Another letter from his mother, saying the situations getting worse by the day. He never needed reminding, getting out of that house was the most important. But staying in his dorm to write a reply, was begining to be unthinkable. His dormmates were all glaring at him the whole time. He got a few textbooks and went down to the common room.
Joshua was one of those guys who liked to pick a spot and claim it as his. He didn't care who else sat around him, but that spot was his. As he got to the common room, there was a girl sitting next to his spot. Which was fine by him. He sat down in the chair and pulled out his potions book to write on. He put the parchment on top and started writing the Japanese symbols that his mother could understand. He wrote that school was great, he was happy, and he hadn't been in any fights lately.
When he paused he looked around. His deep brown eyes took in everything, including the girl not really studying next to him. She kept flipping pages, and how fun it would be to say something right then... Just start an argument to make him feel better about blatently lying to his mother. Yet, if he told her the truth, she's not believe him.
"Did you know, that pausing longer on the pages actually makes them think you are studying?" He commented, not changing his face any. He didn't even have to pretend to study most of the time to get his housemates to leave him alone. They just did out of fear of Jua. Of course, in someone who always changed into super baggy black pants, and a black hoodie with a green snake on it, and pulled a black beanie over his head could look somewhat intimidating. Not to mention the fact his knife scars on his face were rather evident.
