another airport security thread
As i sit here in the airport bar, my load graciously lightened one frame wrench and one pair 1" scissors by a now-well-paid-formerly-underpaid lemming in the Atlanta screening area, i am reminded of the goals of terroism.

1) disrupt the lifestyle of your enemy
2) put fear into the hearts of those who should have none
3) take from them that most precious, their sense of safety of self and loved ones in everyday life

And of course, this is because they have deep-seated unrest within themselves, and want all of the enemy to know that. Sort of a "welcome to my world" thing, if you will. Fortunately, i'm not afraid. Unfortunately, everybody else seems to be.

For what it's worth, i think they've succeeded magnificiently, if the reactionary installations of paranoia and invasiveness in and near our airports are attributed to their actions. No one is any safer, we are only inconvenienced. No one has less fear, we all have more. No one has been better protected, we are only better watched.

Benjamin Franklin is credited with saying, "Those who seek freedom by giving up their security shall have neither." Anyone who wants to slam me for saying what i am should remember that.

America, "your enemy is not surrounding your country, your enemy is leading your country". And he owes me a damned frame wrench. I've got more scissors.

Re: another airport security thread
They all are terrible and useless. Before 9/11 I did not know I left my new swiss army knife in my carry on, I went through sweden security, through english security, finally I was picked out as the random hand check by this lone pale older guy. He finds the knife, calls in reinforcements to show the prize the screeners did not catch. After measuring the knife, He Had a hard time folding the knife back in. So he drops the knife and tries to grab it with his open hand. Well the blade sliced his hand to the bone. So the bleeder is sitting down pale and unresponsive as the shock troops come flying down the hall. Needless to say I was placed up against the wall. I forget exactly what I said, but in a one african language it was an insult to the largest stormtrooper, who went at me. Fortunately the others were pulling the unfriendly off of me. After delaying the plane, They let me go and gave the knife to the pilot to return to me in ireland.

Beside them not catching me flying on other planes that day, going through multiple screeners in different countries, they gave me back the knife. That Knife has a locking blade which is not legal in England.
