June 1st - June 19th
It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.
Under the Morning Sun (3.21.2009 ISO: Tammi)
It was Saturday morning. The rain had finally taken its break, momentarily, and though bits of dew and moisture laid around the brightening earth, it was a rather warm day, so Alex was rather comfortable in a pair of his black, pin-striped pants, black oxford shoes, a fresh, white, undershirt, and a light, navy blue, collared, double-breasted spring jacket.
He left his jacket open as he walked into the courtyard of Hogwarts, his red-wood acoustic guitar bounching slightly off of his back where it hanged. He fiddled with his bangs, the rest of his hair being rather short for the time being, so that they rested perfectly to one side of his head.
The air outside was so crisp, and smelled of spring rain, that Alex knew the unsullied air of the morning always proved to start off a brilliant day. It was around 10 in the morning, so few students were moseying, and the rest no doubt taking the weekend day to sleep in. But Alex always found great inspiration in the start of a new day, and being cooped up in a dormitory wouldn’t exactly bring out that motivation.
So, Alex had decided firmly to head onto the courtyard, guitar in tact, and play a few of the songs he had been working on lately. He was never one to be embarrassed of other people catching him singing some love tune, but there were very few times that others witnessed him playing. Alex always hoped some beautiful girl would hear him playing and fall in love with him, but it had never happened, and was put aside as just another one of Alex's hopelessly romantic fantasies.
Alex looked up at the early, brightly lit sky as he headed towards a stone bench, wheeling his guitar around as he sat on the partially wet surface. He checked the tune of his guitar and look around him for any sign of people, just for the curiosity of it, but there was no one around, and soon enough he couldn’t drift his mind away from just how beautifully this day was starting out.
With perfect timing too. Alex had finally and officially gotten over his ex muggle girlfriend Carly and was feeling better than ever. In fact, his charming skills had completely recovered and the last week had been filled with random and playful flirting with the wide variety of girls around him. Few had sparked interest for him, but none of the girls had completely stood out, so he was still on the hunt. Alex rather enjoyed searching for a catch, and on many occasions, he had found it. Though, it had seemed to be a while since he had really had a good talk or really hung out with a girl. But there was no way he was going to give his hopes up.
Alex’s eyes – who seemed to be a brighter green now under the sun – took into concentration the different strings of his guitar. It was a fairly old one, he must of had it for 4 years now, and had a few scratches on it, but it produced a wonderfully clear sound that made it Alex’s favourite. He positioned his hands on numerous chords, playing a random, melodic tune to get him going. He continued to look into the bluing sky, and he began to play a song he had written just about a half a year ago about a relationship of his muggle friend Jacqueline.
Jacqueline was seventeen
Working on a desk
When Ivor
peered above a spectacle
Forgot that he had wrecked a girl
The song was calming, and the chords simple, but Alex’s voice seemed to stand out more than anything. The lyrics had depth and meaning, and Alex’s soothing English-Scottish mixed voice revealed the emotion in it. Jacqueline was a rather close friend to Alex, and when her ex-boyfriend had dumped and hurt her, he had put much of his sympathy for Jacqueline into lyrics.
Sometimes these eyes
Forget the face they're peering from
When the face they peer upon
Well you know
that face as I do
And how in the return of the gaze
She can return you the face
That you are staring from
Alex decided only on the one verse of his song because the rest had a much more upbeat rhythm to it that wouldn’t go with the acoustic sound. He continued playing an off-beat of it, the chords and tablature becoming more complicated. He finished the bit, after adding a few tabs he was making up on the way, and paused for a moment, looking at the green, wet grass, different bits of his lyrics running through his head. His mind was too concentrated on all the different words and poems that he didn’t take the chance to look around him again, and see if he had caught anyone’s attention.
A particularly poem that he had made a year ago, and only recently turned into a song, popped up in Alex’s mind and he began to play the catchy, mellow, tune. Gently plucking the strings, he began into the song, titled “Fade Together”. His voice came through much more easily now that he had gotten a start at it, and the vocal lessons he took through the summer seemed to have done him very well.
So far away
Come on I'll take you far away
Let's get away
Come on let's make a get away.
