The Village of Werthyn
"Certainly Atan," Nrulias replies as the group approaches the pallisade gate. With a wave from Nrulias the massive, iron-shod door swings inward on creaking wooden hinges. The dirt road passes through the gatehouse and into a circle of huts with thatched roofs dominated by a longhouse (maybe 100 feet long) at the far side of the clearing. At the center of the circle is a smallish bonfire around which several figures can be seen knealing before it, motionless.
Nrulias leads the group off the road a few feet to where a couple young farmers are warming themselves by an iron brazier, longspears leaning against their shoulders. Kushan and Buhl dart off to a pair of tents that are flush with the pallisade wall nearby and disappear inside.
"Wait here," Nrulius says before moving off toward the longhouse. The circle of huts is maybe two or three hundred feet in diameter, and several more structures are visible now that the group is inside the walls. Most of the huts are indistiguishable from each other, probably housing a single extended family. The longhouse is an obvious focal point for the settlement as shadowy figures can be seen entering and leaving it fairly regularly. The cluster of buildings around the longhouse look like they might include a stable, and perhaps a blacksmith.
One of the farmers raises a hand and mumbles, "Urun." The other says, "Rasha." They don't seem to be too curious about newcomers until they spot Yimris and Sangraal's bloodstained garments. Their eyes go wide for a moment and they take a step back from the brazier, obviously prefering to have nothing to do with these strange new arrivals. They probably think you are mercenaries.

Re: The Village of Werthyn
Sangraal's gesture has little effect. Yelm warrior cults are not uncommon, and the surly, blood-stained look of the group marks them as killers. The two hideously scarred elves don't help either.

Re: The Village of Werthyn
Yimris looks a little stormy over the cold reception he's getting, but manages to not start mouthing off. He does ask Nrulias, "May I speak with your village's hunters? I have a wish to know of the Broo patterns in this area."

Re: The Village of Werthyn
Once inside the walls, Atan unstrings his bow with practiced ease. Loosening his backpack he lets it slide to the dirt infront of his feet. After windmilling his left arm he rubs his left shoulder while extending his back in a strecth to relieve the aches of th emany days on the march. "Nrulias, something important you should know. There was one other Broo, an Elk-head. That band's leader. It abandoned the warband around 2 to 6 hours before you found us. We did not relize it until too late and chose to continue following the main group. They were originally travelling due South at a good speed and then turned East. The direction the leader fled in could by any, but I would bet on South."

Re: The Village of Werthyn
Nrulias, marching off toward the longhouse, stops in his tracks and comes back to the brazier.
"Not good news," he muses, then pauses with a look of concentration on his face. "Our Lady will know what to do. I'll tell her you are here."
With that the young watchman heads off toward the longhouse.

"Hey Yimris. Why don't you try and score some bowstrings? Get me an extra if you find one. I'm good for it. Oh yea, and see if you can find some arrows. I need a couple."

"Don't you think we should hear what his lady has to say first?" Yimris replies as he follows the warrior.

Re: The Village of Werthyn
In Elven: "Nrulias had asked us to wait. Perhaps we should. Though I am anxious to sit my bones beside the fire. Tell me brothers, as fixated upon strings as the two of you are, how is it you neglected spares?"
Meneloss smirks at his barb and pats Atan on the shoulder.
Looking around at the farmers, Meneloss yawns unconsiously and steps forward to the brazier to warm his hands.
To the guards there, he tries a smile and tries to break the ice with a statement of the obvious: "Winter, it comes eh? Soon we are cold."
He pantomimes with his hands exaggerating a chill.

Re: The Village of Werthyn
Rasha quips to his pal, "I'm cold now," and laughs.
Urun starts to laugh, but looks at Meneloss with his ragged scar and blood stained tunic and decides not to. Both watchmen return to their uneasy silence.

Meneloss nods ackwardly and then as he turns mutters in Elven "Tough crowd". He walks back to his companions with raised eyebrows rolling his eyes. Slightly bored and impatient for food warmth and a comfortable place to lay down, Meneloss starts checking out the village.
[what sort of clothes are they wearing? Do they seem destitute, or comfortable? Meneloss will be trying to spot +7 anything out of the ordinary.

Re: The Village of Werthyn
Sangraal looks over at the people kneeling by the fire. Are they praying he wonders. Or are they cold?

Re: The Village of Werthyn
Meneloss peers about, his keen elven eyesight picking up many details in the dim firelight. The two watchmen are obviously subsistance farmers. Their clothes are worn but not poor, and they wear no ornamentation of any kind. The surrounding huts are simple and functional, but certainly don't speak to any kind of wealth. This looks to be a community that is living day to day on what the land can provide, and probably what they can sell in the town.
The three figures kneeling by the fire are definitely praying. It's possible they are in the same Yelm sect as Nrulias, but devotees of Chalana Arroy have rituals which involve long meditation and supplication to the Fertility Goddess, particularly around harvest time.

[we could role play in the meantime....]
Meneloss shifts his weight from foot to foot. He asks Ruglan: "Young Ruglan, tells to me why you have left the safe of Dobrug to chase monsters all day and stand all night?"

[That's what I was kinda hoping for. I don't want to just hussle the party from one encounter to another. I think inter-player interaction is key.]

Re: The Village of Werthyn
Atan taps Yimris on the shoulder motioning for him to follow. Going over to the brazier he acknowledges Uran and Rasha as he enters the fires light. Atan pulls his cloak a little closer while warming his hands, "Cold watch eh? Better then the midnight to dawn. Tonight's will be cold as Urox's fury that one. Boring too."
Making a slight bow, "I am Atan and my good looking friend here is Yimris. If you don't mind my asking, is there a bower or fletcher we could call on?"

Re: The Village of Werthyn
Rasha looks to his friend Urun rather than answer Atan's question. Urun stares at the fire for a second, then gestures toward the two tents of the Olamanii.
"They can craft arrows. Ask 'em."
