To Be a Warrior (OOC- More info on this world/Furora here this thread is open to all, please join me! :-)) --- Furora's story begins long ago with the unholy union of a noble Doberman emperor-to-be and a young, winged Mustang mare. When the truth was made known to the public of this treacherous matrimony, the two involved parties were banished from their kingdoms and sent into the harsh wilderness upon an alien world. Together they bore one offspring: a female canid/equine hybrid. Shocked by the ugliness of their newborn infant, the two left the young creature upon a mountain side, willing to have her claimed by the wilderness in which they had been sent to endure. Back then - only a bundle of matted feathers and fur - she by some miracle, or perhaps curse, managed to survive. --- *Out into the night's cool air steps Furora as she always had. She takes a moment to unfurl her onyx wings, allowing them to feel the gentle breeze of the darkness. Looking to the stars a single tear glides down over her black cheek, tracing the paths of so many previous. Furora stretches out, ready for her nightly hunt. She had not been having very much luck as of late, and had gone to bed hungry for the past week and a half. Breathing deep, she refolds her feathered wings tight against her sides and takes a deep sigh. Without food, how would she manage? It was bad enough that none of the other creatures would take a second look at her let alone socially interact, but now she was starving to death. In her own mind she does not blame them...even to look upon herself in the crystal waters of the lake is painful - now more than ever with her bones pressing so prominently against her skin. She pads her way silently over to a small tribute of the lake, sipping it's clear water with her eyes closed for this exact reason. She is only slightly taller than an antelope, with slick, feathered wings at a thirty foot span total. Having her father's coloration and build with her mother's mane and wings is not particularly attractive, which had been made all too clear to her time and time again. Being of such an odd form, Furora has been/is/in all probability will be beat and bashed upon by the other creatures living in her world. There are, of course, those animals who tolerate her presence, but they are far and few between. Furora has set her mind to make a kill this night - to break her dreadfully enduring hunger. She finished her drink and slinks under the night's gracious cover to a nearby rock formation. Here she sits for a moment, debating to herself in what method to set out on her hunt. Her decision is made quickly enough as she chooses to attempt another ambush on the firekits living nearby. She furtively makes her way towards their den, careful not to make a sound on the leaf-covered ground. She rounds the corner, peeking inside of the cavern slowly. Odd...this does not seem to be the correct cave. Had she gone completely insane overnight? Furora shakes her head and blinks her eyes in a desperate attempt to change the scene before her but to no avail. Rather than the narrow-tunneled cave of the firefoxes is a warm, open cavern with a faint, green glow coming from the inside. Gripped by curiosity here, the winged doberman steps into the cave mouth, standing stunned at what she now sees. Somehow she has been transported to another place...no longer are the walls of the cave standing, but rather there are open fields stretching miles and miles on all sides of her. Her muzzle opens, and in a quiet, almost whispering rustle of a voice she speaks. "What is this place?" Edited by: Unakavierde at: 5/3/03 4:29:49 pm |

Re: To Be a Warrior
Looking up from her recent meal, she notices a strange form-figure. She shifts slightly on her rocky-crag perch, looking down on the newcomer. Slightly confused at the sudden apperence of this creature, she ponders how it came to be there, under her, with out even a wiff of air or scent. It makes some sort of grunt of surprise, perhaps even a language..., but the body language is clear. The new-beast is just as surprised.
She ponders this reaction a moment as she takes a hunk of flesh from her kill to chew on. *cruch munch, thinks* "Greetings newcomer," she rumbles around a mouthful of meat and bone. Re: To Be a Warrior *Furora is startled by this strange, new voice, she had been too busy watching the orb to have a good look around. She floofs her feathers up and spreads her wings, trying to make herself appear as large as possible. Weak enough now to be blown over in the wind Furora's only real defense is to bluff in this manner. She flicks her green eyes over this said new creature, tipping her head from one side to the other in the process. Three paces through the cool air she steps towards this creature, repeating her previous inqury.* "What is this place? *She waits not for an answer, but is soon sniffing at the air and watching the purple clouds drift listlessly in front of the pale night moon. Finally be reminded: courteous of her rumbling middle - that she is hungry, Furora eyes now rest upon the new animal's meal longingly.* These waters are my skies. Re: To Be a Warrior Not terribly far away, a minotaur is blinking about himself in surprise and wondering the same thing. One moment he was on the road to Elephantine, on promise of a contract with a merchant he had worked for before, and the next moment he is here (wherever "here" is) in the middle of grassland without a road in sight. Very odd. Very discomforting, too, for he can think of no explanation but "magic," and there's usually a "who" attached to it. Very discomforting, indeed. But there's nothing he can do about it just at the moment, now, is there? With a look up at the moon -- and unfamiliar stars -- there is nothing to do but pick a direction. He nudges his mule off in a direction he hopes is southwest, one hand close to the longer blade at his side. Just in case. -- |

