Valentino Rasputin
OOC
Name: Rei
Contacts: final.ultimatum@gmail.com
Age: 16
Code: Hermione Granger
IC:
Full Name: Valentino Rasputin
Nickname(s): Val, St. Valentine
DOB: April 12, 1992
Year: Sixth
Blood: Halfblood (Father was Muggleborn)
House Preference: Gryffindor
Why: Val is naturally rebellious and bold; he is unafraid to step out of his comfort zone and do things most people wouldn’t do. He marches to his own beat and has an extremely strong will that is usually very difficult to break. While not quite the hero type, Val can be considered somewhat brave (though more reckless than brave) and will stand up for what he believes in. He’s also quite bullheaded and stubborn, oftentimes not standing down even when it’s obvious that he’s lost and, in that sense, is a rather sore loser. Val although most of the time avoiding crowds, subconsciously likes attention as well. A lot of his actions seems to scream for attention and, although he tends to act as though he prefers to go unnoticed, Val does indeed, take some pleasure out of attention, good or bad.
Physical Appearance:
When it comes to his appearance, Valentino has always been described as looking devious and mysterious with his dark, Italian features. Despite the fact he does have Russian blood in him, it is clear that his Italian heritage was the dominant trait in this case. Aside from his skin, everything about him is dark, from his eyes to his hair. Although not nearly as dark as eyes can come, Val’s eyes are quite a murky shade of brown. Of course, when there is some light present, his eyes can appear a bit lighter, perhaps even having some amber highlights, but normally, Val’s eyes remain the flat and murky brown often associated with coffee. Dark brown, nearly black eyebrows frame those eyes, which often makes them seem a little bit lighter than they really are. Valentino’s eyebrows are thick, making him look as though he is always either angry or up to something, which many times, he is. His hair, like his eyebrows, is thick as well, usually kept a bit short on the sides but long on the top. The extent to which Val styles his hair is usually just putting some gel in his hair after briefly brushing his hair, if at all. He rather enjoys the slightly mussed up look.
To compliment his dark features, Val has rather pale skin. Although his skin isn’t ghostly pale or sickly pale, it still fairly light for someone who is used to hanging around outside a lot. But nonetheless, it remains free of any blemishes or birthmarks, though he does have a few scars here and there due to his somewhat untamed nature. Also, Valentino has a tattoo on the inside of his right bicep, which he got when he turned fifteen. The tattoo is a light blue outline of a star, outlined in black. Although it remains hidden for the most part, seeing as it is on the inside of his arm, it still peaks out from underneath shirt sleeves, and can be seen when Val raises his hand. But most of the time it remains snuggly hidden under his shirt. Of course, Val does like wearing short-sleeved shirts quite a bit, seeing as he doesn’t mind showing off his body. Having come from a background in which he did quite a bit of physical labor around the house, Valentino has quite a well-toned body and there is quite a bit of muscle on him, especially in his arms and legs. The muscle does, perhaps, have something to do with the amount of fighting he gets himself into as well, for Val is no stranger to getting into physical squabbles with his peers and because of that reason, is quite an apt fighter, despite the fact he isn’t quite as large as others may be. And also due to the work and the fighting, the boy has strong hands that are rough in texture, but quite deft.
Val’s face is somewhat narrow and angular, and can’t really be described as round. His face is the same pale color as the rest of his body and just the same, he doesn’t have any birthmarks and has neither tattoos, piercings, or scars either. Still, Val has quite a mature-looking face that doesn’t always seem fitting for a sixteen-year-old boy. If he let his facial hair grow out, he could, perhaps, pass as much older than he really is, but the boy likes to keep his facial hair in check and shaves as often as is necessary. But what often draws attention is Val’s mouth, and it isn’t simply due to the tough southern drawl that spills out from his lips. Upon closer inspection, one would come to notice that Valentino’s mouth appears somewhat crooked, and that isn’t far from the truth. Val was born with dead nerve endings in the left side of his lower lip, thus making him unable to move or feel that portion of his lip. He has no problem talking or eating or anything, but it’s just the appearance that is a bit strange, which could be one of the reasons Val prefers not to full out smile most of the time. But then again, that could just be his nature.
