You just can't trust anyone anymore...
My boyfriend's father was in California on a business trip all last week, and he went into a bar to shoot some pool for fun on Thursday night.
While there, two men drugged him, followed him back to his hotel, and robbed him of his cash, credit cards, bank cards, driver's license, Retired Military ID card, and Social Security card.
I don't know what sort of drug they slipped into his drink, but it seemed he was still intoxicated when he got back to New Jersey on Friday. Slurred speech, and his complexion was very pale.
He's got type 2 diabetes as well, and is on medication for treatment of Hepatitis B - the stuff they slipped him could very well have killed him or landed him in the hospital. He seemed to be doing better by Sunday. I stayed over all weekend just to make sure that he was okay.
In trying to file a police report, he called the local Army base, who told him to call Anaheim, who told him to call the local township police, who told him that he had to call the Army base... he hadn't filed a report while in California because by the time he woke up in the morning, it was time to catch his plane back home.
He was very upset especially about losing the military ID, he was going on about if someone was able to get onto a military base and set off a bomb, he wouldn't be able to live with himself. He was also very upset that neither the military or police were willing to help him - he's a bit of a "Mom, God, and apple pie" kind of guy - and the bureaucratic @#%$ he had to go through to finally get the police report taken at the local Army base disappointed him to no end.
It's just as well we live completely on the other side of the nation, otherwise I'd be a bit more worried that these lowlife excuses for homo sapiens had his address.
Also, my boyfriend's dad said that we should start saving up some money because if he has to go on a trip there again, and sees those two guys - we're going to need to bail him out.

I've read a bit about similar attacks. Chances are its Rohypnol.

Eye drops works like that as well. Something about some eye drop brands that excelerate the drunk faster than normal.

I heard tell of an old man in Texas who was angry about a band of teenagers that were robbing and then killing elderly people in his city. So he grabbed his cane and went for a train ride. A group of teenagers started to follow him and he led them into a dark alley. A bit later there was an anonymous call to the authorities about a group of teenagers who had been attacked and seriously injured. Noone paid attention to the little old man hobbling away from a pay phone on his cane.
As it turns out, even a little white-haired elderly man with a cane can be a 10th Degree blackbelt and ex-military assassin.

It is used as a date rape drug because of its ability to produce euphoric and hallucinatory states. GHB can cause serious side effects including drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, visual disturbances, unconsciousness, seizures, severe respiratory depression and coma.
Even marginally increased doses of GHB have been reported to result in severe adverse effects. These include slowed heart beat, decreased respiratory effort, unconsciousness, seizure-like activity, and coma. Such effects can appear within fifteen minutes of oral ingestion of the drug, and acute symptoms appear to decrease after three to four hours. As with most substances, health risks increase sharply when GHB is mixed with other drugs and/or alcohol.
Side Effects:Rophynol has been prescribed as an effective sleeping pill and is also used as a sedative and preanesthetic medication in some countries. The effects of flunitrazepam are fairly long-acting. When combined with alcohol or other drugs, Rophynol can impair judgment and motor skills and cause memory loss or blackouts (lasting 8 to 24 hours after ingestion). Loss of inhibition can also occur, with or without alcohol.
A person under the influence of Rohypnol can appear to be drunk, display no coordination, blood-shot eyes and slurred speech. Sedation can occur as soon as 20 minutes after ingestion. The drug's effects will peak within 2 hours and may persist for up to 8 hours or more, depending on the dosage. Other adverse effects associated with flunitrazepam include visual disturbances, drowsiness, confusion, decreased blood pressure, memory impairment, gastrointestinal disturbances and urinary retention. When mixed with alcohol, Rohypnol may cause respiratory depression, aspiration or even death. Although classified as a depressant, Rohypnol can rarely induce excitability or aggressive behavior.
No mention of alcohol breath unless he drank a lot after he was drugged. The drug will memory wipe and you may be concious for sometime before going down for the count. That's why rapists prefer this drug, victims are somewhat coherent during the act yet remember nothing. Conceivably your boyfriends father could have given out passwords and such.
Scary stuff anyway... more tidbits here. Hopefully karma comes around for ya.

Yeah, that pretty much describes how he was acting Friday. My friend asked me if 'dad' was drunk on Friday, and I had to tell him the story of what happened Thursday. We were trying to get dad's mind off of the whole incident so we didn't bring it up while we were there. Of course, first impressions and all made it look bad.
The alcohol breath smell might have been due to his diabetes, if I recall correctly from when I was a child with my diabetic uncle.

After he got back seemingly still suffering effects, did he go to a hospital, doctor, or any medical professional to get checked out and tested? I would think someone who's sure they've been drugged by strangers (who also has pre-existing medical problems that might cause complications) might get themselves checked out, despite not wanting to report the attack when it did happen.
By the way.. how'd he make his flight with no id?

He still had his military CAT card or one of those damn military acronyms that I have NO idea what they mean - they left him that for some reason... was able to get on the plane with that.
He's a stubborn summanabitz and didn't go to the doctor until Monday when he had an already scheduled doctor's appointment, even though I told him to go earlier (I found out about this on Friday night, close to 24 hours after the incident - couldn't yell at him before that)

I'm so sorry dragon, thats horrible. Someone from my server came to memphis to visit a friend in the hospital here, only to be mugged and nearly killed in the hospital parking lot. Some people just really suck.

kindof sad that when your kids hit what... 14ish or so you have to give them training in how to drink for fear that they will be assaulted
no cans, glasses, mugs, etc..
only bottles... opened by yourself or a bartender... always held and with a thumb over the opening when not actively drinking.

Just had that same thought yesterday Samita as I held my 2 month old little girl. @#$%ing pathetic I'll have to talk condoms and date rape to a girl when she just starts noticing boys.
I think I'm going to have to start weilding Fiae's 2x4 of doom.
