Timing of sp400 motors
Hey Dave or someone equally knowledgeable,
How about a little description of how to time a motor.
I am hearing something about rotating the back of the motor 4mm....... cw, ccw ?? What is the benefit ? etc.
Let's start some tips and tricks on this board.

Re: Timing of sp400 motors
Looking from the rear, turn the rear case 4mm anti clockwise. Don't loosen the tabs or anything.
Does it work? Who's going the fastest?

400timing
I use a Whattmeter to time mine. I set it for minimum draw which is the same as setting for minimum arcing at the comm. Turn the end bell in the opposite direction to propellor rotation. With no test equipment, setting it to the 4mm point is very very close. I believe timing is not a great power producer but it does increase the efficiency of the motor. Better efficiency yields less draw yields higher voltages for a longer time. We only need the highest voltage possible for about a minute and a half. I'm only 10 seconds behind Dave and Adam but now I see Doctor Roy is the next go fast guy to target. Don't forget all you beginners - Consistency will get you more than flat out speed. Take a look at the standings presently and you'll see that young Derrek is right up there in second place. He's flying a consistent course and his gear is not failing in flight.

Timing of speed 400 motor
Hi Murray,
Thanks for the info. Will you bring out your watt meter to the race on Monday for a show and tell??
Also, do you have an inductive amp meter?
What about a Star Trek Phaser???
Hopefully we will have fun in the sun on Monday. The week end forcast is not to bright.

Could someone bring out a motor timing tool on Monday.
I would like to borrow it to time my motors.
Thanks for the tips and web URL.

Zagi timing
I'll have my timing tool and my whattmeter there on Monday. Why do you want to go faster? I see you've already lost the fuselage on your Zagi.