Valentino is lean in appearance and despite having some muscle mass, isn’t all that large or powerful looking. He stands at an average five foot nine inches and doesn’t appear particularly built. But the manner in which he holds himself makes him seem much more tougher than he really looks. Although he does tend to slouch quite a bit, Val does it in a tasteful manner, giving him a sort of James Dean, rebel-without-a-cause sort of look and he does it quite well. Nothing in Val’s body language ever betrays the fact that he is smaller than he acts and he always moves with confidence and authority. He has a sort of nonchalant and rebellious swagger, further adding to his somewhat roguish appearance and attitude, with his hands in the pockets of his pants and his face usually bearing a cool, indifferent look or a mischievous smirk. Even the way in which the boy wears his clothing seems to showcase his label as a rebel, for when not in uniform, Val wears slightly loose jeans and t-shirts, despite the fact he comes from a rather wealthy family. He also wears sweatbands and leather wristbands, as well as dog tags and whatnot. His shoes are usually worn out Converses and his pants are oftentimes held up with a black leather belt, though the buckle usually changes depending on Val’s mood. As far as his Hogwarts uniform goes, Val would rather not wear it, though he does. Oftentimes, his tie is a bit loose and his shirt is untucked in a few spots. His cuffs are usually unbuttoned as well and his sleeves are rolled up. Val likes to wear his slacks a bit looser than usually and allows them to hang precariously around his hip areas, held up by his black leather belt.
Personality:
While the saying “looks can be deceiving” is true sometimes, in Valentino’s case, it isn’t. He looks like a punk and, for the most part, acts like one too. He can be rude, brash, and apathetic toward others, not really caring about what they think of him or anything else. He acts in an impulsive manner, doing whatever he wants to and doesn’t really have a sense of looking before he leaps. He simply doesn’t think too much about consequences. In fact, he tends not to think at all about consequences, even when he’s facing them. Despite his explosive and wild nature, Val is somewhat graceful when it comes to receiving punishment for whatever he’s done, since he’s gotten used to getting punished from a young age. He was never treated badly, but rather he constantly stepped over the line and there had to be people to put him back in line. But even though Val has been constantly warned, he continues to tread the boundaries, occasionally stepping over and seeing how much he can get away with, before someone growls at him again. Although it may seem like it, it isn’t really authority Val has a problem with. If he respects someone and acknowledges their dominance, he has no problem listening to them and following their orders, so long as they are within reason. His tendency to test his boundaries is more out of curiosity rather than disrespect for authority. Well, unless that authority is his father.
Curiosity plays a very big role in the type of person Val is. He always seems to have questions, whether they be important or not, and is unafraid of asking them. He is outspoken and outgoing and has no problem with being shot down and has many times. But that doesn’t seem to hurt his confidence and rebellious nature at all and he continues to ask questions and stick his nose where it, perhaps, doesn’t really belong. Despite the fact he acts indifferent toward others, he does actually care about what’s going on with other people and likes to find things out. Of course, once people ask him why he wants to know, Val usually just shrugs his should and walks off, pretending like he didn’t really care to begin with. He puts on the façade of a tough guy in that way and continues to mask his real nature. Val is a very private person and doesn’t particularly enjoy opening up to people and letting them into his life. He rather prefers to keep people at arms length and isn’t at all intimate. He has trouble being sentimental and emotional and would rather remain stoic and uncaring. But, as most people, he isn’t heartless. While Val would like people to think he is heartless, there are things that can penetrate his tough exterior and he is, in essence, human. When he does, by some freak chance, manage to get attached to someone, he will look after them and does have a tendency to be overprotective, as he is with his younger sister. In that sense, Val does have an overwhelming need to be strong and therefore hates showing weaknesses. He feels obligated to be the strong person, which is most likely the reason for his strict independence. Valentino hates asking for help and is quite incapable of doing so.
Indecisiveness is not a trait often associated with Valentino, for he makes decisions quickly and has a tendency not to look back them. The boy isn’t the type to regret any decisions and has just accepted the fact that things happen and the past can’t be changed. He believes that there is no use lingering over what happened and instead just lives in the present. Val is a very “in the now” kind of guy and lives for the moment, thinking that the past shouldn’t be worried about and the future will reveal itself in time. He likes excitement and adrenaline rush, which usually explains the reason why he likes to push things a little too much. What Val pushes on the most though, is himself. He always had high expectations for his work and always wanted to do the best. He never does anything he has passion for half-assed and if he has the motivation, will bull headedly pursue what he wants. Val is especially passionate about his dream of becoming a dragon keeper and doesn’t allow himself to slack off when it comes to that. He expects the best from himself and does whatever he can to achieve the best. Because of his naturally determined nature, Val is also very big on competition and doesn’t mind facing a challenge every now and then. He takes pride in proving himself better than others and on that note, will grudgingly accept the fact that someone is better than him as well. Of course, when he loses at something, it simply makes him all the more determined to get better.
