Tibiana Chiflet
OOC
Name: Moosebear
Contacts: Moosebear@sbcglobal.net, AIM: Moosebear89
Age: 16
Code: Rita Skeeter Illegal Animagus
Oops, apparently you just changed it: Hermione Granger
IC:
Full Name: Tibiana Lilac Chiflet
Nickname(s): Tibby (childhood nickname), Tibbs (preferred nickname)
DOB: May 24th, 1994
Year: 3rd
Blood: Half-blood
House Preference: Hufflepuff
Why: After much thought and diagnosis of her character, the Sorting Hat placed her at last within Hufflepuff. Though of reasonable intelligence, the home of deep-thinking Ravenclaw was not to be hers. Her stubbornness and seeming bravery might well have given her a place within Gryffindor, but her loud mouth, thoughtless rudeness, and frequent impatience might well have allowed her strength within Slytherin. It was her loyalty—stronger than steel and, fortunately, usually properly guided—that set her at last within sturdy Hufflepuff.
Physical Appearance:
Young still, Tibiana is currently five foot two inches and though evenly balanced, is far from graceful. To her great embarrassment she’s quite a klutz and finds it near impossible to remain still. Though she still retains some ‘baby fat’ around her midsection, such is unnoticeable when hidden by the loose shirts she favors or simply the uniform black robes of Hogwarts. The rest of her is not chunky but neither is it the preferred slender and for this she is highly self-conscious, thinking that of course she must be fat and that perhaps that is why she has yet to make any true friends. Truth to tell, she is somewhat well-endowed and if she were any skinnier, it is likely she would look annoyingly out of proportion.
With a family of large feet, Tibiana has come to see her feet as small at a size six in women’s and often blames them for her clumsiness. Her fingers, well-rounded but not excessively so, are always cursed with nails that barely reach the edge of her fingertips as she tends to bite them when bored or nervous. Her skin is a dark peach color, tending to tan just as much as it might sunburn, leading her to a great indecision as to the use of Muggle sunscreen. As she spent much of the last summer outside in hopes of gaining skills in Quidditch, Tibiana now has a rather exasperating ‘farmer’s tan’ that is another source of embarrassment. Freckles dot her arms and trot across her face, blending well with her skin so that they barely seem visible unless gazed from close distance.
Her face is rather more spherical than she would have hoped, with cheeks that always seem as if they have a little more air hidden within them than necessary. Her quietly-red lips are often to be found pursed in irritation or sarcasm though sometimes lifted in infrequent, genuine amusement. Her nose slopes gently and ends with a well-rounded bottom, noticed by her only when she is looking at something closely or when it is running. Ears that were pierced at age one rarely have earrings adorning them and appear like exquisitely formed shells when not hidden by her hair.
Tibiana’s hair is long and dark and wavy. Not curly, not straight, but wavy. During the years before Hogwarts, Tibiana often flittered between the two extremes, wishing for either but that which she had. Now with magic to aid her, Tibiana has at last determined a suitable style that allows for her hair to touch down just past her shoulders with rather more wave in the bangs and bottom of the hair than the top, which she magically straightens. Lately, she has begun wondering if perhaps she should color her hair; perhaps doing so might make her more noticed and popular.
It is her eyes that most express her. Soft brown, the same as her mothers, they are widely shaped and bulge somewhat, giving Tibiana the appearance that she is always alert. Only through these portals are her true emotions visible, along with the crinkling of nearby skin and carefully plucked eyebrows. To her intense displeasure, Tibiana was diagnosed with hyperopia during her early years, a condition more commonly known as far-sightedness. Rather than wear undignified glasses and ruin what she sees as the already limited beauty of her face, Tibiana has taken to wearing Muggle contacts. Just in case, though, she has a pair of rose-pink rimmed glasses stashed far in her trunk of belongings to allow her vision should her single pair of contacts become unusable.
Personality:
Upon the surface, Tibiana seems furthest from any traits that might link her to Hufflepuff. She is impatient, often thoughtless as well as tactless, and shows absolutely no restraint in speaking whatever happens to dance upon her mind. She enjoys feeling superior over others, all too often claiming herself to be especially when this is farthest from truth. Due to the fact that she was practically raised as an only child, Tibiana was quite spoiled and finds no reason why that privilege should be revoked now. Boastful and proud, few observing her would realize that this is only a façade to hide that which she fears to be known.