The song required a bit of a higher voice pitch, but Alex pulled it off, and the song came together, and very smoothly at that. Alex was pleased at how well the song was flowing, and he grinned slightly, then closed his eyes.
Once you have loved someone this much
You doubt it could fade
Despite how much you'd like it to
God how you'd like it to fade.
Let's fade together
Let's fade forever
Let's fade together
Let's fade forever
Let's fade together
Alex began to remember the girl he had wrote this song about. Her name was Lali and she had beautiful, long, curly, subtle blonde hair and radiant blue eyes. She was from Berlin, and Alex had met her there on a trip with his family to Germany a year or so ago. They only really had a fling, but, as typical, Alex had thought it would turn out to be true love, only to be diminished by the fact that she lived way too far away to start a relationship. So, the lyrics were a bit exaggerated, but it was exactly how Alex had felt about her at one point, and it was rather nice to recall those lovely, gentle sentiments of love, though the song was really about Alex’s departure from Germany, and actually had been written on the train ride home.
If we get away
You know we might just stay away
So stay awake
Why the hell should I stay awake?
When you're far away
Oh god you are so far away
I looked your wall
Saw that old passport photograph
I look like I've just jumped the Berlin Wall
Berlin I love you
I'm starting to fade
Alex opened his eyes and looked down at the guitar as he finished the very last part of the song. His voice slowly drifting away.
Let's fade together
Let's fade forever
Let's fade together
Let's fade forever
Let's fade together
Let's fade forever
Let's fade together
He looked up at that and caught the pale blue eyes of Tammi Shild. He grinned his arching smile and looked down at his guitar, in a playfully shameful sort of manner. So he had - finally - been caught.

Saturday morning were among Tammi Shild’s favorite times – occasionally she would spend the whole morning inside finishing her schoolwork, but since running into Tucker at the courtyard just a matter of weeks before, she had made a point of going outside more often. So often carrying a book or a pad of paper, Tammi spent at least an hour every Saturday morning in the courtyard. This weekend, however, she grabbed her sketchbook on her way out of the sixth year Ravenclaw dorm, and made her way outside. Things for her recently had gone decently well – any sort of interesting events were like a polar bear in a snowstorm, and most of her friends hadn’t been spending very much time with her lately, those in her age group too wrapped up in their own relationships to give her any attention.
It wasn’t that she had a problem with her friends having relationships that soaked up all their time, in fact, she was happy for them. The only problem with it was that she didn’t have someone to put all her time into. Hell, she never had had someone to pour every last bit of her attention into. Most of her time was spent wondering what it would be like to have a boyfriend that truly put a bit of thought into her as a person, to have a boyfriend that she could show off to her friends, to have a boyfriend – just to have one. Of course, she’d prefer to have Tucker as a boyfriend, but as he was with Cory, she’d have to move from one horizon to another; one of these days she’d find someone else to be infatuated with, and maybe the next one wouldn’t be as stalkerish.
With a small sigh, Tammi carried herself down to the courtyard. The weather was warming up a titch, and the rain had finally stopped. She didn’t have much of a problem with rain as her brother did, in fact, she found it rather relaxing. On days like this, she’d rather just sit on the window seat in her flat and watch the patterns of rainfall, the collection of puddles. David, however, would sit in his room with his earplugs in or find somewhere where he couldn’t hear the drops fall.
A small chuckle emerged from Tammi as she settled down underneath a tree in the courtyard, brushing her mind over the memory. She’d make fun of David any chance that she got when she was at home. It was all too easy at times. Siblings were the easiest targets, except for first years. Tammi looked out around the courtyard, with a small smile on her face. The lack of people wasn’t surprising, but was well-welcomed. If there was one thing she wasn’t, it was a people person. Sure, she had her friends, but she’d rather absorb herself in her books any day.
Settling herself deeper under the tree as to hide herself from the rest of the world who might discover her there, Tammi cracked open her sketchbook while fishing in her pocket for a pencil. She hadn’t done much sketching this year, but had maybe one finished piece that she had done for that year. Glancing out across the courtyard, she started sketching the side of the building. It was the easiest thing to draw in her eye’s reach, for a few moments anyways.