Re: To Be a Warrior She tilts her head to one side, watching this creature floof up in defense. The rumbling query sounds reminded her of the canid races of her home world, but there was something very different about it. A 'twang' of sorts, a twist in dialect maybe, or perhaps just the structure of the wording. The intelligence in the beast's eyes and the way it vocalized was definatly a sign of higher thought. She tilted her head the other way, listening and watching. 'Understandable that this one if frightened, I was when I first found this place.' The intensity of the animal's gaze, as it landed on her kill made her realize her own rudeness. She tears a leg off the animal of which she dines upon and tosses down towards the creature below. Then speaking slowly, based on the canid dialect she knew, she tried intorducing herself more properly. "I," she points to herself, "am Drakenhart, Beta Righ of a Clan I have been seperated from by this world. She looks around at the vista before them and sighs. "This is a place strange to me, though I am a realm traveler. New to you as well I suspect." She streaches and yawns hugely, bowing to arch her back and flex her wings wide. She shakes her mane and body, then resettles on her perch, wondering if she can make herself understood. Re: To Be a Warrior *Furora's eyes widen with this new creature's offerance to her. The animal said something, but always careful to understand completely, Furora sits back on her haunches a moment, ears twitching with her thoughts. Apparently 'Drakenhart' was the name by which to refer to this creature, and also it had been captured in this strange world as she had been. Furora smiles gently, standing up again, inclining her head slowly.* "Hello, Drakenhart. I am Furora Prelidatora, winged canid, wanderer of the winds and-" *Furora is cut short by the appearance of a very large, very intimidating creature astride a mule. Unable to move, she casts a look at Darkenhart - maybe this new being and Drakenhart are friends? Watching closely this giant she noticed that he was armed...very heavily armed. Straight into the air now stand her ears, sniffing at the stranger in interest, almost forgetting the meat offered ot her by Draken. Turning around slowly as to not alarm any one else, she pads over to Draken, taking the piece of meat in her muzzle tenderly and nodding her head in gratitude. She sits with a calm demeanor now, watching the immense stranger as well as Draken in interest.* These waters are my skies. Re: To Be a Warrior Her ears perk as she listens intently to the new beast. She thinks she picks up a name, and its sylable usage is a bit more rounded then the more canid language. There was a strange sound, almost like a whicker, in there as well. She raises both eyebrows at this, wondering just what sort of beast this is indeed. 'Yes there is a definate vocabulary there. A strange one.., but something I might be able to learn with time...', she thinks to herself as she listens. Then the slight wind shifts, and she picks up a new scent. Two new scents, both rather musky and one more prey-type then the other. She too perks her ears, and looks in the direction the new beast, Furora, perks towards. 'Hmmn must be many of those gates opening today, strange. I wonder if there is a pattern to it?' She stands up to get a better view, ears perked, wings hanging slightly relaxed but at the ready. Catching sight of the other newcomer she howls a greeting. Re: To Be a Warrior He might not have spotted them, but the movement ahead catches his attention -- and then the howl, of course. The mule freezes in place; the minotaur does, too. He doesn't draw his blade, but the hand near it hasn't moved; the howl sounded something like a wolf, and his experience told him that if you left them alone, they'd leave you alone. But .. it wasn't exactly like a wolf, now was it? He squints into the darkness, trying to make out the shapes ahead, and whether they will let him pass or if he must take another way. -- |

