UNDERSTANDING DREAMS UNDERSTANDING DREAMS There are a lot of questions these days when it comes to dreams. To gain a healthy balance, I have compiled together what I have learned by sitting at the feet of Jesus. When I say that, I don't mean that I am just sitting around sifting through scripture. This comes from years of seeking the Lord on such matters. Learning of the Lord means learning through our personal experience with the Lord! I have always wondered why the Lord would give me dreams that I didn't understand or the interpretation would not be available for many years later. Many of the dreams I do have sometimes the interpretation doesn't come in full up to 2 years after I have had the dream! A few dreams have been as old as 5-6 years. But throughout that time span the Lord has revealed some things to me that allow me to rest in the knowledge that He is in control and to also understand a little better the way that He chooses to use dreams. I write all my dreams down as I was instructed to by the Lord to do. Habbukuk clearly explains this. The vision is for an appointed time! In the END it shall speak, even though it tarries. It will surely come. So we are expected to live by faith until the vision comes to pass. Now in Job, it explains the meaning of vision. You will have to scroll down a bit to read the scripture. Habakkuk 2 2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. 4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. So as you can see here, the thing is secretly brought to you. You received only a little in your thoughts from the visions of the night! What you remember is what you are supposed to remember. The rest has been deposited in your spirit for that END spoken of in Habukkuk which will witness in your spirit as you say, AH! That is what the Lord was saying in the dream. Because we live by faith and not sight, the Lord doesn't reveal it all to us. We must seek the matter out. Job 4 12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof. 13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men, The scripture's tell us that we are kings and priests through Christ Jesus. That understanding can be applied easily to the next scripture. This scripture brings us into a deeper understanding of why it isn't totally revealed to us, or there is a delay in understanding immediately the message in the dream. Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. When we search out a matter that is concealed from our understanding we are doing what Jesus told us to do in the following scripture. However, before we are told what we should do the Lord warns us to be careful whom we share those things with. After he issues that warning, he tells us to ask, seek and knock. We will receive, find and have the door of revelation open to us! However it is important to note that the Lord never does tell us WHEN. It just will happen. Matthew 7 6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Many of us have been given dreams. These dreams are very personal to us, even when the have larger implications for the Body of Christ or the World. When we receive these " visions" be them waking or sleeping, they are used of the Lord to keep us from perishing. Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. As we are all aware, dreams in themselves are not what we are to follow, but rather, it is the Spirit of God who has the interpretation and it is His Spirit that will lead us into all Truth. I hope these scriptures help you in your seeking. It certainly is fun! I love how the Lord works this way. I love Him. He's so much fun to be with. He's my heaven on earth. Genesis 40:8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you. We must remember that ALL things belong to the Lord. He is in total control. Therefore even the interpretation belongs to Him. If we are given the understanding, then He must get the Glory for it, because it is Him that conceals the matter to begin with, and it is up to us to seek the matter out. Many great inventors have received their understandings and concepts in a dream. Some may argue that it is just because these people were smart. Perhaps they just were playing with the occult. I disagree. For the earth and the plenty that is in her IS the Lord's. Not even Satan is privy to that. All knowledge belongs to the Lord. Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 4 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. 8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. Proverbs 8 13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. 14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. 15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. These scriptures will help you understand some of the issues that come up, and questions, when considering how the Lord uses dreams. Dreams and Visions are very similar in how they are treated according to scripture. Because His Spirit is being poured out, we have a responsibility to the gifts and GIVER to be good stewards over all things He gives to us. In this article, we have not touched on the actual interpretation of dreams and visions. That can be a complicated subject to write about. However, we will look at that when the Lord releases me to do so. At this point, He would only have me say, Romans 8 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Romans 9 1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, Hebrews 10 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 1 John 5 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