Entirely soaked into her sketches, she didn’t notice Alex Worth enter into the courtyard and sit on the bench completely hidden from her sight. It wasn’t until she finished her sketch that the rest of the world zoomed back in. His singing and playing reached the inner depths of her ears, and a small smile spread across her lips again. The sound was beautiful! If there was only a way she could play an instrument or sing like that. She’d have something more to do than to sit and sketch or write when she was really bored.
… Saw that old passport photograph
I look like I've just jumped the Berlin Wall
Berlin I love you
I'm starting to fade…
Tammi stood up at the end of the line, making her way over to the bench where Alex was seated. Just standing there, watching him play, made her feel happier than she had felt when she walked into the courtyard. So, for a few moments, she just stood there, watching him.
Let's fade together
Let's fade forever
Let's fade together
Let's fade forever
Let's fade together
Let's fade forever
Let's fade together
As he stopped, and looked down at his guitar, her smile faltered. Now that his attention was on her presence, she was suddenly more self-conscious. Her attempt at appearances hardly had been given an effort with a pair of deep purple jeans with a black scoop neck tshirt. As usual, she’d pulled her hair back in a bun, and had left her face without makeup. Her cheeks flushed a bit, and the smile was replaced.
”Oh, don’t stop because of me! It was beautiful!” She complained, moving over to sit on the bench next to him.
Re: Under the Morning Sun (3.21.2009 ISO: Tammi)
Alex knew Tammi since their first year, due to the fact that she was in the same year. He had been friends with her for the last two, but it hadn’t been any an extremely close friendship. Just the sort where you hang out from time to time, make playful comments back and forth, and from time to time have little chats. She had never really stood out to him at first. She was low-key and usually in study, but he had always appreciated chatting and having a good time with her, because when she finally got her head out of the books, she was very much enjoyable to be around, and when chatting, she was always very honest.
But today she seemed to look different. Alex hadn’t noticed her deep purple jeans with and black scoop neck tee shirt she wore, or that her hair was pulled back in a bun and her face was unmarked my make-up. Instead, her eyes struck out at him. Maybe it was the bright, beaming sky’s reflection that started making Alex realize how beautifully Tammi was really growing to be, but – with a hopeless romantic at mind – it was a little more than just that.
How come he had never looked in her this way before? Well, it was partially due to his last girlfriend. Carly was popular, outgoing, a snob, an absolute flirt, and not the best of brains, and their relationship, no matter how very fun it was to be with her, lacked that personal touch. In fact, she almost seemed the opposite of Tammi, and perhaps that’s why Alex was looking at her this way. He was done with that loud, obnoxious girl, and it was the moist, sunny breeze and the release of playing a guitar, too, that made Alex want to be in a much calmer and mellow relationship; with a girl that didn’t drag him to malls, dances, and other places where they were constantly moving and talking to other people. It had been fun while it lasted, but now that he was done with Carly, and he wanted to have intelligent, philosophical discussions, instead of the “omagosh have you seen Sam’s new hair?” sort. He wanted soft, beautiful kisses, instead of extreme and slobbery make-out scenes. He wanted a kind-hearted and loyal girl, not a bitchy gossip queen. Did…Alex want Tammi?
Alex noticed her cheeks flush a bit, and he didn’t know why, but he thought it was cute. Her smile was cuter. “Oh, don’t stop because of me! It was beautiful!” Alex smiled at her again, a longer, more sincere one this time. It was the sort of comment Alex could find some charming reply to and declared a ‘thank you’, but this calming mood of his that put his fingers back on the strings to play again. Plus, Alex loved the word beautiful, and if anyone had commented that something he was doing was beautiful, why should he stop?