Deep down, Tibiana is insecure and uncertain, always searching for a means of validating herself, even if is means putting another down. Loved only by her family and having always been different, Tibiana feels that her life is sadly lacking of that which brings others happiness. It is in fear of this becoming obvious that Tibiana has wrapped herself in layers of derision, ire, verbosity, and others. With all her heart, she longs to be accepted, to have a circle of friends, and to be known—even negatively if not positively—by the peers that seem not to realize she even exists. And why shouldn’t she? After all, it’s not like she’s looking for a love relationship with a boy she’s never even spoken to before; just someone to talk to and keep her company during the long school terms.
Nevertheless, Tibiana is quite stubborn, holding strong to the few moral values she unconsciously decided to ‘inherit’ from her family, the sturdiest being her unswerving sense of steadfastness. Once her loyalty is gained, it remains strong, often even in the event of steadfast evidence that might lead one to presume otherwise. Such is that which ultimately decided her home in Hufflepuff. A trustworthiness so strong as this, however, is not quite so easily gained by just anyone.
As a matter of fact, Tibiana is—unfortunately—somewhat of a hypocrite. Though she has no problem putting down others to further her own self-esteem, she despises others who do the same. She is quite the opposite of a pureblood and looks upon people with such a bloodline with pity and patronization. Only pride and good manners—though not too good of course—seem to speak through to her as she works very hard to become a young woman that anyone could be proud of.
Despite all this, or perhaps because of it, Tibiana is determined to change. Throughout her early childhood, her somewhat rotten demeanor went by unnoticed. Only now does she realize that Jaren—her only friend—was not really a friend at all, but more of a shadow to tousle with on occasion. Finally growing into maturity, Tibiana has come to realize that there is a lot more to life than that which she has been aware of. Her desire to be known has awakened a harsh desperation in her. In an effort to make a new name for herself, Tibiana has concocted a new nickname for herself and also aspires to join the Quidditch House team. Even she, however, knows this will likely not be enough. Ever so slowly, she works to open up and discover her true self, hidden by the habit of insecurity that is all too easily to slip back into.
History:
Always a lover of the peculiar people known as Muggles, it was only proper that Poinsettia fall in love with one, a baker by the name of Edmund Chiflet. However, she never quite brought up the fact that she was a witch and when they married, there certainly didn’t seem to be any suitable time to bring it up. What with the fact that their first two children—Stephany and Debbin—showed no signs of magic, Poinsettia’s secret seemed safe. However, just as Stephany was to begin high school at Eton, Tibiana was born. Far younger than her sister and brother, Tibiana grew up with the need to find her own entertainment.
Even Edmund could not deny that there was something awfully peculiar about his youngest child. Strange things always seemed to happen when she was bored or didn’t get her way. But instead of explaining everything to her husband as she ought to have, Poinsettia used her own magic to cover her daughter’s actions and when Tibiana was old enough to understand, Poinsettia made sure to warn her against flagrantly exhibiting her magic, though not quite in such words. With only a few warnings and a little discipline to deter her, Tibiana found little reason to stop as well as few means of doing so. Meanwhile, she went to Muggle primary school as both siblings before her had done.
A tomboy at heart, Tibiana soon discovered that she did not make friends easily, though it didn’t bother her in the least. After all, she had a special gift that no one else seemed to have. Then again, she also had a particularly feisty streak within her that yearned to be challenged. One afternoon, she met Jaren, a boy her own age who was frequently silent but whom Tibiana believed had somehow offended her. After a scuffle that landed both in detention, the two soon became friends, or at least as close to friends as she could understand. He took to calling her Tibby and soon she was dragging the nickname everywhere.
Shortly after her eleventh birthday, however, she received her letter to Hogwarts. Poinsettia had no choice but to explain Hogwarts, not only to her confused yet amazed daughter, but also the Muggles that had become her family. The entire Chiflet family was immediately thrown into furor. Though Stephany and Debbin had already moved out and begun settling into their own lives, they were just as hurt as their father. Edmund was still debating on divorcing his wife when Tibby left her muddled life to begin her first year at Hogwarts. Finally aware of how shallow her relationship had been with Jaren and realizing the fact that she would be too busy with learning magic to remain interested in fighting with him, Tibby immediately dumped him and set off to begin her future.