Val might not be the type to full out cheat, but he has no problem deceiving people. In fact, Val is quite good at putting on whatever face he believes will get him what he wants. He tries not to blatantly lie all the time, but he lies when he believes it is for the best or if he believes he will benefit from the lie. The young man doesn’t seem to have many moral qualms, but strangely enough, he keeps a handle on his lying. Despite his apathetic nature, Val seems to have an odd desire to keep people believing whatever lies will make them feel better. His instinct is to keep people in good spirits in contrast to his own somewhat pessimistic thoughts, and just can’t help keeping people oblivious. But at the same time, Val distances himself from people, both out of habit and instinct. Val also is just a naturally independent person and can survive just fine without the company of others. In fact, he is probably better at walking by himself than beside other people, for he is a rebel at heart and likes to do things his way. If he doesn’t respect the people he has to work with, chances are, he won’t work with them willingly. He will be the one sitting in the corner muttering insulting comments under his breath and doing what was assigned to him and just what was assigned to him. Val isn’t the type to downright refuse to do something, but he will definitely either make life hell, or will just act coldly indifferent to the entire situation, detaching himself and doing his part.
For the most part, Val just doesn’t like to do what he doesn’t want to do. In the end, he will grudgingly do it, but usually after a lot of complaints and snide remarks. Val has always been described as a bit cynical and sarcastic, and does tend to make a few unnecessary comments now and then. He tries to bit them back at times, but mostly, they just slip out, which explains why he tends to march to his own beat. Val, although he does enjoy company, has a knack of chasing people away from him. In truth, he seeks acceptance, but he simply is incapable of expressing said feelings and just ends up making sardonic comments about things. In general, Valentino just isn’t a very sentimental person and gets rather uncomfortable when things get a bit too mushy and is the type to just make up and excuse or make a run for it when things get too sappy for his liking. Some would say he is afraid of commitment, which is, for the most part, true. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t trying. Val is quite taken with girls and he has a very suave, somewhat charismatic aura about him when he’s trying to woo a girl. While he may be brash and apathetic normally, when he really wants to be, Val has a way of changing himself and can sometimes even win a girl over with his “Southern charm”.
History:
Vladimir Rasputin was a simple boy raised on a ranch in Georgia, his father coming from Russian decent and his mother from Italian. Eva Valerio was from a small, Italian pureblood family in Wyoming. The two met each other when they both became teachers at the prominent Wizarding school in the Midwest. Vladimir taught Defense Against the Dark Arts while Eva taught Care of Magical Creatures, though the two never got together until after Eva left to pursue her dream of training and breeding magical creatures. She eventually opened up a rehabilitation clinic for sick and injured creatures, both wild and domestic, while Vladimir continued with his teaching job at the Missahba Academy of Magic. After a two-year long courtship, the two were engaged and a few months later, married. They settled down on a nice ranch in Georgia where Eva was able to keep the various creatures she tended to and rehabilitated. Witches and wizards from the surrounding areas often took their sick animals to her to heal and she made a good living in that manner. The ranch was also not so far from Missahba, so even during the school year, the couple saw each other fairly regularly and could be with each other when they wanted to. It wasn’t long before there was an addition to the family, and that addition was their son, Valentino.
Valentino Rasputin was supposed to be a model child. He grew up in a well-off family and had parents who had stable jobs and who loved him. The only potential flaw in his life was that his father expected greatness from him and was constantly pushing on Val, even from a very young age. As a child, Val only wanted to make his father proud of him so he crawled along through the first few years of his life, hardly understanding anything but still wanting to impress his father. Val had always been attached to Vladimir and was always pining for the man’s attention. Of course, as luck would have it, the principal of Missahba resigned and Vladimir was promoted to the position, thus giving Valentino yet another thing to compete against for his father’s attention. And as if things weren’t hectic enough, the couple had another child, this time a girl by the name of Veronica. Val was five at the time and it was safe to say that at the beginning, he completely despised his little sister. But after a while, he found himself incapable of hating her and grew rather attached to her. It was about this time that Valentino also decided that he didn’t need his father’s approval for anything, and began traveling down a different path from the one he’d been on before.
