this isn't Sook's own fic. Other related characters show up later.

I'm going away for a week, so expect chapter 1 no earlier than Sunday.