Tammi sat down beside him, and the smile still hadn’t quite whipped off from his face. He wasn’t exactly sure which song he would pick out to play, but he caught a glimpse of a blackbird flying into the tree Tammi had come from, and his fingers began into a song. It wasn’t his, but rather ‘Blackbird’ by the Beatles. He watched his fingers at first. ‘Blackbird’ was one of the first songs he had learned, so he knew it extremely well by now, though he never once got tired of playing it. More than that, its melody was perfect for the atmosphere around him, and the sentiments inside of him. He closed his eyes for a moment as he began to sing the lyrics.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Alex opened his eyes, and turned his eyes to Tammi’s delicate ones, watching her as he continued to play, a slight grin still enact on his face. They had barely talked at all this morning, and yet, Alex was slowly falling for her. The moment was beautiful; playing the guitar to Tammi felt beautiful. Like a scene you might read out of a classic love novel. He kept his eyes in hers, gazing with a deep look. He was trying to look in at her feelings, and at the same time, he was trying to reel her in.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free
Misty, small drops of rain began to land here and there, but Alex hadn’t noticed. He was in a deep fixation. He had his eyes closed again, and a warm feeling was spreading all through him as he listened to the harmonious guitar, and the steady and meaningful singing voice of his.
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
The drops were getting bigger and bigger, and soon enough it began pouring, the sun still seeming to thrust its rays into the bits of dark cloud. Alex didn’t mind rain at all. It was this sort of rain, especially, that he loved. The kind that was still, and big, and still left the sky bright. He went into the last part of the song, before it kicked into him that rain and his guitar we’re not a good mix.
“Ah…” Alex murmured as he quickly leaped up from the seat and ran to the outer – sheltered – part of the courtyard. He brushed the wet drops on it with his sleeve before walking back out into the rain. He closed his eyes and held his hands out to catch the drops as he walked slowly back to Tammi.
“Its wondrous,” he stated, a few metres from her, his voice slightly lovey dovey, and a small, but obviously pleased, smile on his face. He opened his eyes and looked at Tammi again. Everytime he opened them to her, it seemed like he was more and more glad to see Tammi’s face again, that he was able to share a beautiful moment like this with someone.
“What’s your favourite part about the rain?” he asked, his eyes slightly narrowing as he tried to guess what it might be, but his face still beaming with delight.

Re: Under the Morning Sun (3.21.2009 ISO: Tammi)
It had been a few years since Alex and Tammi had been friends - casual howdy-do friends, yes, but still friends. It was hard to believe that she knew next to nothing about him. Before this moment, she wouldn't have even thought that he played an instrument. For years, she had always had a thing for musical men, now that she looked back at it. In fact, now as she looked at Alex a small pitter-patter started in her heart. The starting of a crush? Maybe the end to her obsession with Tucker. Who knew? Perhaps the fact that she had felt no feelings like this for Alex before would be the reason why she suddenly felt the urge to reach over and grab his hand.
Now, stop, wait - it was time to be realistic. She wouldn't know what to do after grabbing his hand, or what she would say. The kind of person Tammi was insured that she wouldn't do or say anything to lead him on until she knew for sure that he liked her as well. As stunningly booksmart she was, her knowledge of males was much, much worse. Sometimes she didn't even know how to act around them. Now was no exception. The fear from the situation that had arisen send chills running up and down her spine. She knew that Alex had had girlfriends, of course - girls would be insane not to want to go out with him - so he most likely knew how to treat a girl. However, Tammi had no sort of experience in the subject - none at all.
In fact, just sitting next to him brought a warm, secure feeling. Tammi had always drempt of having a saf, secure relationship that was loyal and comforting. Was Alex a man that would bring all she wanted, and more? Gods above, these thoughts were going to drive her insane!
As his fingers stretched out over the strings of his guitar, she desperately wondered which tune he would play. Tammi knew that she wasn't the biggest music major in the world, but she knew a great number of tunes - older ones due to her father and more modern ones due to her brother. Her expanse of music tastes were wide, and all of her family members knew it. The tune that was plucked from Alex's guitar was not only one she knew, but one of her favorites. 'Blackbird' was one of the songs that her father had first played for her when she had moved in with them. So, quietly, she followed the lyrics in her head.
When Alex's eyes found hers, and held them, she knew - she definately had a crush on this boy, for sure. His eyes were so beautiful! The color was unexplainable, and Tammi herself had always called them the wheel of available eye colors on the next model, as a joke. Just studying his eyes gave her a new meaning, as cheesy as it sounded to even her. She felt like she found a perfect spot to be, right under the gaze of Alex and sitting next to him for the rest of eternity.
It was times like these that she prayed that he felt something for her as well.
