The Hunt
With the setting sun at their backs the five set off after the broo. The damp ground, the gently rolling hills, and the fatigue of a long day's march begin to wear on the travellers and their pace is slowed somewhat. After a half hour or so, with the wide grasslands spread out before them bathed in the orange light of sunset, Atan crests a small ridge and stops. Signalling to the others, all five gather at the top of the hill, laying flat.

A farmhouse sits in a small clearing amid a wide swathe of wheatfields a hundred yards or so to the northeast. A narrow trail of smashed wheat stalks, probably the path taken by the broo, runs from the bottom of the ridge straight to the house. There is no sign of movement at the building, but the back door (facing south) of the place is open.

The house itself is a single story structure not much larger than Grungi's house. The southern portion of the roof extends out over a collection of farm tools: two plows, a wheelbarrow, picks, shovels, etc... It isn't more than forty feet from the edge of the wheatfield and a narrow dirt road can be seen winding away from the house toward the east.

[Ruglan concentrates on listening to anything coming from the house]
Ruglan whispers, "I don't see anything, could they still be in the house?"

Re: The Hunt
Everyone is listening and watching intently, but no one can see or hear anything unusual. In fact, it is the lack of sound that is out of the ordinary as farmers tend to be active in the hour before sunset.

Re: The Hunt
Sangraal scans the field, looking for any protruding form hiding amoungst the stalks.
" Is there any broo in the field? Thats where I'd sit if I was on guard duty. Elven eyes are sharper them mine, you all see anything?"
Sangraal closes his mind to the outside world, relaxing his breathing he streches his senses, searching, looking for any sign of the evil that has come this way.
[Sangraal Sense Chaos. Before we move up, Sangraal will also drop back over the ridgeline to cast detect evil/chaos ]

Twilight Farm Attack
"Meneloss wait. Lets approach with caution but ready to fight. I suspect they are gone otherwise we probably would have heard or seen them by now. Me, Ruglan, Sangraal form a skirmish line with Meneloss behind. If possible we should try and fight them in the doorway as they come out, otherwise when we see them we should all stop and engage with missiles first, then melee. Any one have special preparations?"

Re: Twilight Farm Attack
Meneloss stops crawling in the grass and waits for the others (if they can see him such a sneaky elf he is) Then he draws his longsword and follows the tougher folk.

[Can the elves scan the fields first? or anybody with a better spot skill. If they have a guard he'll be hiding in the field somewhere. Lets take our time.]

[As per above Jubilex posting, "Everyone is listening and watching intently, but no one can see or hear anything unusual."]

Atan stands, nocks an arrow and motions again, "Lets move up."

Re: Twilight Farm Attack
Meneloss nods to Atan, and says to Sangraal "We sees nothing. Let us go closer. Maybe they left clues in the house. I am hoping, the farmers had time for running" He draws his sword and positions himself behind the skirmish line close to Sangraal.

Re: Twilight Farm Attack
[My lunch tasted a little ARSY.]

The skirmishers move swiftly to the edge of the wheatfield below the ridge and then creep into the forest of dry stalks. For the first hundred feet or so the house is barely visible through the wheat as the five crouch low. It is a difficult maneuver after such a long march and everyone's thighs begin to burn with the effort. Keeping close to the ground but on their feet with weapons drawn, their eyes constantly scanning for movement, the skirmishers feel the surge of adrenalin pump through their bodies. Step by step they draw closer to the house, and still there is no sign of motion within.

Less than one hundred feet from the house, perhaps fifty from the clearing, and still nothing. To everyone's surprise, particularly Yimris', the young elf gives them away. With his left arm outstretched, an arrow nocked and ready, Yimris suddenly pitches to the ground, landing hard on his elbow and shoulder. His axe, slung across his pack, strikes a random stone with a clang.

The skirmishers stop... motionless, silent. Yimris stays still for a moment before slowly pulling his foot out of a hidden rodent hole. Everyone listens...

Re: Twilight Farm Attack
After thirty seconds or so, with no sign of trouble from the house, Yimris gets back on his feet. As everyone gives each other looks of relief, Atan raises his hand and the skirmishers freeze. A few seconds later and everyone can hear it... thump thump thump thump - the sound of something bipedal moving swiftly through the wheatfield, and it is getting louder...
