Who is gonna tell the real, whole story...
I want to hear the full story about what happened when you all went after Fay for Benik's epic. I imagine there will be some comedy involved. I imagine you all will have different perspectives. I want the details... I am curious and in need of a good laugh. :)

Heh, I'll give you the whiny, bitchy, frail, enchanter viewpoint. :p

I wasn't even going to play last night, but was bored, so I defaulted the evening to EQ (again). :(

Checked in with the guild, before going to Seb. for exp and pp. Benik said he needed help with his epic. I know he's almost done, and he's a friend IRL, (and I wasn't doing anything else... haha) so I said "count me in".

Original plan was to take 30 min. to assemble, then trigger the spawn at 6pm. Took forever to get the clerics there, and by the time we got everyone buffed, it was 8pm before the spawn was triggered.

All the casters had bound on the beach, with most of us not knowing exactly where Fay would spawn. If I had known we were binding at the spawn point, I wouldn't have bound there.

The casters were hiding in the tunnel when Fay was triggered. I was resisting most of the Dragon Fear spells, which was cool. But I think I was getting charmed, because I kept losing control of myself.

It didn't sound like the fight was going very well, but the casters were suppossed to be out of melee range until Fay was at 50% health.

I kept getting hit for about 147. My pet engaged, and I backed up a bit in the tunnel. I think by now, everyone in my group had died at least twice.

I was asking what was going on, since no one was really updating us. I think they were all busy trying to live. Someone mentioned that the fight wasn't going well. I asked if casters should camp. Someone said yes, and that was good enough for me.

I disbanded, and did /sit /camp. Every five seconds I shouted "Casters camp now!" since no one else was covering it. Then I logged my monk on and was getting updates from Raganok.

When I logged back in, only 3 of us were in the zone, and everyone we were all working on an exit strategy. I swam to the firepots, bound there, and camped.

Next time I can gate back when the raid starts. I've always wanted to be bound at the firepots anyway. :p

Re: Who is gonna tell the real, whole story...
simple.... we underestimated the fish, not enough clerics... (2, i found that out after, and the third had some problems on the boat.) and the AE kicked ass.. 500pt fire i think. and i had resist around 125. (time to invest in more resist gear it seems). we got the prick down to about half.. but by that time the tanks were gone and ole fish breath was running around our backfield killing casters left and right. i had 6 deaths in the death loop.. i got to the outer ring once and still got summoned when i tried to camp so i /q out. after 6 deaths. im not sure what the record was. I know itlain had like 11 bodies.

id like to thank everyone for keeping your composure even with that massive defeat. next time i go back.... it will be in force. I was still happy to go and meet the bastage that i eventually have to kill for my epic. even if it was a massive defeat. but in my opinion the AE did us in. and binding so close.... i guess i really didnt think about it since i wanted to be close since i was porting people in. and the result was.... death loop.... and no, death loop is not an amusement park ride :) its something to be avoided..... call me sick or whatever i still had fun.... i lost nothing but time thanks to surus and his rezes.

Re: Who is gonna tell the real, whole story...
I think we needed more everyone. More clerics, more healers, more melees, more nukers... mORE!

I waited for the melee to get aggro before I tried slowing. But immediately we were being hit with his aoe nukes. I was chloroblasting continuously, as were zepphia and hiemer. All of our hp's were going down every few seconds, by at least 1-2 bubbs, so it was only time before we all went down. The dmg done to the fish was too slow. We lasted a while, but the damned fish outlasted us.

I feel for all those caught in the death loop. I didn't bind there because I thought we'd kill it. I figured I'd die, but I just thought I'd be one of the half that did, and rezzes would be fast. I've been caught in several death loops. The first time it happened I cried (like a tear, not like bawling!). I didn't know about /q ing out, so I was so confused as to how to escape. So I'm sorry for those that died multiple times.

And it was pretty bad... when i swam up the tunnel, to our location after the GM got rid of faydedar, I gasped. The guides said it was worse than anything they've seen, but I had no idea how bad it was. Benik and DArion's bodies were EVERYWHERE. Itlains' was eVERYWHERE. I followed the corpses, darion's corpse was next to benik's every corpse, several near the water, more on land, more on the ramp-- their bodies were in pairs. I imagined maybe darion following benik trying to escape .... it broke my heart... and i see one more corpse far away... a single one of darion on the bridge far up leading to the huts.

When I surveyed the melee deaths, I saw there were only a handful of melees. Like maybe 5 or 6? Anyway, I'll go back. I'll go back every time one of you needs him. And we'll be a LOT more prepared.

Re: Who is gonna tell the real, whole story...
Two major things went wrong with this raid;

1) As a guild, our resists are too low. Everyone should strive to have 100 in all their resists, before being buffed. This is not as hard as it sounds. Group in Seb. win /rands on diamonds and blue diamonds. Buy a froglok crown for 1k.

