Training
In addition to the skill points gained each level, PCs can spend time and gold to retain the services of a teacher. Not all skills can be taught, such as Listen or Bluff, and an appropriate teacher will have to be found in any case.

One month of training, with the PC devoting several hours each day to the effort, gains 1D3-1 skill points in a single skill. The cost of the training is determined by negotiating with the teacher. A PC can only receive training once per level (though it is retroactive, so a 4th level character can go through the training process up to four times).

Skill points gained through training are still limited by the max. ranks for class and cross-class skills, and should be clearly marked in a section called "Training" on your character sheet.

A seperate category of training, and one that does not count against the "one training session per level" restriction, is Research. A spell-casting PC can attempt to Research a new spell (Arcane spellcasters), or learn a Ritual (Arcane and Divine). Clerics generally have an easier time finding someone to teach them Rituals, and can expect to pay... that is, donate... less for the priviledge of learning. Researching a new spell is very expensive, time consuming and potentially doomed to failure.
