Troy
Well what can I say? It's really good but not great. Personally I don't think Brad Pitt is a bad actor but he's about as wooden as the Trojan horse in this movie. The best performace is from Brian Cox as Agamemnon and Eric Bana is good as Hector. Orlando Bloom isn't bad but not his best performance. Of the actresses involved only Rose Byrne as Briseis has much to do acting-wise.

There are some great battle scenes and a great one-on-one fight between Achilles and Hector and it's very bloody (hence the 15 certificate).

But what you really want to know about is the nudity! Brad appears nude about four times (I say "about" as one time he's only seen from the side). The first time is about five minutes into the film when a young boy is sent to find him to participate in a fight and the boy finds him in a sort of tent lying naked with at least two women. You can see his butt although it's kind of side on as it's seen from the point of view of the boy.

The next time he strips off in front of Briseis and again you get a side on view and almost a full-frontal (if the camera had moved down a few inches you'd have seen everything and for me this was the horniest nude scene). Later he has a love scene with Briseis but you only see one butt cheek (there's no full-on butt shot!) The fourth time is after making love to Briseis and you see him lying side on naked beside her.

For me what we got to see was enough and Brad looks gorgeous with his muscular physique.

As for Orlando he has several shirtless scenes and one almost full-frontal like Brad. Eric has a couple of shirtless scenes.

I'd give the film 4 out of 5 but one of those is for the gorgeousness of Brad. It's certainly not going to be a classic like Lord of the Rings but it's worth checking out (especially if you like Brad!)

No Achilles wasn't gay! You might be getting mixed up with Alexander the Great who swung both ways and is the subject of the forthcoming Colin Farrell film.

Re: re
Not that I want to contradict you Angelfan by Achilles was mainly gay but was essentially bi. His main lover was Patroclus who was played by Garrett Hedlund in the film. Understanding that will make some of Achilles activites more understandable.

This explains what the real story says.

Quote:
In the last year of the siege, when Agamemnon stole the captive princess Briseis from him, Achilles angrily withdrew and took his troops from the war. Later he allowed his friend and lover Patroclus to borrow his armor and lead the Myrmidons to aid the retreating Greeks. When Hector killed Patroclus, Achilles was filled with grief and rage and returned to the battle, routed the Trojans, and killed Hector,

Was Achillies Gay?

The character of Briseis was built up for the film to make Achilles straight as it was thought the American Cinema going public would not be able to stomach that a butch hero loved shagging blokes.

The film was good, but from the start, i was very irrirated, as they left out the story that started the whole story if you will, and i think it should have been included. It goes something like: King Peleus and Thetis had a wedding feast to celebrate their wedding. All gods and goddesses were invited bar one, Eris, the goddess of discord. Anyway, she was annoyed, so she threw a golden apple into the middle of the party, and on it was inscribed "To the most beautiful". Three goddesses claimed it - Hera, Athena and Aprodite (or Juno, Pallas Athene and Venus - the gods names are different in the Greek and Roman epics ). Paris was chosen to decide who was the most beautiful. The goddessess tempted him with various gifts. Aphrodite tempted Paris with the gift of the most beautiful woman in the world (Helen) if he chose her, which he did. Fulfilling her promise, she put Helen under a spell so should would fall in love and go wtih Paris back to Troy. So that's how it started!

I so need to see this film. Hopefully find people to soon. The person I was going to go with has already been and she doesn't think it was good enough to go again. Her comment on the film was that Orlando Bloom was like a bad smelling fart in this film which no amount of air freshner from Cox or Bana could get rid of especially when combined with a (surprisingly) below par performance from Pitt (who we both agree is possibly the second best actor in the world at the moment after Kevin Spacey). There was also an unintentially funny line in it for her about Helen of Troy:

Where has she gone? She left with the Trojans.

Re: Troy
I just saw this film and can honestly say Brad pitt cannot act. In fact he's so very bad, it's made me want to go back and look at all his other films, because I don't remember him being that bad an actor but in this he stinks. And then there's the crying scene which had the entire cinema laughing. He looks terrible in it, bloated and uncomfortable withhis bodysize. The film is also a pile of shite. Eric Bana is very good. Even Orlando Bloom acts Pitt off the screen. Shockingly bad and boring as hell.

Hehehe, anyhoo. Personally i thought it was an hour too long and the damn, music, oh how many times i have said it since seeing it, is just so crap and annoying. Brad Pitt., where to start, well old, aint good looking, not that he was much anyway, and shite actor, esp with the accent (where he from?!?!?), the crying (LOL), and the inability to move and limp at the end at the same time. Orlando, mmm, but still legolas minus the ears and blonde wig. Eric Bana very good and mmmm, anyhoo. Didnt like the censoring either, more blood on the deep wounds and NO! with the stupid strategic bed covers and camera angles. Script poo "MAY THE GODS BE WITH YOU" LOL ok obi. Directing not great. And the inspired by Homer crap, i aint read it but from wot my m8 told me and the way that was phrased neither had the film crew.
:bow Peter O'Toole and Brian Cox :bow
Aint a epic though, more like an averagepic.

Re: Troy
Just saw it, my god it was painful.

Yes, Brad did get his peachy ass out but it couldn't make up for how long this was dragged on for- the acting was forced like they were in stage school and is it just me, or has every single character bar Brad Pitt appeared in at least one of the Lord of the fucking Rings movies?

Tries to hard to be an epic when it's actually a very average film.

I forgot about the appalling big swells of overdramatic music.
I might have to have this film erased from my memory. Beginning with Brad's little hop/skip/jump dance.