Re: To Be a Warrior *Sniffing the air, Furora nudges at Drakenhart with a paw.* "It is no predator....although it is suspiciously large. Perhaps we should go investigate this?" *She furrows her brow at Draken, trying to motion over to the new creature that had just appeared. It was obvious Draken could not understand her dialect, and begins trying to use body language instead. With a soft growl and a nod of her head, the winged canid nudges Drakenhart again.* These waters are my skies. Re: To Be a Warrior Her ears swivel, picking up the speech of Furora, trying to decipher it. When Furora began more obvious body language, things began to make sense. Lifting her nose to the skies once more, she let loose a second howl. Unfurling her wings, she flexed the half feathered half membrane to their fullest extent. Sometimes the best way to find out about a new scent was to seek it out, and she planned to do that. With Furora's nudge she jumped from her perch, flapped twice to get further air-borne, and glided towards the new scents. Keeping a decent arrow-shot distance, to avoid any defensive actions from unwittingly frightened parties, she slid along the thermals. The closer she got the more she saw, and what she saw intrigued her. Circling above the newcomer, she eyed it and the beast that was with it. Deciding that the one looked to be more intelligent, if only because it had another beast in bondage, she tilted her wings to glide away from them a few lengths. Enough space given, so that she could land near the newcomer without being in harms way, she came to a thuddingly heavy landing. "Must pay attention to the ground levels," she thought to her self. "The sky colors here make it harder for me to judge distances for some reason," she snorted more to herself then anything else. Walking towards the newcomer, she shifted to a more appropriate form. A hybrid creature what could walk on two legs, she motioned with open plams that she was un-armed. "Who and what might you be new-one?" Her tones were light, soft, but sure. She hoped that if this one could not speek a language she understood, at least he actions were more easily read. Re: To Be a Warrior He has been a mercenary on his own for too long not to jump when someone else jumps first: when Drakenhart takes to the air, Charcoal's sense of self-preservation acts for him, and the spatha is freed from its sheath as he slides from the mule's saddle. He is more than ready to defend himself if necessary, and it shows ... but then again, he doesn't press the attack, either. He only keeps a careful eye on the one in the air and the one left on the ground, and keeps his back to the stiff-legged mule. But perhaps it won't be necessary, after all. His ears twitch back in surprise as the flier lands a short distance away and ... changes. His ill ease is demonstrated in that they stay pointed back, and his eyes never leave her. And then she says something and shows him her open hands, and it's a gesture he understands even if he doesn't quite catch the words she says. He relaxes, marginally. "I am Charcoal," he states in the clearest Tradetongue he can manage, still touched by traces of a faintly Germanic accent. "A peaceful traveller, on my way to Elephantine." He can only hope she understands him better than he does her. -- |

Re: To Be a Warrior
She watched him carefully, ears swiviling between Furora and him. His body language was clear, and the defensive stance obviously one of a well trained warrior. She walked a few more steps towards him, and then stops leaving a few yards between them, wary of him as much as he of her.
His speech smacks heavily of a human tongue she once tried to learn. Its clear but very heavy. Some of the grammer and words are lost on her, but there is something very familar about the way in which he spoke. Trying one form of the human tongue, she re-introduced herself. The hard edges and the gutteral tones fit her muzzle well. "I am Drakenhart, Wanderer lost amoung these worlds. If you were expecting a path to follow, you may be as lost as I, traveller." She leans back on her tail, letting down her guard some. Her palms still open and out from her body, she motions to the ground. A second motion was to Furora, to stay at bay until she was sure he wouldn't attack outright. Any beast feeling threatened might easily attack out of defense, and she was sure she did not want this one to attack. Re: To Be a Warrior ((OOC: Because I haven't seen you pop up on AIM and I'm itching to post, I'm going to assume that she's speaking passable German. Whack me if I'm wrong!)) Both ears come up, and the minotaur's eyes widen in shock at her words. The sword still doesn't come down. He does not answer her right away ... he studies her first with a hard eye, and only when he has come to some decision within himself does he lower his sword and bow his head to her. "Forgive me," he finally replies in the same tongue, "but it was something of a shock to hear the language of the Allemanni so far from those lands. I am curious to know how you learned it..." He has relaxed, a little, since she has yet to show herself a threat (and indeed, has tried to portray herself in the category of 'friend'), but there is still a guardedness to his manner, of which he seems unwilling as yet to let go. Nevertheless, he resheathes the spatha and takes the mule's reigns up in one hand, just in case she should decide to change her mulish ways and bolt. -- |

Re: To Be a Warrior *Furora slips quietly through the grasses of there plains, staying a good ten yards to the rear of Draken. She wants to be braver, yes...but she just was so weak. Her restlessness wins her over and she pads a little closer to Draken, staying low to the ground. Re: To Be a Warrior (( OOC: Not a problem! ^.^ Its what I was hoping for but didn't want to get to twink-ish She nods and smiles gently. "Allemanni? I know this tongue in its older form, as spoken by one of the Tribes of Man. My birth-nest was located near a small clan what spoke this tongue." She sits on the ground, curls her tail around her body, and settles into a more comfortable position. She runs a clawed hand through her mane, and moves the stray hairs from her eyes. Looking over Charcoal, she gets a sense of purpose to his build. It is well defined and powerful, with a poise and skill to how he moves his frame. "You seem to be a warrior type, what brings you to this place? I think I heard a name..., Elephatine? I'm not sure I heard it rightly, so please forgive my mispronuciation of it." Re: To Be a Warrior He still wears a faintly surprised look, but there's more ease about him now. He nods at her words, rubbing the back of his neck in a rueful gesture. "The Allemanni tribes lived somewhat east and south of where I was born; I spent some time with them in my youth." He pauses on another statement, but then thinks better of the matter and continues, "although I think my Allemanni and those you knew were ... somewhat different. "It was Elephantine," he nods, continuing, "though the locals call it Yabu." He surveys the surrounding grasslands grimly, his ears tilting backward in displeasure. "I seem to have lost the road, however. Or it lost me. "Who's that with you?" he asks, noticing the shape of Furora slinking up beside the other. -- |

