The Killer DVD will be CUT
Let Buena Vista know that you won't buy their cut DVD.

I have heard by an EXTREMELY reliable source (NOT AN INTERNET RUMOR) that John Woo is FURIOUS that Disney wouldn't even talk to him about releasing the movie uncut.

It has come to my attention that you intend to to release the classic John Woo-directed Hong Kong film THE KILLER in a 104-minute incarnation. Perhaps you can explain what on Earth gives you the right to censor someone else's movie? The REAL cut of The Killer is 110 minutes; not one second
less. If you go forward with your plan to release The Killer in a
stripped, watered-down version, then I, in turn, will go forward with MY plan to tell everyone I know about the censorship and point out to them where they can get the movie uncut, the way it should be.
And here's the response I got:
Thank you for your email.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns with us. Your comments will be passed along to our Marketing Department for their future consideration.
In other words, it'll be one of a whole batch of e-mails blithely deleted without a moment's hesitation. Can't say I'm surprised.

Well...
It's not the end of the world , there are other releases such as HKL (cropped to 1:80:1 but anamorphic ) it's uncut .

Re: Well...
Maybe it's NOT such a good thing they didn't release it.
THE KILLER is one of the most widely-seen HK films in the US, well known even outside the fanboy circles. A butchered version of this could easily have drawn the ire of the major critics, resulting in negative media attention for Miramax and increased pressure to change their ways. Between the Criterion and Fox Lorber versions, never mind the HK releases, I imagine most people who want THE KILLER have it by now. Not like FIST OF LEGEND, where there's still no worthwhile DVD anywhere with English subs.

Re: Well...
There are good and bad aspects to either path (releasing The Killer or not releasing it). I think it is SLIGHTLY better for us that they didn't (or at least HAVEN'T) released it, since Miramax and Dimension have proven time and again that they are unconcerned about how their practices (most notably their habit of letting unreleased films sit on the shelf for years on end) are viewed by both critics and general audiences.
Re: Well...
you can always get the out of print versions that were released here in the states about 2 years ago. The set of the killer and hard boiled originally retailed for 39.99 but not seperately they retail for about 39.99 used....
pricey but worth it.
of course ideally Criterion would get the rights....that would be an awesome disc....