Confused and incredulous at the vastness of the new world opened to her, Tibby at first fought against the sudden change in her life. Constantly pushing others away in her uncertainty, Tibby failed to make any friends and she did miserably in her classes. At Christmas break, Tibby feared to go home and find her parents divorced—although they surely would have sent word to her if they had—and so stayed at school for the holidays. Boredom striking a miserable note in her, Tibby began working harder to master the magic that she had previously half-ignored. She barely finished the end of the year with passing marks and went home expecting the worst.
But to her immense surprise and delight, Edmund and Poinsettia had reconciled. With her mother’s presence to cloud her own, Tibby was able to practice her magic under Poinsettia’s watchful eye, getting a better hold on it so that her next year at school would not drag along quite so tediously. And so the next year took hold. Tibby scrambled to do her best, intent upon impressing her parents so that her father would truly come to realize how wonderful having two witches in the family would be. Tibby emerged with much better grades but still few if any people she would bother to call friends.
Summer came by swiftly and Tibby decided that it was time to begin a sort of life change. Her education was finally beginning to take off and her familial life was completely settled. Now it was time to gain some sort of social life that had been sadly lacking in her past. Her personality was, of course, not about to be completely switched around, but it was her hope that she might gain popularity, perhaps through such means as Quidditch. With her mother’s permission and help, she bought a broomstick, though not highest in its class, and practiced invisibly in the night. Now in her third year, Tibiana finally begins to work on making a name for herself: Tibbs.
RP Sample:
“Tibiana!”
The little girl scowled and ignored her mother, feeling particularly rebellious and energized on this lovely summer afternoon. Oh how she loathed being called by her full name! Tibby darted across the pathway lined with rocks, intent on a brown speck visible in the near distance. Could that possibly be an owl? Tibby thought curiously, But aren’t they nocturnal? Intent on being stealthy so as not to startle the creature away, she crouched down against the grey, brick wall that bordered their property, slipping forward as quietly as possible. It was definitely some sort of bird, flying swiftly this way. Tibby sank down against a mulberry bush, fancying that the avian would not notice her if she were still. Oh, but it was so difficult to remain stationary! Scrunching her face, Tibby fought against all instinct to spring up and simply sat, waiting.
With a loud hoot, the owl—feathers a soft brown and wide eyes bright yellow—landed upon the mulberry bush just above her head. Tibby tilted her head up, staring up in amazement. An envelope dropped into her lap and the magnificent creature spread its wings then returned to the air, disappearing into the horizon as quickly as it had appeared. Watching the owl’s departure, it was several minutes before the young girl recalled the envelope it had dropped in her lap. She skimmed it absently, catching only her name written in flowing letters on the front, then tore it open unceremoniously.
Brown eyes flickered through the letters, widening in surprise. Was this some sort of joke? No, Stephany had her hands full with her new husband, Debbin was too busy with college, and Jaren—Tibby’s only friend—had absolutely no sense of humor. Quite honestly, she should really think about dumping Jaren. He was only good for roughhousing and now that she’d be going to grade school, Tibby had to think about growing up and becoming a lady…or something like that. Perhaps this “Hogwarts” place was a new grade school where she would be given that opportunity to begin anew.
Whistling a cheerful tune, Tibby skipped back to the house, letters crumpled carelessly in hand. Her mother, busy gardening, glanced at her daughter disapprovingly for having not helped weed the garden. Grinning broadly, Tibby offered the letters to her mother for explanation. If anyone would understand them, Poinsettia Chiflet would. The woman’s soft brown eyes—exactly the same shade as those of her youngest daughter—roved over the letters quickly and suddenly the color drained from her face. Had it been anyone else, Tibby would have immediately taken the initiative to tease, taunt, and poke fun. But Poinsettia was her mother, the dearest and closest confidant and guide of her life. Anxiety flooded her young face and Tibby gently pulled upon her mother’s dirt-stained dress.
“I think it’s time you and me had a little talk about magic, Tibiana,” Poinsettia whispered, breath as soft as a leaf of the plant that was her namesake. For once, Tibby ignored the annoying name her parents had christened her. Something important was stewing, something dramatic and possibly frightening. Eyes wide and bright as if to take in all there was to be observed, Tibby followed her mother into the house.
“Okay, Mom.”

RPer’s Note: Aloha’z! I’ve been floating around this board for about a week, trying to get up the courage to apply and well, here it is. Skimming through a couple of threads and other applications, I feel I can’t quite claim that I’m at the advanced level that you prefer, but I’ve been looking for a place to further my writing and I’m absolutely fascinated by what I’ve observed here so far. Thank-you for taking the time to read this; I hope to join in the fun! ^_^
