The Temple of the Swordelders, part deux
Leaving the Ghurugil to their afternoon activities, as well as Vala, Naredru and Ruglan (since Conlon is off somewhere drinking pints), the group heads off across town to the Temple of the Swordelders. Their trip uneventful, if a bit depressing. Their path takes them through a large marketplace near the center of town that has been completely wrecked by the looting of the past few days. Overturned carts and smashed store fronts line the plaza, and more than a few pools of old, dried blood.
A few shopkeepers can be seen slowly cleaning up the horrendous mess, piling the debris in the center of the marketplace where it is likely to remain for some time. Luckily for the townsfolk, Potters Row was the only place fire erupted in earnest, so much of Ravensgate was saved from that additional horror. Occasionally some random bystander will take notice of the well-armed band of young toughs marching along the street and back towards their shop, or glare with poorly disguised loathing. The wounds of civil strife, of the strong preying on the weak without fear of reprisal, are not soon to heal in Ravensgate.
The Temple of the Swordelders is in no better shape than the marketplace, but for clearly different reasons. The whole edifice looks beaten, as if some giant creature knelt down and gnawed on it. The granite slabs of the foundation are chipped and cracked in a dozen places, and the smaller bricks that make up the rest of the structure are similarly fractured. The main doors of the place are completely missing and it isn't until the group approaches the temple that they see the doors laying in the street.
Several Swordelder acolytes appear to be on patrol in the vicinity of the temple, casting their eyes along the sun drenched streets as well as up to nearby rooftops. They pay the companions little attention.
A small gang of laborers, probably hired by the Swordelders, is at work clearing debris and the tall priest called Gudra is directing them. Kruanru himself stands in the street in his full regalia and armor, staring down at the smashed doors and scratching his head.
Looking up as the group approaches, he grumbles "Ah, you have returned as I thought you might. Speak plainly. I lost patience three days ago."

Sangraals strong voice answers the Kruanru.
"Yelm guide you SwordElder. We come seeking answers and may provide some as well, may we retire inside away from prying eys and ears?"

Re: The Temple of the Swordelders, part deux
Kruanru regards the pack of scruffians following along behind Sangraal with a cool and callous eye.
"Come," he barks, and strides into the temple.
The scars of the temple's exterior reach within, just a few feet inside the crumpled main doors. A shattered wooden shield lays against a nearby wall that is itself stained with blood. Striding into the quiet temple, Draxim's boot crunches a bit of shattered steel and the young dwarf quickly stoops down to grab a piece before rejoining the group.
Kruanru swiftly moves to the opposite side of a wide stone altar, illuminated by sunlight streaking in from a circular hole in the temple's domed roof. The priest directs Sangraal and the others to stand around the altar with him, each bathed in the warmth of the afternoon sun.
"Speak, and say your name before you do," Kruanru commands. "Humakt hears all falsehood."

Ulwe in a clear and proud voice declares:
"I am Ulwe, I follow the Aerendalen path of Orlanth the Sea Wanderer. I come with my companions to ask of Irian Aros. We ask if you have met with him and have any word on his final days. He has passed, but his friend and guide Kaleb.."
Ulwe indicates the scruffy woodsman
.."brought us Irian's writings. Your name was mentioned in these writings which brings us hence."

Kruanru ponders Ulwe's question for a moment, then answers "yes, I met with Irian Aros. The substance of our discussion will remain between Irian and I."

"Swordelder," says Madragar in a respectful tone, "we seek those who slew him, and those who have hounded us. Within your conversation with Irian Aros may lie the clues that will lead us to our quarry. This can only work to the advantage of your order, for we are such as oppose the works of Chaos."

Re: The Temple of the Swordelders, part deux
Kruanru flinches, but recovers quickly. Turning on Atan, few fail to notice the tall priest's hand cross his body and grasp the hilt of the sword at his waist. Kruanru's strong, mail-clad arm flexes beneath his armor, poised to strike Atan's head from his shoulders in an instant of irresistable violence. Yet the blade, for the moment, remains in its sheath.
"Get out!" Kruanru shouts. "All of you! I have enough misery before me and have no patience for your childish questions. Misfortune follows you like a cloud of crows. Begone!"
A trio of acolytes appear from a shadowy corridor, alerted by Kruanru's rage. They do not have the high priest's restraint, and instinctively draw their gleaming blades. Kruanru thrusts out a hand to stop them advancing on the group without taking his eyes off Atan.
"Now go."

Re: But dude, you were freeking out.......
[OOC: Sangraal has not left the temple yet.]
"Swordelder something is afoot and the enemies of the lightbringers grow bold." Sangraal speaks hurridly his gaze falling upon the drawn blades of the humakt acolytes.
"We come to share what we know, we have fought the darkness without knowledge of its purpose. We ask that you listen to our story and enlighten us about issues we do not understand." Sangraal says in the most respectful tone he can muster.
"As Humakt once assisted Yelm from the darkness of his captivity. I ask that you lead me and my friends from the darkness of ignorence."
[OOC: Diplomacy +4: to get the priest to calm down and hear our story.]

"Sangraal," Kruanru replies. "You are a servant of the dawn, and that has stayed my hand. But you must leave this place. Now. Do not speak to me again of Irian Aros or of the abomination that has come to torment my house."

"I am currently a guest in the Lodge of the Ghurugil. I offer my services to the church of Humakt if they are ever needed. You can find me there." Sangraal bows in respect to Kruanru.

Re: But dude, you were freeking out.......
Kruanru and his acolytes, their swords sheathed, follow the companions out of the temple then glare at them from the gaping breach that was once the structures front door. The group soon finds itself wanding back through the town, wondering.

Re: But dude, you were freeking out.......
[OOC: Did Atan ever try and take apart the silverpipe? Did Atan ever search himself to see if Irian might have slipped the papers onto him?]
The pipe is one single piece of silver. Atan hasn't noticed anything on his person that Irian might have put there, even after a thorough search. -GM

Re: But dude, you were freeking out.......
Walking down the street wondering, "OK. Back to square one which is those two scrolls and Kaleb. Actually if we want to go way back, do we even want to get inolved with this? We have the option of leaving this town and get Mad and Vala away from druuga and his cronies, if they are still here. Or we can go after Druuga and bucket and sort them out. What do you guys think?"

"He is a powerful warrior, a servant of evil," says Madragar, in whispered tones. "He seeks to capture me for his master, the Gorgon, a terrible sorcerer. If the Gorgon were to succeed in finding me, he would possess knowledge that would allow him to cover Moagara in shadow."

Scowling, Kaleb seems disturbed by the thought of running from Chaos.
"Hmmm, Never one to run from chaos. What information do you have, that would cause this Gorgon to seek you out?"

Re: But dude, you were freeking out.......
Sangraal mutters to himself clearly deep in thought about the perplexing turn of events.
"Draxim, I noticed you pick up something at the temple, what was it?" Sangraal asks lightly.
"We should go back to the Ghurugil lodge and choose our next course of action."
[OOC:
1.We should consult with the Ghurugil and find a sage who might be able to decipher at least part of the scrolls.
2. We should also do some research into the central circle symbol which i featured so promently in Irians writings and dreams. I figure it is the symbol of this women who haunted Irian and appeared to Atan. Maybe we can place a name to the symbol. The Swordelder I suspect knows but hes as helpful as an empty gun.
[You, sir, have obviously never been pistol whipped. -GM]
3. Also we could find out where Talbo is.
[It's on the map. -GM]
4. Kaleb - what is his tale?
5. Ask the Ghurgil about the food barrels and what they might know.
Just some more ideas.