As he grew older, Val developed a keen interest in his mother’s work involving the various magical creatures and once he was old enough, began helping her out. Veronica, or Ronnie, as she’d been affectionately dubbed, often tagged along behind him and although Val was a bit annoyed at first, he soon grew used to it and, ultimately, began to expect it. He made sure she was always safe and that she never went into any of the dangerous animal enclosures and whatnot, and all in all just looked out for her like a protective older brother. Eva watched the two lovingly and could only smile at their relationship. She allowed her children to help her, though only with some of the less dangerous things, mostly involving the magical creatures who weren’t all that magical as well as the non-magical creatures. Valentino developed a special liking to the horses, both normal and winged and when he was about eight, began learning how to ride. He caught on quickly and was soon riding around everywhere on the little pony his mother bought for him. Of course, although Val did love horses, where his heart truly lied was with the most dangerous creatures of all: the dragons. The Rasputins had no dragons on their ranch of course, but Eva had worked with them before and had all sorts of stories Val eagerly listened to. Despite all of the dangers his mother told him about, the boy was enticed. He’d always been somewhat fearless when it came to animals and dragons were no different -- the boy decided that one day, he would become a dragon tamer. His mother later corrected him and told him the correct occupation was dragon keeper, for dragons were untamable creatures. While some people made stories of taming dragons and there were always Muggle stories where people rode on the backs of dragons, which was simply impossible. Dragons were vicious and wild and, even when raised in captivity, would never be able to be domesticated. But, of course, Val was young and at that age, he could be whatever he wanted to be.
It was about that time that Vladimir tried to intervene in the boy’s life a little more, giving Val the attention he had craved so many years ago. But the boy no longer desired his father’s attention and had gotten used to being ignored and being able to do what he wanted. So once his father began putting rules and limits on his life, Val became flustered and confused. He didn’t understand and he soon became known for his temperamental fits, one of which caused all of the horses on the ranch to break free from wherever they were and gallop to his aid. This was the first bit of magic the Rasputin boy had produced and his parents were glad to know that he was showing signs of magic. Val was fairly happy himself, for he’d been thrilled when he’d learned that he would eventually be able to do the things his parents did. Upon learning that he wouldn’t be able to do so for quite some time, Valentino grew quite angry, but his anger on the subject soon subsided and returned back to his controlling father. To Vladimir, being a dragon keeper wasn’t a respectable job and he wanted his son to aim for something else, perhaps something along of the lines of working for the magical government or becoming a teacher like him. But Val didn’t like the idea and stuck firm to his desire to become a dragon keeper. His mother supported him, much to his father’s dismay and, seeing that he’d lost that particular battle, Vladimir turned to Ronnie instead, who was perfectly fine with doing what her father told her to do. Of course, this only angered Val even more.
When Valentino turned eleven, he received his letter to Missahba, which was no surprise, seeing as his father was the principal. There was no real celebration or anything and the family simply accepted it as normal. Val was somewhat excited about the fact he would finally be able to start learning magic and eagerly packed his things. His only worry was that he would be unable to look after Ronnie, but he made his mother promise to keep her out of trouble. Eva laughed and promised, which satisfied the young Valentino. He left home feeling okay and soon entered the doors to the school. Val had been to Missahba before and wasn’t quite as amazed by it as the other students were and, in fact, knew his way around the school better than most. He was calm and collected through the welcoming ceremony, almost to the point of being bored, but he tolerated it, mostly because he knew there would be food soon thereafter. Food was indeed served and through the feast, Val managed to meet some people and make some friends, as well as some enemies. The boy, after all, wasn’t all that amiable to everyone and when he decided he didn’t like someone, he didn’t care if they knew or not. This brutally honest nature earned Val a lot of grief on top of all the abuse he got from being the son of the principal. But Val took it, not wanting to run crying to his father, but because of it became bitter and resentful toward those who mocked him. He often snapped at them and gave them snide remarks, but he bided his time and didn’t take extreme action. Not yet at least. Instead he just focused on his schoolwork, especially Care of Magical Creatures, and tried to learn as much as he possibly could.
