Warding Off Cabin Fever [02.21.09 ISO:Romeo]
Everybody gets it. That horrible tingling feeling, the twitchiness of the limbs, the franticness, where you just have to get up and run around, to shout at the top of your lungs, to do something, anything, to stave off the drudgery of being cooped up in the castle all winter. Winter was a horrible season in Great Britain. It wasn't as if they had beautiful weather anytime, even in the summer, but winter was just terrible. Monotonous and rainy and dreary. It was enough to drive anyone mad.
Jade was on the verge of cracking. She had taken to sitting in the common room, shredding paper and tossing it into the fireplace with a glazed look upon her face. She had taken to chewing on the tips of quills until they were mangled beyond repair. She had taken to drumming manically on tables until her Housemates descended on her in a murderous rage. It was a dangerous time. She might have exploded any day now, if it weren't for the glorious arrival of Hogsmeade Weekend. The "X"s she slashed on her calendar had gotten more and more frantic as she counted down the days, but finally it had arrived, and Jade had found salvation.
In a moment that might have been record breaking, Jade had leapt out of bed before her alarm even went off. Without any prodding, she had dressed quickly and efficiently, eaten breakfast at breakneck speed, and been among the first to line up at the castle doors. She had been like a child as they let her leave, racing down the path with sheer abandon, arms thrown wide in joy, laughing like a maniac. Free! She was finally free!
She had warranted odd stares as she dashed through the town, laughing, hugging strangers in her delirium, causing many people to veer away from her in fear. Jade didn't care. She was going mad inside that castle. She was like a terrier that had been locked in a crate all day and finally let out to run. It was a while before she wore herself out. Panting like a dog, she flung herself down on a bench that lined the main road through Hogsmeade, her face flushed and beaded with sweat.
"Ain't life grand.."