As the soft mist of rain began to fall, Alex's eyes closed and Tammi brought her attention off the boy next to her and onto the fact that her perfectly vulnerable sketchbook was sitting on her lap. Oh no! Not her precious paper! She'd either have to sacrifice it for listening to Alex, or dart off to put it under shelter and come back. There was no way that she'd get the same sketches back, ever. So, taking a daring chance, she stood and quickly ran over to the sheltered area on the courtyard, and put down her sketchbook, sitting back down next to Alex as he finished the song. This time, she finished it with him.
"Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life."
Her voice wasn't quite a perfect singing voice, and wasn't even considered good. She could carry a tune without killing the people next to her, sure, but singing definately wouldn't be her future. A small smile was placed on her face as she looked back up at Alex when he stopped singing. The drops that fell on her were getting much bigger, more heavy. Rain was so enjoyable at times, it really was. However, she knew that somewhere in London, her brother was cowering in a corner somewhere with a book, and the thought brought a large smile to her face. As Alex stood up to shelter his guitar as she had done with her sketchbook, she settled a bit and appraised the situation. What would she do? She had faced the same hardship with Tucker, not too long ago. She didn't know how to handle herself, and she had once almost let herself go crazy with her obsession. If she remembered correctly, she had just almost gotten to the point of plastering pictures of the boy all over the wall on her dorm. She shook her head in disgust, and smiled delightfully as Alex walked back.
“Its wondrous,”
His words made her look up - those were the first spoken to her this morning, and for sure they were melodious. After all, she was looking at him in a new light.
"Aye, that's for sure."
She tilted her head up to the rain, letting the cool drops drip onto and down her face, running across her skin. It was a great feeling, seeing that there was nothing this great inside her dorm. She really needed to stop holing herself in her dorm, this was uniquely great.
“What’s your favourite part about the rain?”
Tammi's head tilted down again to look at Alex. This would take a bit of thought - puddles or patterns, puddles or patterns? Both? Neither? Gosh. Racking her brain, she smiled weakly and pulled up her answer.
"I guess... The patterns of the rainfall - it's just like snow. Each snowflake is never the same, and the patterns of rainfall never fall in the same order twice."
Good answer, she thought - intellectual and extremely annoying to anyone who didn't want to hear it. Another smile crossed her face as an idea crossed her mind, so she stood and took a couple steps towards Alex.
"Alex... we've been friends for a couple years, right? Would you mind helping me with something I've wanted to do for a while?"
Tammi almost couldn't stop laughing as she crossed the last few steps between them, and straightened her face as she held out her hand.
"I didn't get to go to the Valentine's Ball, and I've always wanted to dance in the rain. Dance with me?"
OOC:
zomg I just had to do it... I saw the opportunity... meow.
Re: Under the Morning Sun (3.21.2009 ISO: Tammi)
(OCC - Tehe. Funness!. Sorry this took me so long!)
"I guess... The patterns of the rainfall - it's just like snow. Each snowflake is never the same, and the patterns of rainfall never fall in the same order twice."
A smile peeped on the side of Alex’s mouth at Tammi’s answer. He always loved hearing her answers to all sort of things because they were always so intellectual and well thought through. It was defiantly a nice change from Carly, Alex thought, who probably would tell him she didn’t know, or to get his head out of the skies. In fact, Carly probably didn’t even like the rain at all – it would mess up her hair. Alex was ready to give his much more simple answer, but Tammi continued speaking. Alex didn’t mind at all, though, and put his answer away for later. In the mean time, he was deciding what to make of Tammi’s closer steps to him. Quickly, he decided he rather enjoyed it.
"Alex... we've been friends for a couple years, right?” Alex nodded his head, though he was absolutely curious what Tammi was leading into. His face stayed relaxed, though through his eyes you could almost see his yearning to hear her confess some sort of love for him. “Would you mind helping me with something I've wanted to do for a while?" Tammi laughed and Alex laughed a bit with her. Though he didn’t know what she was talking about, he had always been rather immune to laughing, “What is it?” he added in between soft breaths of her laugh. His head was titled a bit toward Tammi and his eyes were in deep concentration and wonder over her.