Much to the dismay of his father, Val didn’t perform very well in Defense Against the Dark Arts and, noticing this, Vladimir called his son into his office one day. He gave Val a firm reprimand and sent the boy on his way. Val had long since felt the need to butt heads with his father, but he’d contained the urge. This though, was the last straw. From that moment on, Val seemed to try and spite his father in every way possible, starting with doing horribly in Defense Against the Dark Arts. His father was furious with him, but Val didn’t seem to care and just went on his merry way. Of course, Val wasn’t willing to completely ruin his school career and at the last possible moment, brought his grade to passing, proving that he was indeed competent, but simply wasn’t willing to try. With Care of Magical Creatures, on the other hand, Val passed with flying colors. He already knew quite a bit about magical creatures through his mother and came out top of his class. Of course, that wasn’t good enough. It never was. But Val didn’t care and over the summer, spent most of his time riding and working in his mother’s rehabilitation clinic. He also spent a lot of time with Ronnie, catching up on what she’d been doing and telling her about his experience at Missahba. While the two had been exchanging letters and seeing each other on a regular basis, being away from each other had been hard and Val was just glad that he could keep a closer eye on his sister now that she was back. But a few months later, it was time for Val to pack his things again and go back to school for his second year.
Valentino’s second year wasn’t all that different from his first, except for the fact the abuse from his peers seemed to have gotten worse. But Val just toughened up and attended his classes, refusing to tell anyone about what he had to go through. Not even Ronnie or his mother knew, and Val was fine with that. He didn’t physically retaliate and just went on, snarling alongside of his few close friends who were always watching out for him. But the anger was beginning to boil in Val. He’d always been impulsive and aggressive and having to restrain himself was tough. He had to suppress the urge to teach people a lesson and instead found himself seeking sneakier ways to get back at his enemies, mostly in the form of pranks. Val was never a big fan of pranks, but his friends always enjoyed them and Val did like to see his enemies suffer, thus tagged along on numerous occasions. But, of course, they were soon caught and punished, Val, perhaps, more than the rest of the boys, despite the fact he was never fully involved. Vladimir didn’t want his son being involved in such acts and even suggested he seek other friends. The boy wasn’t willing to do so and just took his punishment without complaint.
By his third year though, Val was beginning to grow weary of all the mockery and the abused. He told his friends that he would do something about and, for the first few months, he didn’t. He just went along like he always did, doing a bit better in his classes than he had the previous year. His friends questioned him about it, but Val didn’t seem willing to talk about it and soon the whole ordeal was forgotten. Until one day in February. He was sitting in the mess hall, eating his lunch when a boy in the same grade as him walks over and begins taunting him. The boy wasn’t doing anything more than most people did, but something in Val seemed to snap and he stood up very suddenly. The other boy didn’t seem to catch the hint and continued to mock Val. Then next thing he knew, he was on the floor with the Rasputin boy standing over him. But even when his opponent was on the ground, Val wasn’t prepared to stop and he released his revenge on the boy, punching him and beating the tar out of him. Some students thought that if a teacher hadn’t stopped him, he might have killed the boy. Of course, students are known to stretch the truth somewhat. The boy Val beat up was only in the infirmary for about a week or two. Val, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky. His father was furious with him and truthfully, wasn’t sure what to do with his son. He tried talking to Val, but Val, as usually didn’t want to talk. So, without much other choice, Vladimir suspended Val and sentenced him to anger management.
Valentino did fairly well in anger management and in the end he was deemed fine and after his suspension was done, was allowed to return to school. After that, people seemed to avoid him and the taunting lessened. But there were still people who were willing to try their luck. Val found that after the first fight, he needed to enforce himself. He couldn’t let people think that he would back down now, or else things would start all over again. So Val began getting involved in fights more frequently. He managed to throw in a few quick jabs before getting away so as not to get caught, but he was becoming more and more physical as the year progressed. The boy developed almost a bloodlust and he seemed to feed off of the fighting he did and even enjoyed it to some extent. His friends told him to back off at least a little, but Val wasn’t willing to. He felt the need to show his dominance and his strength and he did it effectively. After a while, no one seemed to want to mess with him and the abuse stopped. But unfortunately, Val’s need for the adrenaline rush that came with fighting didn’t. He ended up blowing up over something quite trivial and instigated a fight. This time he was caught and once again sent to his father’s office and his father had no choice but to expel him.