2) Binding at the site of the fight was a mistake. I don't think anyone could have foreseen this. :( Will we know better next time? For this mob yes. But we could just have easily not boud there, and almost killed him, and wished we were there so we could do the suicide-full mana-nuke trick. Binding will always be situational. We'll have to do our homework.

Re: Who is gonna tell the real, whole story...
Man, that sounds bad. But the retelling of the story had me rolling on the floor. "Death loop is not an amusement park ride" -- lol...... Cikki so clearly wanting to zerg the fish.....I can just picture cikki in a death loop sitting at her computer with "one tear" glistening on her cheek :) .....And ouzes funny quote in that other faydedar thread.....I hope someone has screenshots because this infamous battle deserves its own picture gallery!

All joking aside, some serious lessons learned. Anyone want to write up a guide or list of some of the best resist gear we should start stockpiling? My resists suck ass plain and simple but I definitely want to get better resist gear.

Re: Who is gonna tell the real, whole story...
Hmmm.

I thought I posted some resist info in this threat. Here it is again, for you sequential folks.

Ear (x2): - Electrum Blue Diamond Earring, 15 Mana / 6 Fire / 11 Disease / 6 Cold / 11 Poison / 4 Magic.

Neck: - Gold Blue Diamond Necklace, 20 Mana /11 Fire /6 Disease /11 Cold /6 Poison / 4 Magic.

Head: - Crown of the Froglok Kings, 20 Fire / 20 Cold.

Face: - Gold Diamond Mask, 10 Fire / 5 Disease /10 Cold /5 Poison /3 Magic.

Wrists (x2): - Velium Blue Diamond Bracelets, 30 Mana /9 Fire /9 Disease /11 Cold /9 Poison / 9 Magic.

Fingers (x2): - Velium Diamond Rings, 8 All saves.

Totals:
-------
Fire: +89
Disease: +59
Cold: +89
Poison: +59
Magic: +32

As you can see, that's a good start for everyone. All those items are ALL/ALL.

Each class is different, but your native resists alone should put Fire and Cold over 100.

That leaves your entire inventory; arms, shoulders, chest, legs, belt, shoes, primary, secondary, and range, and ammo to fill in the gaps. Again, each class is different, but with some work, you can get all your resists over 100. Then when you're buffed, your resists actually mean something. :)

Re: Who is gonna tell the real, whole story...
Are there variants on the neck, ear, and wrist stuff you listed that give better bonuses for melee. Are there variations that give hps or AC instead of mana?

Thanks for the list Modak.

Re: Who is gonna tell the real, whole story...
Those are straight up the "best" resist gear items for each slot.

Now, of course, "best" can mean a lot of things. They're all readily available. You'll need a bunch of blue diamonds and diamonds, but those drop often enough that you can farm your own, get lucky with /rand in an exp group in Seb. or PoG, or even buy them outright. (300pp for a diamond, 700pp for a blue diamond are current rates.) The froglok crown will set you back about 1k.

You might be able to farm individual items, based on your class, but I really doubt it. You'd have to do some research at everquest.allakhazam.com/ (Allakhazam's Realm). I'm not sure which stats are important to you, DEX, HP, AC, etc. :p

Most of those items are also jewelcraft tradeskill items. I don't have much say as to how the items come out. Most jewelry recipies are only two items. The gem, and the metal. The gem determines the attributes; amber is a STR gem, for example. The metal determines the type of item; silver = ring, gold = earring, etc. As you go up in metal, you generally have better stats as well. A vellium ring will be better than a silver ring.

One last thing to note. Vellium combines are not trivial at the current jewelry skillcap of 250. :( So I can make electrum blue diamond earrings all day long, but I can fail every try at a vellium blue diamond bracer; and that can hurt. Ask poor Benik. :(

Yay resists!
The resist gear list that you have is the "general" resist gear list. It's perfect for life on a red server, where resists are the only thing between you and instant wizardly death. :)

You might want to think about getting gear that isn't as high on general resists and focus on specific resists. Magic resist is important in every fight and that list just doesn't have it. (I usually throw an Earring of Essence on in place of an EBD). In most big fights where resists are critical, you have to worry about 2 resists, no more. Magic is ALWAYS one of them. Big enough MR and you don't have to run away from the monster like a little girl every six seconds. Cold is second , Fire is third, Disease and Poison are tied for fourth.

I've not fought anything big on Quellios, but I died to plenty of big nasties (bleh, stupid old slow aggro) on TZ. :)

GM says "I think you managed to triple your guilds roster number in corpses here!!"

-- Ask me!! I just might -- Benik 55 Druid, Raganok 53 Rouge, Healinghandz 53 Cleric -- all 3 accounts PoP enabled