"I didn't get to go to the Valentine's Ball, and I've always wanted to dance in the rain. Dance with me?" Alex, before anything, grinned modestly and agreeably at Tammi. He didn’t even notice how much the rain really was pouring down at the moment, and how his hair was completely drenched, drops escaping from the ends to splatter on his face every once and a while. His clothes were becoming equally soaked, though Alex didn’t seem to mind. At a proposition like that, Alex’s mind was in wander around Tammi. Dancing in the rain was just another situation a hopeless romantic dreamed of experiencing. He didn’t hesitate to accept, and gently folded his hand so that it properly grabbed the one Tammi held out to him.
His smile grew larger as he looked into her eyes, “Of course” he responded, like there wasn’t any other choice he would of made. At the same time, he glided his hand onto her waist and a little down her curvy side to get his hand in the proper position - a bit of a reach, as he was about 8 inches taller than her, but in no way abiding signs of discomfort. Alex liked Tammi curves. They were womanly and in no means chubby. Her body was natural, not twiggy. But Alex didn’t let his mind drift for too long over one thing, as it was eager to take as much enjoyment out of the situation as possible.
One might think dancing to be a little difficult without a song, but Alex was finding no trouble in it. He slowly began wavering around and slowly spinning Tammi and himself around. He continued to look into her light, hypnotic eyes, grin still smug on his face of course, and found himself falling deeper for her. The rain, he decided, was the rhythm of their song for this moment, and it was one of Mother Nature’s best.
Alex was almost positive he wanted to get to know Tammi a lot better. When your dancing in the rain with someone, how could you not? Falling in love like this was a weakness of Alex’s, but you could find no one else who enjoyed such a weakness better. Alex wanted the rain to pour all morning, so that he could dance with Tammi for longer.
He lifted his hand from her side, and twirled her around with his hand. In fact, Alex was a rather good dancer, having danced with a good handful of girls previously, and a rather good bunch at the Valentine’s ball as well. He wasn’t thinking about those other girls now, though, and rather was curious as to why Tammi didn’t go to the Valentine’s ball.
Once the twirl was completed, Alex returned his tender hand back to Tammi’s side. His grinned vanished for a moment, and he looked at Tammi with a sincere and open-ears sort of expression on his face, “How come you didn’t go to the Valentine’s Ball?” he asked, continuing to guide them leisurely rotation.
Re: Under the Morning Sun (3.21.2009 ISO: Tammi)“Of course”
The glance into his eyes that followed his statement to Tammi was enough to send her heart soaring. She had hoped he would accept, of course, but she hadn’t really thought he’d accept. Either way, she was sure that the experience would be enough to send her into daydreams for months. Things like that often did. The warmth of his hand as he pulled her towards him, letting his hand rest on her waist, sent her face into double time on blushing – she just couldn’t stop, and it seemed to get redder by the second.
Tammi swirled her tongue around the inside of her cheeks, loosening up the tension that caused her to blush, and looked up at Alex with a small, dreamy smile. He was much too tall, though she didn’t exactly have a problem with it. She was used to being sixteen and having eleven year olds who were taller than her, so it wasn’t that much of a deal to her. Except for the fact that she’d have a crick in her neck next time she tried to look up at something – but hey, she was used to it.
She let her free hand drift up to behind his neck. She’d never really had a dance before, aside from in her dreams, so she was going by the older movies that her father had made her sit through before she came to Hogwarts. If she was getting it wrong, though, she was sure that Alex would correct her. It felt right being so close to him, feeling the swing of his arms holding her close, keeping her balanced. It felt comfortable.
Tammi made sure to make eye contact every once in a while – not too often, of course, because every time she did so, she felt her cheeks rise up in a blush. She’d never had these types of feelings about a friend before, and it was very, very different to feel them. Heck, the only person she’d really had a crush on was Tucker, and that went terribly wrong. However, every time she took a glance at him, she felt her heart beat faster, and faster at intervals. His eyes made her want to stare at him for hours on end without moving her center of attention.
Was she falling for him?
She really didn’t know, but she would pay anything to find out. She’d never fallen in love, never even dwelled on the thought for more than a split second at a time. Would she every fall in love? Only time would tell. The only thing she could do to contain her excitement was to convince herself that he indeed had no feelings for her whatsoever, and to think so was blasphemy and heresy.