Of course, that summer wasn’t all that great for Val, for his father was furious with him. The boy hardly had any time to himself, as his father made him attend summer school as well as begin seeing a therapist. The schooling helped Val somewhat, for he did learn a lot of things and caught up on all the things he’d slacked off on during the year, but the therapist didn’t seem to do anything for him and Vladimir was forced to stop his son’s treatment. Of course, the shrink and the schooling wasn’t the worst of it, for one night, Vladimir was lecturing Val and the boy soon grew weary of listening to his father and made a snide comment. The next thing Val knew, he was on the floor and his father was standing over him, frighteningly calm, his hand balled into a fist. “You think fightin’ is fun, do ya?” his father had asked him, his voice just as controlled as his expression. “Well, maybe you won’ think so once ya’ know what it’s like to be on the receivin’ end.” Valentino didn’t think he’d ever felt so much pain in his life. That was the first and last time his father had ever beaten him, but Vladimir had certainly been able to get his point across to the hotheaded youth. After that encounter, Val’s need to instigate fights seemed to wane somewhat, and he behaved himself (for the most part) for the rest of the summer, though his desire to rebel against his father’s word seemed to only increase.
The next year Valentino started school at Ollterton Prep, a small private school in New York. All students were required to take an entrance exam before being admitted, and with the summer schooling he’d been forced to partake in, Val easily passed. But getting into Ollerton was only the beginning of everything, for New York was a lot different than Georgia. Even in the secluded, serene area where the school was located, everything moved much faster than in the South and Val found himself having to adapt to the new atmosphere. At first, it had been a bit difficult, especially since most of the students who went to Ollerton were used to New York, not to mention they weren’t quite used to Southern drawls. Thus, Val became a subject of mockery. Of course, after the abuse he’d had to deal with at Missahba, the boy wasn’t about to tolerate anyone picking on him and quickly set his peers straight. He even managed to do it with as little violence as possible, and after that, no one really gave him a hard time and, in fact, he managed to gain some friends through it. A group of boys seemed to be particularly amused with Valentino and offered him their friendship. At first the boy was wary and wasn’t sure whether this was a trick or not, but he soon accepted and became part of the group that Val later found out was more of a gang. They didn’t necessarily get into fights and go around protecting their territories or whatever, but they certainly caused some trouble, though nothing to ever harm anyone.
But there were still people who didn’t like them, namely other small gangs around the school. None of the gangs ever did anything direct to each other though, for the staff of the Ollerton was well aware of the little gangs and did whatever they could to suppress them. They couldn’t break up the gangs altogether, but they took measure to limit the gang activity and make sure that the students were safe within the grounds. Of course, sometimes the older students were allowed to venture into metropolitan New York and it was difficult to monitor them during that time. They weren’t allowed to use any magic and their wands were kept at school for safety measures most of the time, but the boys still managed to cause some trouble. And one day, near the end of the school year, Val and his friends were framed for doing something they didn’t do. While his friends were able to flee the scene, Val, unfortunately, was caught and was subject to interrogation by the staff. They didn’t seem to believe he didn’t do it, but Val wouldn’t reveal the names of anyone. In the end, he was asked who had been involved and Val just looked at them, smiled and replied, “Rule one? You don’t talk about Fight Club.” And with that comment, the boy was kicked out of his second school.
The next school he attended was on the west coast, for Valentino’s parents thought it would be a good idea if he had yet another change of scenery. This did seem to help and Val soon found himself loving the California weather and the laid back nature of the Zephyr Magical Institute. The Rasputin boy found a nice group of friends and found himself mellowing out a bit. He focused on his schoolwork and tried to make nice with the rest of the populace and was really starting to settle in. He was at the top of his class concerning Care of Magical Creatures and, to his father’s delight, Defense Against the Dark Arts. But the nature of a person couldn’t be completely changed and Val still did have a knack for getting in trouble, but he didn’t get in over his head with anything, and when he got in trouble, it was just for minor things. But even his capacity for getting into trouble faded somewhat as he began to focus more on girls and teenage things like that and even managed to squeeze himself into the dating game. He never found a serious girlfriend during that year, but he definitely started to take notice and be noticed and it was a good feeling. The summer after that was strangely quiet, with no getting yelled at by his father or anything and while Valentino was forced to continue summer school, he didn’t seem to mind all that much. He spent much of his time hanging out with his younger sister and helping his mom around the clinic.
