The Prohibited Months
The Holy Qur'an, in several ayat, speaks about the Sacred Months or Prohibited Months but does not specifically mention them by name. The Holy Prophet clarified this by saying, "The year is twelve months of which four are sacred, the three consecutive months of Dhul-Qadah, Dhul-Hijjah and Muharram, and Rajab Mudar which comes between Jumaada and Shabaan." (Bukhari) As much as we would want the United States led coalition to cease operations during Ramadan we must not claim the month of Ramadan to be a Prohibited Month. We must not add Ramadan to this list for it would be an innovation. The Qur'an warns us, "Verily transposing (of a Prohibited Month) is an addition to Unbelief..." (9:37).