Re: To Be a Warrior (( OOC: Clarification - Draken's idea of "Worlds" is shapped by the experience of traveling through gates.., kinda like Star Gate of sorts..., to get to different places, nations and worlds. Not trying to meta-game or nuthin ^.^ )) She turns her head and flicks an ear in Furora's general direction. Chuckling she motions to the wing'd one to come closer to her side. "This is Furora, I believe. Her tounge is more forgien to me, but yet somewhat familar. Given time I may learn of it, but for now I do as I can. I am only glad," she turns back to Charcoal, "that I am able to speak with you, even as rough as my speech is at this time." She bows her head appoligetically witt that, then looks up with a gentle smile. "I do believe that the road which has left you, has done more then left you. It may sound strange, but I believe we are trapped here." She pauses for a moment, knowing well that there may be a bad reaction to this thought. Not sure of what he may do, she keep speeking hoping it would give him time to let it sink in..., "I am a Worlds Walker, curious of different realities. I found an intresting glowing /something/, and walked into it. I have been here..., several days, I think? It is a place I have never come across in my short travels, nor can I find a way back to my home worlds. You two are the first I have come across since my own appreance." Re: To Be a Warrior *Furora steps forward when Draken motions to her, padding nearer to the large one and his transport animal. She stands next to Draken, now and inclines her head, releasing a low slurr of speech.* "Fare thee well, Great beast. Your name is Charcoal, then? I apologize in my inability to communicate entirely correctly with the either of you..." her eyes shift over to Draken, then back to Charcoal. "I can understand you, and am making my very best efforts to have a conversation with you. I do not belong here, and as far as I can tell...neither of you fine creatures do, either." *She ruffles her wings and lowers her head in an attempt to express her honesty and her willingness to understand. Interestingly enough, Furora feels as if she could be of some service...even if the lingual boundaries need to be diminshed greatly before hand. She is not extraordinary at anything, truthfully...except for thinking and calculating. She is the best of the best in those two categories, which is indubitably the reason she is still alive.* "I wish to help the both of you and myself escape this place, we need to go home." *She finishes her speech humbly, yet again bowing her head to the two larger creatures. All that is left now, is to wait and hope for the best.* |

Amaroq Amaroq was walking down the sidewalk of the local park when he noticed a glittery thing in the air. He was very intrigued so he followed its irregular path. It led him into the park and to an enclosure of trees where it promptly dissappeared. He walked forward to see where and was suddenly on a dirt path. The sun was in a different position and the terrain had changed drastically. There appeared to be people or animals of some kind ahead, but he couldn't tell at this distance, even with his vision. He walked towards the group at a brisk pace, getting a smell of the creatures on the wind. He froze, they weren't smells he recognized. Definitely not a known smell. He was about to Change when he noticed one of the creatures had wings, then the other, and one was near a donkey, which he could smell and recognize. Peculiar. Very much so. He looked for shrubbery but there was only that long grass that couldn't possibly hide him, it was still too short and the fact that he was pure white, abnormally so, with long white hair and red eyes. Otherwise you could say he's human. Amaroq crouches down for now, to think over what had happened over this short span of time. |

Re: To Be a Warrior Charcoal has rather a lot to take in, what with the bombshell that Drakenhart drops and the speech given by the one she had introduced as Furora. Of the winged canine's speech, he understands not a word -- only that there must be some sense to the series of growly noises, but none that he can catch. Honey, the mule, blocks his view of the lights off in the distance that herald the next newcomer's arrival, and so he blissfully chews on just two problems for the moment. "If we got here," he is saying to Drakenhart, "then there must be a way out. We just have to find it. And pray to our respective gods that it doesn't take us decades." He is quiet for moment before he goes on. "I am not a world-walker, nor a mage," he admits, "but I have been enough odd places that I have seen such things done. Every walker I have ever known of -- which isn't many -- has had to have enormous power at call..." He spreads his hands in a gesture of helplessness. "... which doesn't really help us, I suppose." -- |

where am I? Amaroq recognizes the language of one of the creatures. Or mostly. He was taking German in highschool so he only knew so much. He crept closer, but not in a menacing way, more of a not-want-to-interfere-just-watch-like-a-good-bystander type of creeping. |