Halfway through his second year at Zephyr, Val was given the opportunities to change schools yet again. But this time, it wasn’t because of anything he did. In fact, he was doing well at Zephyr and was getting along fine with his peers and classmates. But his mother was given the opportunity to travel around Great Britain and Ireland to showcase her skills with animals and his father thought it would be a good idea for Val to attend a European school. Val, of course, had blatantly refused, but Vladimir wasn’t about to let his son pass up the opportunity and put his foot down. Val did whatever he could to get out of it, but his father wouldn’t budge and his mother refused to get involved in their little squabble. So Valentino was soon forced to pack his things from his dorm at Zephyr and return to Georgia where he helped his mom pack up before traveling to Great Britain where Valentino was to continue the rest of his sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
RP Sample:
Cons of being in Great Britain: It wasn’t America. They used weird words. It wasn’t America. They spoke funny. It wasn’t America.
Pros of being in Great Britain: The legal age was eighteen. Girls were intrigued by his Southern drawl than those in America.
Rock ‘n roll, Valentino thought to himself, a somewhat amused smirk on his face as he sat there on a stool in a pub in Edinburgh. It was a strange feeling to be in a pub, for in American people were usually rather anal about minors in bars. In Georgia, Val had been able to go into some bars, but that was because his family knew the owners and well, they knew he was underage and didn’t try to sell him any alcohol. But in Britain, things were much more lax and Val had been able to just stroll into the pub without anyone protesting or asking for ID or anything. It was cool in a way. And it was also good no one had stopped him, because well, Val was having a bit of trouble understanding the Scottish people to say the least and, in turn, they seemed to have some trouble understanding him. Valentino often thought that his mother should have picked a better place to make their initial stop. England probably would have been better, or maybe even Wales. But a Southern drawl versus a Scottish accent was just disaster and Val had, for the most part, decided it was best he keep his mouth shut. Well, unless there were some attractive ladies around, which was the case now.
“So where are you from?” the young Muggle woman asked him, looking at him, clearly intrigued. She was cute, with auburn hair and honeycomb eyes. She must have been older than Val, but only by a few years, he guessed. And he supposed he must have looked older to her, or else she would never be talking to him.
“Ah’m from Georgia,” he replied, the fact that he was from the South clear in the way he spoke. Depending on where he was, the Southern drawl had served as both a gift and a curse to him. But here in Scotland, it seemed to be the former for there was probably very few Southern folk in Great Britain, which made Val stick out. “Mah family lives on a ranch near Cah’ro.”
“Cairo…” the young woman mused. Val seriously doubted she knew where the hell that was, but she was probably one of those kinds of people who didn’t want to admit they didn’t know something. So typical. People should just learn to ask, or else the other party would assume that they actually knew was being spoken about and when a question was asked, that other party would just look ignorant. Val, on the other hand, wasn’t afraid to ask questions about whatever was on his mind and thus prevented himself from looking ignorant. Of course, because of his accent, sometimes he appeared ignorant anyway, which was always annoying to Val. He hated being picked on or made fun of just because he was Southern and wasn’t the kind of person to allow the mockery to continue. But he didn’t mind if someone was pleasantly interested in his drawl and, in fact, found that he could get some positive attention by speaking up in places where Southern drawls weren’t common.
Valentino nodded. “Yep,” he replied, taking a sip of his drink. While he probably could have gotten away with getting something alcoholic, the Rasputin boy had decided against doing anything too bad. He’d only been in Great Britain for a few days after all, not to mention he was supposed to be starting school in a few days.
The woman seemed to contemplate the name of the city for a while before his eyes suddenly drifted toward the clock. She sat up with a start, eyes wide as she looked at the time. “Bloody! I’m sorry, I’ve got to go,” she said, looking at Val apologetically.
“No worries, sweat’eart,” Valentino replied with a grin.
“I’ll call you, I promise,” she said, getting her things together. “I’ll talk to you later, Colton!” And with that she was gone. Once she was out, Val couldn’t help but grin slightly. He wasn’t one usually flat out lie, but he hadn’t really started the conversation with the intention of her asking for his number or anything. All he’d wanted to do was get some information from her about the area and things like that. He hadn’t seen any benefit in giving her a real number or his real name, for that matter, and thought it better off for the both of them if he just lied. It wasn’t as if she’d ever really call him anyway. And it wasn’t as if they’d ever see each other. The least Val could do was give the girl the memory of meeting a handsome Southern boy with a cool name.