As he twirled her, the quick look at the world around her brought her screaming back to reality. The world around her was like a fairytale, and there was no such thing as a real life fairytale, not in her eyes. She’d spent too much time around loss, violence, and hatred to think that she, the victim of years upon years of abuse, was able to have a perfectly happy life. There was no way to convince herself that she could live this fairytale, because for her, it wasn’t reality. What if Alex turned out to be someone like Christopher? She didn’t want something like that to happen to her. She didn’t want to send up like her mother.
“How come you didn’t go to the Valentine’s Ball?”
A smile came across her face as his hand rested back on her waist. She’d have to combine the worlds of reality and fairytale one day, and she’d have to settle for something. Maybe, just maybe, she could settle for a little more than her mother.
’I was unavoidably detained’ she thought bitterly, then looked up at Alex with an extremely small smile.
”No one asked me to go, so I figured I’d just get caught up on my reading. Plus, I doubt I would have gotten a dance.”
She almost, almost winced at her answer. Book-smart was an underestimation. She had said that she was going to make a change, and that change was going very, very slowly. She wasn’t going to be able to do it during the school year – maybe the summer would help her look up.
[OOC: Sorry it took so long, been slacking like usual.]
Re: Under the Morning Sun (3.21.2009 ISO: Tammi)
Alex couldn’t help but notice Tammi’s blushing. Every time she looked into his eyes, her cheeks flushed. He thought it was adorable, and each time he smirked, complimented by it. When she looked into his eyes, she looked deep, and Alex liked that too. It was as if she, too, was trying to reach inside and see a part of him. Though Tammi still seemed to lack a sense of confidence, and Alex couldn’t figure out why. They danced, though it was a bit awkward given their height differences, and the Hufflepuff boy was thinking about all the things he liked about this Ravenclaw girl.
She was smart, cute, fun, sensitive, kind-hearted…so why did she seem like she was so down on herself? It’s hard for boys to understand those sort of things about girls, especially when, as every second went by, he was falling for her. Alex had this urging feeling inside of him like he wanted to make her feel like a million bucks. He loved being able to make a girl feel like that. He loved being able to make them feel beautiful and adored, and Tammi seemed to need it more than anyone. Alex’s expression went dazed for a moment as he tried to think about things that would boost up her moral. Though, there were those things that a friend could do, like give a pep talk, and the things a…boyfriend would do, like tell her she’s beautiful - because she was. But, although Alex had managed to make the girl blush, he didn’t want to assume that she had instantly crushed on him. Maybe she was just trying to be friendlier, and not really looking at him in any other way.
“How come you didn’t go to the Valentine’s Ball?” he had asked, almost in attempt to try to get more clues into Tammi’s thoughts at the same time. Tammi looked up at him with a faint smile, ”No one asked me to go, so I figured I’d just get caught up on my reading. Plus, I doubt I would have gotten a dance.”
Alex had narrowed his eyes questioningly at Tammi at first. He had been so sure that other guy’s out there would have liked her and asked her, and he was sure that the last thing Tammi needed was more reading. Though, his expressions switched when his minded hinted the emotions in her voice, and he looked back down at her with heartfelt eyes. He had gone to the Valentine’s Ball alone, but had a nice handful of dances from many different girls. He was trying to think of why Tammi had never popped up in his mind that entire time, and was sort of mad of himself for not noticing her in this way before. He guessed that it had been because he had always seen her as a buddy sort before then or that he just didn’t think Tammi was looking for any guys at the time, because, it really didn’t seem like she was. But whichever way it went, he wished that Tammi had gone. It would much nicer to dance with her with music in the background. The rain, however, was almost just as beautiful. Quiet, but steady. But Alex couldn’t concentrated enough on its rhythm because he couldn’t steer his thoughts away from the fact that a girl like Tammi just didn’t deserve to feel uncared for like that.
He quickly spat out the first thought that entered his mind, “I would have danced with you”. This came out right after Tammi’s reply, but it had done so smoothly and comfortingly. There was truth in it, and sincerity. He looked deep into Tammi’s light orbs, deeper than he had before, and he just couldn’t stop himself from picturing the two of them as a couple. Alex was good at getting ahead of himself like that; he had done it many times before.
