Three Spells for Your Consideration
Inspired by Nick's recent spell work on the Atlas boards, I've had a go at producing a few of my own. I'd be grateful if you could review and critique. Lucca's Steps into the Realms of Alteration
Adversaries to Babes-in-Arms. MuCo 20.
The caster, by use of this spell, reduces the size of a group of people by -2, effectively making the average sized man as small as a toddler. Developed by Lucca's Marta as a non lethal means of hindering opponents, she would point out "It is often problematical for an angry mob to pursue you with their hoes around their ankles". [B: 3, R: Voice +2, D: Diameter +1, T: Group +2]
The Artist's Brush Aflame. MuIg 15.
A fire no bigger than a bonfire, can be manipulated to produce any number of moving images and pictures from the flames. Sounds of popping, bangs and roars can also be created to accompany the images. Particularly complex or accurate depictions require a finesse roll on the part of the magus. Originally developed as a means of entertaining his daughter and other coven folk during special occasions. Lucca later found this spell a useful tool in describing events witnessed, explaining concept for new works or as a simple means of expressing his artistic side. [B: 4 (Completely change a fire in an unnatural way), R: Voice +2, D: Concentration +1, T: Ind +0 ]
Last Stand of the Horned Gargantuan. MuCo 20.
Requisites: Animal
By use of this spell the caster is transformed into a blabk bull for the duration of around two minutes (Diameter). The spell lasts for the full duration and cannot be cancelled due to the lack of focus other Muto Corpus (Animal) spells employ. This is by design as the spell is meant to be used as a last line of defence, when the magus cannot or will not flee, and there fore does not allow the time to find and use such items in combat. While in this animal form the Magus can still cast spells with the usual -15 penalty for no voice and gestures.
Lucca invented this spell in case he was ever forced to fight and had no option to flee. Though truth be told following his first casting, he actual rather enjoyed the experience and allows himself the occasional short transformation every now and then. [B: 10, R: Personal +0, D: Diameter +1, T: Ind +0, +1 size modifier. The personality traits are included in case the individual botches the spell)]
Seems quite powerful for the level of effect - but within the spell guidelines. We'd have to see how useful it was in game, as it might 'spoil' encounters too easily. However, I'm willing to see it in use before making a fuss
The Artist's Brush Aflame. MuIg 15.
No problems here - seems like a nice spell.
Last Stand of the Horned Gargantuan. MuCo 20.
I can see the use of this as a last ditch defence spell and it fits with the guidelines (given the +1 for the size of the creature).
Re: Three Spells for Your Consideration
I think all of these are fine - all of the levels look correct to me. As an aside, the final spell has reminded me that I will need to amend one of my starting spells, as I haven't included the required +1 size modifier.