His eyes were searching Tammi’s and he had the urge to draw her closer. He had officially fallen for her, easy enough to tell now, and he had given up any prospect of doubting it. His face slightly leaned closer to her, but he paused. He didn’t want to act before he knew that Tammi wanted to, so his eyes were speaking to hers, trying to get her to draw closer, trying to show her that he liked her, trying to bring her into the moment. He was so stuck in her eyes that he hadn’t realized he had stopped dancing, that the rain was still pouring down and drenching his attire more than ever, and that his head was bowing down slightly more and more, very slowly, and before he knew it his lips were against hers.
Re: Under the Morning Sun (3.21.2009 ISO: Tammi)
Tammi felt at the moment that Alex relaxed into regular rotations that there was something wrong – maybe not with him, but with her. She had been trying so hard to make these changes, not only for her own wellbeing, but also for the wellbeing of everyone around her. There was something in her eyes that affected the way people acted around her, and she didn’t like the fact that everyone treated her like a bookworm. Of course, she treated herself like a bookworm.
This summer, though, she was sure that she would make enough changes to make herself happy. She would make sure that she had a boyfriend next year if it was the last thing she did – and Alex Worth would do perfectly fine.
“I would have danced with you”
At that moment, a thousand thoughts were rushing through Tammi Shild’s head – above all of them, though, was doubt. Was this seriously what she wanted, to have a relationship with one of her best friends? It seemed like something straight out of a fairytale, and her whole life was nothing like a fairytale. However, as much doubt as she had, she could sense that there was a portion of truth in his voice, and the fact that there was so spread a smile across her face. So what if she was setting herself up for rejection? She wasn’t looking for someone for the rest of her life, not right now in any case. Someone for right now would be fine – but she wouldn’t back down from someone who would satiate her curiosity for the remainder of her life.
Calming down the raging river of thoughts that wouldn’t stop beating against the surface of her forehead, she looked up into his eyes – longer than before, mainly because no blush rose to the top of her cheeks, and deeper. There was something that she found in the depths of his eyes that told her that she would like to do nothing better than to kiss him right here – right in the middle of their dance, where it felt right. She would like to do nothing better than to woo him until his knees went weak.
Feeling uncomfortable with the distance that they stood apart, Tammi adjusted herself to fit better into the crook of his arm, smiling up at him. For the first time in a long while, she felt truly happy. Now granted, she was only about an inch closer than she had been, but to her, that one inch made all the difference. She relaxed a bit, and focused her attention on the area around his head. It sounded weird to her, even in her thoughts, but she knew that if she had any chance in kissing him, it was to watch even the slightest movements of his head.
And then she saw it.
The slightest bow of his head – was he trying to kiss her, just as she was expecting him to? A heavy drop of rain splashed across the tip of her nose, the cold water running down, and she felt the need to push herself against Alex to shield her body from the rain. As much as she loved rain, she didn’t like getting wet. Wrapping herself up in her thoughts, along with the realization that they were no longer dancing in slow rotations, she opened her eyes for only a second before closing them again, noticing how close his face was to hers.
Then he kissed her.
She felt as if she was in heaven, dancing around in little circles with bleached wings, singing the Hallelujah chorus. If this was what kissing felt like, she knew now why everyone was doing it. It felt wondrous, to know that someone had enough care for you to hold you close and to kiss you so lovingly, even when others wouldn’t touch you with a ten-foot pole. She knew now that even if she didn’t want to in the future, she would have a close tie with Alex, him being the very first person she kissed – and hopefully, the first one she dated.
But Lord, she was happy.
Tammi stayed still for a couple more seconds, and then pulled back slowly, letting her lungs fill with air while her eyes were still closed. She wouldn’t be able to speak, even if she wanted to. His kiss had left her speechless. Her lips stayed partly open, and then her eyes flickered open. It felt to her like her eyes were getting opened to the world for a second time, a better time. Glancing into his eyes one last times, she licked her lips and smiled.
”Wow…”
The only word she could say was ‘wow’… how intelligent could that be?
